I misunderstood it is not child benefit that is capped but child tax credits so child benefit is still paid for all children. I think Labour could have said it would like to remove the cap as the economy improves.

I don't mind telling the truth , I'm supposed to be on health benefits but I don't get a penny , I've ten benign tumours in my neck, I get depression that's from old head injuries ,I've got arthritis working with a broken leg, and a deaf ear . I live off my health service pension it's less than benefits ,I get housing , now I've got to send universal credit 4 months bank statements , 3 photo shots of my passport , they had all this when I claimed my pension. But the thing is ,it's rape of a person's fabric ,personal details , I'm 64 not 21 I'm not going to train for the Olympics, but the pressure ,intimidation is off the scale , your treated like a none human ,like scum . I'm close to blowing up big time , I'm barking , we are losing our rites ,dignity ,the rite to exist . Why should we be depressed at 64 , why should we be treated like animals .
Those MPs stood on a manifesto that said Labour would keep the child benefit cap. Labour have their own child poverty strategy that will help with child poverty.

As a temporary measure, It would work for new parents starting with their first child onwards. But they can’t just cut the benefits of those who already have an amount of children over that limit because they’ve already been consciously paying them, and as you say Dave, it would be taking the food out of children’s mouths, clothes off their backs, the energy bills being even harder to pay with their quality of life suffering it would be inhumane and therefore a breach of a basic human right.
@@DonkeyDave269. Agreed. And if there was, say, a three to 5 year period before that next child then it gives the parents time to prepare. Means testing would be good for those who are not on benefits but I think it should extend to everyone. That way there’s less pressure on the system within that five year period. Their is a balanced way to do this.
Looks like I owe Dodgy Dave an apology; it’s not Child Benefit that was capped it was the child element of Universal Credit so it would be around £70 a bairn (I think) 🙂

Free school meals 365 days a year for all kids. Family allowance was 8 shillings a week for the 2nd child when i was a kid, when my older brother left school there was nothing. I never went hungry but life for my mother was hard. I agree that people shouldn't sit at home popping sprogs as a career as much as i don't think people should have to sell goods bought in good times should have to be sold,for peanuts, when times are hard . We've all heard about they've all got massive colour tellys and so on. 2 sides to every story.

I misunderstood it is not child benefit that is capped but child tax credits so child benefit is still paid for all children. I think Labour could have said it would like to remove the cap as the economy improves.

I don't mind telling the truth , I'm supposed to be on health benefits but I don't get a penny , I've ten benign tumours in my neck, I get depression that's from old head injuries ,I've got arthritis working with a broken leg, and a deaf ear .
I live off my health service pension it's less than benefits ,I get housing , now I've got to send universal credit 4 months bank statements , 3 photo shots of my passport , they had all this when I claimed my pension.
But the thing is ,it's rape of a person's fabric ,personal details , I'm 64 not 21 I'm not going to train for the Olympics, but the pressure ,intimidation is off the scale , your treated like a none human ,like scum .
I'm close to blowing up big time , I'm barking , we are losing our rites ,dignity ,the rite to exist .

Those MPs stood on a manifesto that said Labour would keep the child benefit cap. Labour have their own child poverty strategy that will help with child poverty.

As a temporary measure, It would work for new parents starting with their first child onwards. But they can’t just cut the benefits of those who already have an amount of children over that limit because they’ve already been consciously paying them, and as you say Dave, it would be taking the food out of children’s mouths, clothes off their backs, the energy bills being even harder to pay with their quality of life suffering it would be inhumane and therefore a breach of a basic human right.

@@DonkeyDave269. Agreed. And if there was, say, a three to 5 year period before that next child then it gives the parents time to prepare. Means testing would be good for those who are not on benefits but I think it should extend to everyone. That way there’s less pressure on the system within that five year period. Their is a balanced way to do this.

Free school meals 365 days a year for all kids. Family allowance was 8 shillings a week for the 2nd child when i was a kid, when my older brother left school there was nothing. I never went hungry but life for my mother was hard. I agree that people shouldn't sit at home popping sprogs as a career as much as i don't think people should have to sell goods bought in good times should have to be sold,for peanuts, when times are hard . We've all heard about they've all got massive colour tellys and so on. 2 sides to every story.

Soon as Starmer was elected Party leader, I clearly remember reading a Tweet or part of an article written by Peter Mandelsohn that said Starmer must now come down hard on the party left, that he must be ruthless, etc. Maybe Mandelsohn had also mentioned expelling the left but can’t be sure, but the fact he said Starmer should be ruthless stayed in my mind. Certainly, the facts in the years since indicate Starmer took Mandelsohn’s words very seriously, and I’d go as far to say Mandelsohn is Starmer’s Svengali.

An unaffordable benefit increase is no better than an unaffordable tax cut, like the ones Truss fcuked our country over with.
