Great video, I just pulled waterpump off my boat that has the LT1 in it and had to get new coupler. Freaking 55 dollars later. Good job! Vette is in great shape.
This video was pretty helpful to me. I'm about to embark on the journey to replace the pump on my 91 c4. One thought, I will probably put some heavy weight paper towel in the black ports and remove the gasket material. Then as I pull the paper out it should clean any potential material out of the ports. Thanks for taking the time to video this.
Appreciate the time to vid this. I don't car how easy you or anyone makes this or any other project look, it will take me 3x as long and I always hit a snag. Plus, no way could I do these projects without a turrets like tapestry of cus words.
Hey Michael Just found your channel. Good video. Thought I'd add a suggestion for your viewers. Before you bolt up your new water pump, it's a good idea to drill and tap the water pump weep hole, so you can install a small threaded tube on the bottom of the water pump housing, and you can put a piece of rubber hose on it to direct engine coolant away from the Opti-Spark to prevent it from shorting it out and ruining it in the event that you do ever have your water pump fail again. Again, good video, this is just a suggestion that may help out your viewers. Take care.
No need for that on a 1995 or 1996 LT's. GM fixed that problem with a vent/drain holes in the opti spark housing. You can dump water on it and it will start no problem. 94 and earlier LT's just replace with a newer style opti..
So did the unit go bad after changing the waterpump? Because water leaking on it is no good obviously and you you took that pump out you really got the optispark wet!! Normally when someone goes in there and does this job everything gets done! Hoses, belt, waterpump and optispark. I just did this job myself but i did the whole shabang!! Even plugs and wires!! Im not gonna have to get back in there for a LONG TIME!! Hopefully!!🤞🤞🤞
ok. tried replacing the water pump on a 95 c4. Now engine cranks and have fuel and spark but won't start. any ideas. car had not been run for about 6 months waiting to change pump.
Fuel, spark, air, compression, timing. If you don't have one of each you wont get anywhere. If I were to bet, I'd bet on the Opti.. Check your coil too. Everything in the area of the work you did. On the 95, you have a MAF in the intake snorkel too. Sorry it's a bit tough to diagnose remotely.. best of luck.
Good video, I am about to embark on changing my 95 pump and am contemplating an electric, can I ask you what your decision process was in going back to engine-driven instead of electric?
Thanks for video. A little long for just changing one simple part but again thanks. One final tip for you. If you are showing your face in a video and you can't see the entirety of your head YOU HAVE THE CAMERA TOO CLOSE to your head. lol. Cheers.
@@futurestrader6435 No prob. I never had to do the Opti because I have a guardian angel or something. Mine was of the unvented variety too! As I said, blame the designers of the F body cars for moving the windshield base out past the 350's distributor location.. Corvette, Roadmaster, Caprice, Impala, and Fleetwood just got the same LT1. Unf. I was blindsided by a kid in a Tahoe so the Vette you see here rests in pieces..
240,000+ I don't have the car anymore. Got a newer one with super low miles.. This one got totalled by a kid in a Tahoe who apparently just didn't look for traffic. :(
I hope you got it back in!! Lol 11 months later...... but I'm kinda at a loss as to why you're having issues getting it back in. Are you working on a corvette or something else?

Thanks. Was in great shape. It got totaled when a 16-year-old turned left in front of me from a parking lot. Tahoe vs. Corvette. Tahoe wins.

You're welcome. You make a good point - I used a vacuum but I don't think that made it to the vid.

Hey Keith, Great suggestion!
Keith Lane This exactly what I did to my LT1 Camaro.

So only belt has to come off other then air intake ?

I never considered an electric pump. I guess it never occured to me to check for any alternative.
Did you have to loosen or remove the belt ? Hope not lol
Wow, that was a long time ago. Sorry, I don't remember exactly, but I'd very much expect that the belt would have to come off.
Did you ever end up having to change the opti or did you get ride of it before then?
Nope, never worked on the Opti. It did have some high RPM issues once or twice but it cleared up both times.
Thanks for video. A little long for just changing one simple part but again thanks. One final tip for you. If you are showing your face in a video and you can't see the entirety of your head YOU HAVE THE CAMERA TOO CLOSE to your head. lol. Cheers.
Yeah, I'm a bit of an amateur I'll admit that!
Mike regardless thank you for the video. It’s overall very good and helpful. God bless GM for going us hell on earth/the optispark n waterpump

I have no idea how to get this water pump back in, sob is a tight fit

@@C4VETTELT1 I did, now to fix the clutch 😂🤣
