“Nothing on that shelf is practical,” the protagonist says, right after dumping an entire loose jigsaw puzzle out of its box and into his pocket. 😂 I love these types of games, but that made me laugh. This has been a fun series. Thank you for playing it!
1:40:10 I think this was an homage and reference to Nancy Drew, since it is a note to Nancy from Dr. Carson. This could be a nod to Carson Drew, the name of Nancy's father.
The internet as we know it was introduced in 1993, but the American Army had been working on a form of internet since the late 1960s (the goal was to be able to send messages from one computer to another.) Since the facility has army connections, they may have had a type of internet in closer to what the army had at the time in 1987 that would have let them send messages from one computer to another. The puzzle at 1:37:22 kind of reminds me of the last puzzle in the epilogue of the first The Room game
Imagine them having a training program for their facilities. Man 1: ...and to open the door to reach this room, you need to read the code on the boxes and enter it into this puzzle here. Man 2: Read the co - Maaaaaaan, just wait until my 6 months are up. This is the last job I'm taking for this company. Man 3: You got 6 months?? I got a full year! Man 1: That's because you'll be working in the mines. Man 3: Now, hold up. No one said anything about mines.
If you are looking for a HOG game series with a contiguous story over a LOT of games (9+) then seriously consider looking up the Lost Lands series by Five-BN games. They follow Susan from the time she's a younger woman till later games where she's become a grandmother as she gets drawn into the titular Lost Lands and goes from merely trying to escape to later games helping her friends face calamity. I honestly never expected quite so much carry-over and to have some actual depth to the story telling, character development and real world consequences during a mobile HOG series.
Totally agree, Five BN games are just as awesome as this. I've played them all. They're latest is Artifact Seekers, so many chapters and more are coming. I'm totally down to follow you through on the ones I haven't done.❤
It's funny. I work in an actual chemistry/biochemistry lab so I know these chemicals and equipment. I know it's a HOG, but I see these ridiculous codes (like the chess set being exactly in place for a padlock) or unreal correlations (the pipe colors and the projector wires) and I can't help but laugh and wonder what the heck these scientists were high off their asses on to design their lab space like this. And the sliding puzzle lock on the fire extinguisher had me chuckling at the sheer aneurysm that would give our OSHA guy.
I highly recommend the Journeyman Project series for fun point-and-click puzzle games. The third installment, Legacy in Time, was ahead of its time back in the day. Great plot, dangerous and friendly aliens, ancient mythical civilizations, actual actors acting, great dialogue and witty humor, adventure and action... The game's got it all. Plus, it has Arthur, a one of a kind AI companion who makes listening to background information fun and engaging because the actor is a comedian :)

Where I live, literally a 5 minute walk down the road you can do mine tours. I live on an island in Newfoundland and we used to have such a big iron ore trade, it’s actually not safe to drink the tap water here because the water turns black a lot of the time and it’s mostly from iron ore!
That's so cool to me because where I live, people can't drink any kind of well water most of the time, also because of iron content but a lot of the time it turns orange! It's because after a big coal mining operation, it left a lot of the iron exposed and it rusted. I never thought about what it would look like in other places where it hadn't been disturbed!
@@Vampyric-Queen-Kit I never thought about it turning orange but that makes so much sense! Our water also mostly smells like rotten eggs😅 where you live does it have a weird smell?

If you’re looking for point and click games with a spooky vibe, I really recommend At Dead of Night! It’s not puzzle based in the way you’d expect, but it involves piecing together clues which in itself can be a puzzle!
That is honestly the scariest game I have ever watched Mark play. I was on the edge of my seat every episode wondering if he was going to get caught at any moment. I think about that game often. In fact I might have to rewatch that series
I agree that "mine exploration" content is good, has that nice mildly spooky but intriguing quality that gets my brain to shut up for a few minutes and just ease into the moment. I get a similar feeling whenever I watch those chilled-out Japanese camper van videos. If (like me) you have a bad habit of watching YT before bedtime, they're good videos to get cozy with.
The trick with puzzles like the one at 43:30 is that you need to start at one of the 2 odd degree vertices (the points with 3 paths stemming out of it) and end at the other odd degree vertex. Eulerian paths have exactly 2 vertices with odd degree. Only thing I remember from Discrete Math
I'm amused by how the people in the game are like "let me destroy this computer by smashing only the keyboard and/or monitor." Fun series, I enjoyed this!
Whilst the puzzles were still so good, i feel the ending doesnt hold up to how good the earlier games are - especially chapter 1. I wish we got more about the shadow following us or what happens though the anomoly, or why Alan thought it was salvation
Not sure when or if you’ll see this, but the software company that made this game just made a new series. It’s called Aurora Hills: Chapter 1. I think it just launch fall of last year, 2023. There were the shadow people and there was the guy who stole the piece because ? told him to.. was it the shadow guys? Why? So the whole thing was put back together again for what purpose? And then the shadow guy helps the player not fall, to which the player then blows up the anomaly. It seems like the goal of the guy who stole the piece was to NOT have it get destroyed, so if it was the shadow guy who set him to it, then why would the shadow guy, then, help the player to destroy it?
