She could have said any number of things and certainly did not have to make it apparent to her family right off the rip. Maybe a "let's give this a shot. If it turns out we are compatible, there's a test you'll have to do but I picked you because I like you and have confidence you can pass it." Completely normal, and shows she has empathy. As it is, she seems like some sociopath with no care for what he wants, essentially Stockholming him into liking her. But Manami is quite devious, only a person who truly understands you can play you like this. Manami knew what she wanted and took her shot in a game where she will always win.
Well, even though that IS technically true, the fact remains that Minami knew what had happened to Keiko, and since the both of them had mutual enemies in Kuroka and Koya, then it became personal to Minami, not just because of the ex-best friend, and the ex-girlfriend, of Keiko, and what they had done to him together, but also for the fact that those two people were also HER friends as well, and that those two people were jealous of herself and Keiko for their positions in the school, as well as their gifts in their lives.
Manami is one scary girl. She’s definitely someone who is very manipulative and calculating. In fact Popular girls in anime are very scary. She planned everything from the beginning and Kaito was the perfect one tool for her plan to succeed but it was nice that she helped Kaito get revenge on his ex Kuroka and his so called best friend Koya. Serves those two right and they deserve to be shunned by by the whole school. Manami is quite possessive but she isn’t crazy and is actually a nice person and it’s great to know that she liked Kaito and Kaito also liked her. But Manami really has a Kaito wrapped around her finger. She has absolute power being the CEO’s daughter of a very powerful conglomerate and at school everyone will bend to her will. She’s the type of person you cannot deceive not trick. She will see through you and before you realize she’s already 5 steps ahead of you. Great story.
In some ways it's sad the way she manipulated him, but, at the same time, understandable. Kuroka beat her to the punch initially, so, when she cheated with Koya, Manami made damn sure she wasn't going to lose twice. I don't know about absolute power though. That test was definitely designed to ensure that whomever she married would have the kind of steel trap mind that with training would be capable of running the family business someday. That's planning ahead!

