RAF Upper Heyford was a Royal Air Force station located 5 miles (8 km) north-west of Bicester near the village of Upper Heyford, Oxfordshire, England. In the Second World War the airfield was used by Bomber Command. During the Cold War, Upper Heyford was one of the former RAF bases chosen to house the United States Air Force Strategic Air Command (SAC) strategic bombers on 90-day TDY deployments until 1965, from 1966 United States Air Forces In Europe (USAFE) tactical reconnaissance aircraft, and from 1970 F-111 strike aircraft.

I've said it before, there aren't many folks on TH-cam putting out this quality of drone footage, nevermind it being footage of such incredible niche locations, great stuff, Matt.

This is really good and a fascinating insight of the place I worked at for 6 yrs, driving all those luxury’ , vehicles. Good times for me, I could get my car serviced for pittance, & got people expensive tyres seriously cheap,

An episode of Inspector Lewis is centered on the base and the protests against nuclear proliferation which occurred along Camp Road toward Lower Heyford in the early '80s. We were told to have nothing to do with the protesters. We were, after all, guests of Her Majesty. I left in January of '83. Later that year, the protests got a bit wild. In the Inspector Lewis episode, a murder suspect had... well, I won't ruin it for you. Lewis and Hathaway rush to the base to find...

Brilliant footage, really gives a sense of the place. At 8' 45" in you show an interesting, nondescript, building with dummy windows. It's a hardened building called the Trigger Store, associated with the 'special weapons' stored. Designed to look like an ordinary building, hence the dummy windows. Would be interesting to peek inside...
At 24 minutes in the building to the left of shot is the base for the chaufuer company, Parkers European. They do a lot of Audi events like film premiers etc.
At 29 minutes in you fly over one of the hardened squadron headquarter buildings. There's one for each group of hangers, 4 or 5 in total I think, all similar layout.

Many thanks, great info. I think the way to tell false buildings which are important is the amountr of ligh ning conductors they have. For a crappy building it has bristling with lightning conductors.

It's nice to see that side of the base . only get up to drak furniture now and again, often seen TVP doing their driver training on the runway, also have been told they do some breaching training on one of the old buildings. I'm surprised you didn't visit tower 13 that is surposted to be haunted. Top vid keep it up

Just got round to watching this superb work as always dude lovely music and indeed it does show the huge scale of this place and how sad it is to see it like this i would have loved to see it in its heyday with aircraft on the move looked like a great explore with a lot more to see in other areas of the site.

Awesome flying. I live in upper Heyford and fly my mavic air around the same buildings. What FPV gear are you using and also what it sat on top of your mavic. I saw you landed it in your hand and something was on it. Very curious.
Keep up the great work. I love watching all that you do. Very interesting.

Great footage Matt, as per usual. Part was used in the sci fi film Annihilation. The group "slept" in the large observation tower.

According to Wikipedia RAF Upper Heyford was first built in 1918 and bomber crews were trained there in 1945 but if you look at Google Earth Historical Imagery for 1945 - There's nothing there except fields - One of them must be wrong??
