    The Beolit 20 is my first Bang and Olufsen product, and I couldn't be happier. I've used it in my backyard and it sounds like I have surround speakers, and it not a small backyard. I love the wireless charging and its the reason I got the 20 over the 17. I got the silver/tan over the black/blue, but I wish they had continued the black/black. I cant get over how well the bass fills any room and doesn't muddle any of the range. The only real complaint I'd have, is wanting a forward and backward button on the speaker or a double press play/pause to go forward since I don't always have my phone in my hand or on me. Battery life is amazing. I can wait to be able to get more Bang and Olufsen products, I hoping to get the A9 next.

    Does the Beolit20 have a DAC circuit built in to decode MQA somehow when paired ? I have a new pair of the same color 20's and they are incredible! I use them everywhere. Ive been experimenting with the KA3 FIIO DSD512, a variety of sources - V60 with unlocked Onkyo HF player that reports DSD 5.6Mhtz upscaling from 192/24 and 11.2M upscaling of DSD due to the 8-core quad-dac V60. and was wondering if there is a big benefit from splitting the 3.5 output from the KA3 in the DSD upscaling and going stereo mono lines to try it out. But maybe thats too much advance processing for the B&0lit 20s. I have found the higher sampling FLAC and AIFF in at least 24 bit REALLY open up a new dimension for these when paired. its sparkling pure sonic joy !

    Nice review Steve I've been thinking lately of buying this speaker,in the last I had Bose Soundlink Mini 1 and 3 that also produces big sound for a small speaker.But now the competition have caught come when it comes to Bluetooth speakers producing sound from relatively small size.I have many Bluetooth speakers both unbranded and branded and last year I bought The Huawei Sound X Bluetooth Speaker and it also produces great bass and is powerful but is run by mains power,it originally sold for £299 but I got it for £199. Huawei Sound X uses Diavelet technology in it's speaker to produce the great bass sound.Strongly doubt if the Beolet 20 offers much better bass than my Huawei Sound X and I would expect it to being that it cost £450. Battery life I hear is terrible so makes me wonder why this Beolet 20 speaker is not mains powered also like my Huawei Sound X?£450 for a Bluetooth Speaker that the battery will run down quickly if player relatively loud in my view is not worth it.I hear claims that the speaker should last 24 hours but that seems grossly exaggerated. Very good speaker but there are other Bluetooth speakers that do more for less money.

    Hiya Steve, I just had a question about this new Beolit 20 model. did B&O manage to fix the distortion problems on this new model that the old Beolit 17 suffered from? The older version seemed to run into some problems when you played more bass heavy tracks through the speaker above half volume. To me this sounded almost like the DSP would over push the drivers and cause the bass to have this strange pow pow almost flabby character whenever a strong beat or heavy kick drum would play through the unit itself. I know I’m not the only one that has ran into this issue as I’ve seen a few people make videos on here showing this problem in full effect so was just wondering if they managed to rectify this on the new model and if it now plays cleaner?

    • @soundsheavenly
      @soundsheavenly 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Good question! I haven't been able to get the Beolit 20 to distort at all, but I suggest trying this for yourself with music that you know would be an issue on the Beolit 17 - please let me know what results you get.

    • @lewis02mc
      @lewis02mc 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the quick reply! I haven’t purchased it yet as I have been sceptical about buying this new model just because they’ve stated that they haven’t changed the sound. Though they probably wouldn’t want to admit it they could have easily been sneaky and tweaked a couple things to rectify these issues behind the scenes and honestly I hope that this would be the case. funnily enough I’ve also ran into these issues with the original A1 and P6 and i actually think it all just boils down to the really strong tuning they’ve used in some past models and the drivers they’ve used just not being able to fully handle it. I will say my old S3 never had these problems and they actually managed to fix this issue with the newer second gen A1 and that speaker is now so much smoother and agile sounding than the original without this strange distortion. Hopefully while they haven’t specified it they’ve done the same with this new Beolit 20 model as I might just give in and buy one to test this theory out for myself. It may not sound it right now but I do actually love the brand a lot and think they produce some of the highest quality products on the market I just think you do have to be a lot more picky on products when they’re in this higher price range. (Sorry for the rambling lol)