They just have to be way sneakier about it. We had a guy in my class whose dad was rich. Owned a big trucking company with terminals all over the southern U.S.. Son got a girl pregnant, daddy was going to pay her off to keep quiet about it. No way Jose! There were several of us who didn't like the arrogant prick so we made damn sure to spread the word around town. This was a small town of about 1000 people right in the heart of what's known as the "bible belt". Eight churches in a small town. Daddy ended up making his son marry the girl rather than have the family name smeared. Story Idea: An adult woman (FMC) receives a wedding invitation from her childhood friend and her first love(MMC) who she hasn’t heard from since high school. The reason why they cut contact was that she was a tsundere that teased yet loved him, but he finally had enough and stopped talking to her. She tried to talk to him but he always ignored her like she didn’t exist. He then left to a university far from her and now she learns that he’s getting married. After the wedding, she goes home heartbroken that because of her attitude she lost her first love. When she falls asleep she wakes up the next day, back in her high school days, before he cut contact with her. Taking an advantage of this event she vows to change her attitude to become a better person and to not lose her first love again.
Add a time machine being invented by the FMC, and an a b u s i v e spouse to the FMC, which necessitates the FMC to get a job as a teacher or something like that to influence her younger self away from her tsundere ways, and it would be a far better story, and it could be called "The One That Got Away".
Oh and by the way, after being shunned by everyone, Kuroka and Koya broke up and unbelievably Kuroka tries to get back together with Kaito but he refuses and rejected her but she wouldn't back down until Manami shows up and threatened her to stay away from Kaito with a menacing look and Manami accidentally revealed that she and Kaito were actually engaged which shocks Kuroka and Koya including everyone. Kuroka runs away in shame, fear and embarrassed and Koya tries to sabotage their relationship by trying to steal Manami too but Manami saw through his eyes and gave him a menacing glare saying don't get involved with us ever again or you'll get regret which caused Koya to run away in fear. While everyone congratulate them for their engagement so she doesn't have to worry about get her reputation ruined.
No, this is what should happen instead. Minami asks Kuroka and Koya some typically expected questions, such as, "Why did you hurt Keiko, Kuroka? Why did you hurt Keiko, Koya? Why did you two conspire to hurt him together? Why did you cheat on him, Kuroka? Why did you two hurt me? Was Keiko not good enough for you, Kuroka? What did Keiko do to hurt either one of you? What did I do to hurt either one of you"? Naturally, the two of them would try to justify their behavior and arrogantly explain their plan, but it would be at this point that Minami would ask one innocent sounding question, as this sort of thing would have happened after the summer break, and she would ask, "Koya and Kuroka, what did you two do for your summer break "? The two of them would tell her, albeit a bit rudely, and say something like, "What is it to you", and/or something else that is like, "Not that it is really any of your business", and then Minami would ask, "Do you two want to know what myself and Keiko did over our summer break"? The two of them would naturally ask what they did, and then Minami would say, "Well, I went on my honeymoon with my husband...Keiko. Yeah, that is right, I am not confessing my love to Keiko, I am not dating Keiko, I am not engaged to Keiko, I am actually now his legally wedded WIFE, and, yes, I actually have our marriage certificates in my possession, and you two already know the family that I come from, so if you, Kuroka, as well as you, Koya ever try to be in our lives in any way, shape, and/or form, then I will not hesitate to take swift and decisive legal action against you two, that is, if the rest of the class, the rest of this school, and the rest of the planet, do not settle the score with you two first, because I know who you two really are behind your masks, as well as all of the shady, sketchy, immoral, unethical, unfair, unjust, evil, vile, sleazy, and very much illegal things that you two think that you are both hiding from everyone, and so does Keiko, so please never be around us ever again, as you two are dead to us now, or else I will expose the full extent of these things to your families, everyone that is in this school, students and staff alike, everyone that is in this city, in this country, and on this planet, so you two will literally be hated, rejected, and hunted down by everyone in your lives, so thanks and good bye". I honestly kind of feel like Minami felt in the story. I kind of feel like Minami is like an A-list superheroic figure that is an awesome ally for the side of good, but, if she ever went rogue and went for the side of evil, that she would be like literally a cosmos ending level threat. She wanted Kuroka and Koya to suffer more, and, considering what the two of them did to Keiko, well, they honestly deserve to get more to happen to them in their lives. Hopefully, Keiko is just making Minami THINK that he is being nice to those two, but that he is just letting them, and Minami be in a state like the calm before the storm, and then he would strike those two when they least expect it in their lives.
Plot Twist: Everything that happened with Kuroka cheating on the MC was all manipulated from behind the scenes by Manami, with her convincing Kouya to make a move on Kuroka and steal her away from the MC, as Kouya at the time was still having second thoughts of doing so since he still thought of the MC as his best friend, even though he still liked Kuroka even after she started dating the MC. Kouya was then motivated to.make his move on Kuroka with Manami supporting her, all the while having no idea that she would double cross him later on by showing the footage of what he and Kuroka did to the MC to the entire school, leaving both Kouya and Kuroka shunned by their schoolmates until they both couldn't take it anymore and quit school. Both of them broke up soon after and ended up becoming shut-ins for the rest of their lives.
Kaito has got a good woman in his corner, he had it bad with his ex girlfriend Kuroka leaving him for his so called best friend Koya and she cheated on him with Koya, but thankfully he has Manami on his side even married him after he passed the exams her grandfather made him go through and she even helped him get revenge on Kuroka and Koya for Kaito he has a good one in his corner even though it is a little scary she is that smart and clever on how easily she had them all dancing in the palm of her hand so Kaito better not upset her or hurt her lol but nice story.
Hot damn, as an avid lover of the color green, that has got to be the sexiest anime school uniform I have ever seen in my entire life! Also, notice how fitting it is that the uniform colors are green, and green is the color of envy, or the "desire to have a possession, or other desirable attribute belonging to (someone else)." It does not count as a trophy, since she is said to have liked him for a while, but upon seeing him in a relationship she gave up at least temporarily, surely she somehow found out from his position that they were cheating on her precious and beloved kaito beginning to move, reaching the point of knowing a place where they used to meet, so she summoned him to that place at the usual time they saw each other to reveal the betrayal, eliminating his "rival" and taking advantage of that moment to have him just for her, in fact he did it. The arranged marriage was surely a lie xD (And his grandfather reinforces it with that proof and the overprotective attitude he takes) as they say everything was dancing in the palm of his hand.

Extened ending: Sadly the marriage wasn't the only thing Manami manipulated him into doing, after a couple years of marriage Kaito was made to do a bunch of things without his say. Tired of feeling like a puppet he divorced Manami. And to avoid her mamipulating him into not doing it, he just left divorce papers on the table with his name signed on them and he left. He moved to the country side where he found a job as a teacher and a guidance counselor helping boys avoid making the mistakes he made, he stayed single. Alternate ending (since I didn't like this one): After realizing Manami basically played him like a puppet, he was obviously mad at her for manipulating him, instead of just talking to him like a normal person, and he grew distant from her. He avoided her at school and at home, whenever she tried talking to him, he just ignored her. One night she tried being forceful and held him against the bed. But when he pushed her off, she started crying and apologizing and he said "Even if you're telling the truth, I don't believe anything you say anymore". The two grew more distant and eventually Manami requested a divorce. Her last words to him were a simple "I'm sorry". They didn't interact anymore after that, she lived her life with the guilt of her actions, and both stayed single

