- Ruth and Phil interview Marco about the upcoming new series of Hell's Kitchen. He looks very moody and miserable and Phil gives a look at the camera during the interview! They show Marco what some of the celebrities said the day before on This Morning and Marco comments on what they said. Very awkward interview! Broadcast Wednesday 8/4/09

Marco isnt an imbecile. In this interview, hes playing the game, he knows its just a route for daytime viewers to tap into the show hes promoting. What I like is the presenters are almost scared. Why be scared of Marco, he commands respect because he is quite frankly, one of the greatest chef's in the world.

I didn't think this was an awkward interview at all. That's just Marco being Marco. He's quiet, contemplative, intense - and cooler than any rock or sport star on the planet.

Gordon's not a bad chef, he's just not my level. Gordon has never gotten over the fact that he chose to cry in front of me. Therefore he feels the need to bully other people so as to look tough.

Hilarious interaction between Marco and Philip Schofield. Marco is a proper man, cool as a cucumber, a master of his craft and he knows it. Schofield is a nicey nicey, politically correct little ponce who says what everybody wants to hear. Marco is streets ahead and it really shows here
Marco, for me, is on par with Christopher Walken on his presence. Intimidating, scary but can be good.
Marco's calm and colective response to Anthea rearranging his kitchen: "Of course she will...she will have all the time to do it, won't she?":))))) - GENIUS.

This is a guy who has devoted his life to food and preparing food for others. When you love something that much you can describe it in any form you choose. Ramsay's the same but watch Hells Kitchen USA, he craves the camera more than the food.

Unlike Gordon Ramsay, Marco doesn't use disrespect to try and motivate. He uses inspiration.

They tried to demonize him and failed. He's just sitting an looking with his genuine face. The hosts are putting on an artificually happy affect, that they never have when alone.. MPW is just himself.
But thats.....thats how marco IS. To be anything else would be being fake, contrived and pretty pointless. He does speak quietly. he does pause for a long time, hes always been that way. I would rather someone be honest about their feelings, mood, opinions etc than just lie for the cameras. Thats what makes marco great; he's honest and open and genuine. I guess I just have a long standing hatred for anything contrived or fake. I like honesty in people.

This was a brilliant and hilarious interview. He wasn't necessarily moody or anything, he just adapted to the environment. When Phil looked at the camera with a distraught look I nearly laughed out loud, he nearly shat himself

You said Marco made you feel uncomfortable, so I automatically assumed you felt intimidated. The reason he makes you cringe is maybe because of an insecurity within you, that you're not aware of or admitting to. Just listen to Marco's voice: he thinks momentarily and responds with a smile, and you have to take into account that he is the chef in 'Hell's Kitchen', so maybe he's partly playing a character. Marco is serious about his art, but he enjoys a laugh too. And stop being so pedantic!

There are long silences before he is answering, and he comes across as very aloof, hence why I think this is uncomfortable. I know people want to pause for thought but he just waits too long. As for the 'I think your intimidated by him' comment, where did you get that from? I just said it was uncomfortable, so I don't know what your thought process was behind that. And finally it should be 'you're intimidated' not 'your'.

There is a portrait of Churchill looking incredibly grumpy because someone has just taken away his cigar. Marco quite possibly hasn't had a cigarette for a while and is similarly pissed off.
some of you guys really need to remember, these are celebrities. Marco isn't going to swear at celebrities, even when they all pretty much know eachother. since this is celebs in that season he is obviously going to tone it down quite a bit but still at the same time be honest.

I doubt at this time though that Gordon would be intimidated though. however, Both Gordon and Marco teach differently and it works for them.
What's so awkward about it, he's just laid back, honest, quite charming, and yet formidable; but I do think at times he's playing a character, whereas Gordon Ramsey is for real!
This guy is so fuckin calm but looks deadly at the same time like a shark waiting to attack...

@jessc1979 Don't kid yourself, although Marco comes across as very sympathetic he and Ramsay both have the ego of a continent. I am pretty sure that when you would have worked under Marco when he was 28 it would have been just as worse as with Ramsay when he was 28.

As an ex chef I agree I'm still like that but to be successful in that insane world you have to be like that .