      The it’s a honest 37hz it’s so sad almost all companies proclaim 20,000-20 ratings but don’t even come close, as well as misleading consumers that let’s say X high end company makes a speaker or any company for that matter and it rates a 20hz capability it negates any trust the consumer would have. As in it may very well be a stupendous speaker but because they said 20hz frequency response people may just see that and tout it’s just another garbage and falsely portrayed product…😅

They’re not the loudest at an enclosed dual 8” 500W RMS but it’s the fastest responding sub/speaker I’ve ever experienced because while one wonder on one end plays X frequency then if it has to change tone right away it doesn’t have to wait for the one driver to be thrown in and out again. It uses its other driver to cut even the fastest response time in half these things are old but gold and built like bombs.

      B&O claim a 30% improvement in battery life from the Beolit 20 compared to the 17, as well as the addition of wireless charging for your phone. I tested it out Jurassic Park theme and thought that it was incredible until I hear it on the Airpod Max. Definitely a lot more details on the Airpod Max. Anyway, it’s not fair comparison as Headphones would aways win in price/performance. And you can’t wear your headphone 24/7. Anyway, i doubt that you will get the same details as Airpod Max even with the new Beosound Level.

      Thanks, that is interesting to hear. I haven't tried the wireless stereo pairing, but I like the sound of my single Beolit 20 for music. Good headphones like the Beoplay H95 will always beat any normal speakers for sound quality, but (as you mentioned) you can't wear headphones all the time!

    This speaker is exactly the same as the Beolit 17 in terms of sound, nothing different inside The only differences are battery life, wireless charging and aesthetics Not a substantial upgrade

    • @soundsheavenly
      @soundsheavenly 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hi, sound quality is the same, but battery life is up 30% (at normal listening levels) accordingly to B&O, compared to Beolit 17. Plus wireless charging as you mentioned, without any price increase.

    • @soundsheavenly
      @soundsheavenly 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Good question. The speakers are designed in Denmark, but made elsewhere to reduce the cost. If the specifications are correct, the place of manufacture shouldn't reduce the quality. However, speakers made in Europe would often be too expensive for most people to buy

    Such a pity it's a 'mono' speaker despite reproducing both left and right channels merged into one! Sadly that puts me off going for it. Who wants a mono speaker in the 21st century however good it sounds? I know it can be linked with a second Beolit 20, but it's not practical to simultaneously lug 2 speakers around my home. Back to Bose I am afraid...

    • @soundsheavenly
      @soundsheavenly 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, it is a bit different to conventional stereo sound, although as a long-term stereo lover I do find that I get on really well with the Beolit for background music whilst doing jobs around the house - in this situation the lack of a stereo sound stage doesn't matter

      @@drewbtodd Agreed, but it can be also interesting to hear how a mix sounds on a "point stereo" speaker, as this is becoming a popular way of playing music for many people and it can highlight issues in a recording that may be masked in a traditional stereo setup

      Beolit 20 has Bluetooth 4.2, which as far as I am aware only differs from Bluetooth 5 in terms of the Bluetooth Low Energy specifications - these are aimed at wearable devices, where battery life is critical. For larger devices like the Beolit with ample battery capacity, there should be no difference between Bluetooth 4 and 5 in real terms.

      @@soundsheavenly Yes i heard it in real life and true, the sound is amazing and nothing wrong with the design. But as a daily driver at the end i have chosen the Marshall Stanmore II because all my devices have at least aptx support. And design is great too, i was doubting between the beolit and the stanmore II, beolit has battery, but i dont move things around anyway. both good speakers... as a Bluetooth device. For cinema i use a complete other system of course. And about beolit en stanmore II... My choice was really hard coz i liked both a lot. But the aptx possibility and maybe... maybe the slightly lower price tag, made me choose Marshall. Also my purpose, a daily driver for background music while working, not really high end purpose. And i understand people chose beolit above Stanmore 2. It's just about choice.
