Is that kind of orogenic belt after failed rift basin?

    Nice experiment 👍👌

Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it. I just filmed a couple of new extensional experiments today.

Interesting experimental model sir. Just wondering how if the reactivation force is caused by simple shear force from two strike slip on the edge of the tools, which has parallel sigma vector with the extensional. have you once run the experiment with such variables?

I mean parallel extension sigma vector (sigma 3) of the extensional fault system

Yes, compression is perfectly parallel to extension, so extensional sigma 3 and compressional sigma 1 would be parallel. The stress field is fairly uniform throughout the model; there is some drag against the sidewalls, but the structural style you see is generally what is present in the very core of the model (I have just gelled and dissected it!). The left side of the model utilizes an abrasive paper base to firmly couple overlying section to the moving base plate; the goal of this was to direct accommodation of displacement into the overlying microbead layers. The abrasive paper and base plate run 90 degrees to the sidewalls, so no obliquity is present other than the very minor amount that occurs near the sidewalls due to drag friction. I have not run an experiment where a transtensional setup (releasing bend) is reversed into a transpressional (restraining bend) condition. I certainly plan to try this, and I am not sure what degree of inversion or thrust reactivation would occur. I think there are many possibilities for setting up an inversion experiment where the inverted basin was developed under oblique tension, and I might give it a try once I get a few more decollement/duplex videos processed. Thanks for watching!!

Exxon modeling and earth expansion/contraction... repeated over long term...