I would react differently, but it would basically boil down to him losing his company, and his granddaughter, to myself, and the cops never being able to find the body, or any evidence of a crime that was being committed because it would be done in a way where the evidence would literally be impossible to be recovered.
I like the story but feel it would be better if he got upset at being manipulated twice and she had to be honest about her feelings. Forced relationships never last. Also, try swapping the roles and see if the story hits the same.
Yeah.... I was getting annoyed at how much the grandfather was threatening him, then they pulled a shotgun wedding and I NOPED right out. Getting really fed up with MC's who turn into doormats and parents who strong arm their children into marriage, I get it's a cultural difference thing, but it skeevs me out so much that MCs allow people that much control over their life.
Actually, the shotgun wedding was not a bad idea, rather, it was Minami's grandpa that had manipulated Keiko into it that was a bad idea. I have an alternative take on that part of the story that reflects my version of the shotgun wedding.

While everyone congratulate them for their engagement so she doesn't have to worry about get her reputation ruined.
No, this is what should happen instead. Minami asks Kuroka and Koya some typically expected questions, such as, "Why did you hurt Keiko, Kuroka? Why did you hurt Keiko, Koya? Why did you two conspire to hurt him together? Why did you cheat on him, Kuroka? Why did you two hurt me? Was Keiko not good enough for you, Kuroka? What did Keiko do to hurt either one of you? What did I do to hurt either one of you"? Naturally, the two of them would try to justify their behavior and arrogantly explain their plan, but it would be at this point that Minami would ask one innocent sounding question, as this sort of thing would have happened after the summer break, and she would ask, "Koya and Kuroka, what did you two do for your summer break "? I honestly kind of feel like Minami felt in the story. I kind of feel like Minami is like an A-list superheroic figure that is an awesome ally for the side of good, but, if she ever went rogue and went for the side of evil, that she would be like literally a cosmos ending level threat. She wanted Kuroka and Koya to suffer more, and, considering what the two of them did to Keiko, well, they honestly deserve to get more to happen to them in their lives. Hopefully, Keiko is just making Minami THINK that he is being nice to those two, but that he is just letting them, and Minami be in a state like the calm before the storm, and then he would strike those two when they least expect it in their lives.

Everything that happened with Kuroka cheating on the MC was all manipulated from behind the scenes by Manami, with her convincing Kouya to make a move on Kuroka and steal her away from the MC, as Kouya at the time was still having second thoughts of doing so since he still thought of the MC as his best friend, even though he still liked Kuroka even after she started dating the MC. Kouya was then motivated to.make his move on Kuroka with Manami supporting her, all the while having no idea that she would double cross him later on by showing the footage of what he and Kuroka did to the MC to the entire school, leaving both Kouya and Kuroka shunned by their schoolmates until they both couldn't take it anymore and quit school. Both of them broke up soon after and ended up becoming shut-ins for the rest of their lives.

Extened ending: Sadly the marriage wasn't the only thing Manami manipulated him into doing, after a couple years of marriage Kaito was made to do a bunch of things without his say. Tired of feeling like a puppet he divorced Manami. And to avoid her mamipulating him into not doing it, he just left divorce papers on the table with his name signed on them and he left. He moved to the country side where he found a job as a teacher and a guidance counselor helping boys avoid making the mistakes he made, he stayed single.
Alternate ending (since I didn't like this one): After realizing Manami basically played him like a puppet, he was obviously mad at her for manipulating him, instead of just talking to him like a normal person, and he grew distant from her. He avoided her at school and at home, whenever she tried talking to him, he just ignored her. One night she tried being forceful and held him against the bed. But when he pushed her off, she started crying and apologizing and he said "Even if you're telling the truth, I don't believe anything you say anymore". The two grew more distant and eventually Manami requested a divorce. Her last words to him were a simple "I'm sorry". They didn't interact anymore after that, she lived her life with the guilt of her actions, and both stayed single

I like the story but feel it would be better if he got upset at being manipulated twice and she had to be honest about her feelings. Forced relationships never last. Also, try swapping the roles and see if the story hits the same.
Yeah.... I was getting annoyed at how much the grandfather was threatening him, then they pulled a shotgun wedding and I NOPED right out. Getting really fed up with MC's who turn into doormats and parents who strong arm their children into marriage, I get it's a cultural difference thing, but it skeevs me out so much that MCs allow people that much control over their life.
Actually, the shotgun wedding was not a bad idea, rather, it was Minami's grandpa that had manipulated Keiko into it that was a bad idea. I have an alternative take on that part of the story that reflects my version of the shotgun wedding.
