Griffin is a city in and the county seat of Spalding County, Georgia.[4] It is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. As of the 2020 census, the city had a population of 23,478.
Griffin was founded in 1840 and named for landowner Col. Lewis Lawrence Griffin.[5]
Griffin Technical College was located in Griffin from 1963 and a branch of Southern Crescent Technical College is in Griffin. The Griffin Synodical Female College was established by Presbyterians but closed.[6] The University of Georgia maintains a branch campus in Griffin.[7]

You should have taken a drive down East College St. or South 6th St./Maple Dr. A lot of nice older homes in that part of the city. Griffin is an old mill town with a lot of old textile factories, some of which you saw on East Broad St. When all the textile manufacturing went overseas years ago, it hit Griffin (and many other southern towns) hard. They've been trying to come back, but it's been tough. I lived there in the 90s and early 2000s, and lived around south metro Atlanta since the 70s.

My hometown. I visit occasionally but too many people now and it's changed alot.
My family lives out by the Flint River on West McIntosh. They have great property but don't even know why people still move there. I think the small town appeal for people trying to find housing in ATL is what draws them in but Spalding Co. schools are terrible. Fayette Co. schools are better.
