    I found one of your videos by accident and started watching them. Then I found this vid and I realized that I had a similar reel on a pole that I let my GF use in the 90's. It was a Zebco 33 "Classic" USA model in gold with "Continuous Anti-Reverse". It is mounted on an old Eagle Claw graphite pole. It prompted me to dig that out and rebuild it. It was stiff and the drag didn't work at all, but it was interesting because it did not have the usual anti reverse mechanism like this Rhino model. It has a One way bearing on the center shaft. Anyway, I cleaned it up fixed the drag system and took it fishing the other day. I had no idea these could cast that far.. Thanks for these vids.. Subscribed!

    Good news, Matthew! I was able to remove the center, steel, pinion bushing on my 33 Rhino and I was able to place into it an oiled, SR188ZZ ball bearing. I was able to still grease the pinion and it fit perfectly through the bearing and up through the top. The cone still attached nice and tight.
    It is nice to have at least a little super-tuning to this 33 Rhino edition, I had plenty of them from the 90s and this is a great way to revitalize them.

    • @OutFishing13Matthew
      @OutFishing13Matthew  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      So the front cone won't come off? Often that happens when dirt and grit gets in there. There are a couple tricks. First, put it in a freezer for a couple hours. Take it out and give it a good twist. If that doesn't work, you can get an oil filter strap wrench. That won't mar the cone. As a last resort I have used a large channel lock adjustable wrench.

      I used TriFlow grease for sewing machines. It is a little lighter in weight and is awesome for the drags. Some people use petroleum jelly which seems to works very well on the drags.

    I found a 33 Classic in my late father’s greenhouse. It looks like it’s basically the same reel. It has a 1996 copyright date on it. What is the function of the soft gold color material on the bail cover? It’s broken all to pieces on mine. Are replacement parts available or is that when you toss the reel?
    I’m probably going to have to take it completely apart and clean and lube it. The drag isn’t working at all. It won’t loosen when you turn the dial. When I first found it, the main gear wouldn’t keep in contact with the drive gear and I found there was some rust on the shaft catching the little nylon keeper and it would work itself out. I got that cleaned up and got the anti reverse working.
    It will cast and reel and I caught a fish with it the other day.
    But if I can, I’d like to get it back in top shape

    • @OutFishing13Matthew
      @OutFishing13Matthew  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Can you send me a photo to outfishingthirteen@gmail.com of the part you are calling a "bail cover" I think you are talking about the spinner head assembly. That is the part that has the line pick-up pins. If so, that crumbling material is the line brake, and it's purpose is to hold the line between the spinner cone and the front cone when casting. Parts are no longer available from the manufacturer. I might have a spare one in my part's bucket. There is a Zebco Shop and Swap group on Facebook, you can try. It would be worth taking apart and doing a complete service on it. Those are very common Zebco 33s and were made for quite a number of year. I am sure you can get it back into tip top shape. Then you will have a little part of your dad with you when you take it fishing.

    • @tannertuner
      @tannertuner 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@OutFishing13Matthew spinner head assembly is correct. Other Zebco reels, like my 404, don’t have the line brake, so I was wondering if that’s what it was.
      I was incorrect. It’s a 33L (Legacy), not a Classic.

    • @OutFishing13Matthew
      @OutFishing13Matthew  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@tannertuner It should work without the line brake, but not as well. I don't have a spare one for the 33L. You can fix the rotting rubber line brake with a large O-Ring around the same size from a hardware store and epoxy it on the spinner head assembly.

    I have an older Rhino Tough Zebco 33 which when I took the front cover off there was raised plastic part (on the reel assembly) that disintegrated. I looked at the website you suggested but not sure of the reel assembly would fit the rhino…any suggestions?

    • @OutFishing13Matthew
      @OutFishing13Matthew  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is a common problem on older Zebco reels with the synthetic rubber line brake. You either need to find an old new stock spinner cone or repair the one you have. One the the best ways is to glue a large o-ring to the spinner cone.

    • @OutFishing13Matthew
      @OutFishing13Matthew  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@benwilson409 That is true. The gear ratio can vary depending on the size of the reel, the model and year made. You can figure it out by counting the number of gears on the main gear and then the pinion. For example a 18 toothed main gear and 8 teeth on the pinion give you a 2.2:1 gear ratio. Sometime the reel has the ration on the reel.

    Hi Mathew, I have a Zebco 33L Legacy that has the same anti reverse as this Rhino. I took the anti reverse apart, including removing the plastic actuator switch. Now the switch is very loose and does nothing. The reel is stuck with the anti reverse on. Do you have any suggestions as to what might be going on? Thank you.

    • @OutFishing13Matthew
      @OutFishing13Matthew  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Boy that is really tough to diagnose a reel I cannot look at. My only suggestion is to take it apart again and make sure it is put back together correctly. Something must be wrong.
      I rarely ever take those AR switches apart since the plastic gets old and hard. Make sure it stops in the off and on positions. I may make a video just on the AR for those reels. Send me some photos to Outfishingthirteen@gmail.com
