(1968)Cleo Parker Robinson Dance (1970) Lula Washington Dance Theatre(1980) which all have schools On MoBBallet we have a time line that can show you that black ballet schools have been training Black ballet dancers in the US since 1919 with Ella Gordon, Essie Marie Dorsey in 1926, in 1939
Bernice Hammond founds Hammond Dance Studio, Washington DC, 1941 Jones-Haywood School of Ballet is founded in Washington DC 1946, Sydney King and Marion Cuyjet found the Sydney-Marion School of Dance in Philadelphia, 1948, Therrell C. Smith School of Dance is founded in Washington DC and black people were also training with white instructors as well. Ailey became involved with the Lester Horton Dance Theater there in 1949 he and Carmen De Lavallade studied with Horton. In addition to starting his school in 1969. I love sight seeing .Although walking in New York is so, Congested but still Beautiful . Love The Theatre OF Harlem. love the mask fathom; the Apollo, Harlem Night club and Wendy Williams However The individuals taught themselves In Detroit. Which did not have a dance studio, or Physical Entertainment show. Back then, There were no such teacher. Maybe a Gym Teacher, who peak an interest into Dancing. ( because she saw so much talent. Then a gym class) So, that gym teacher let the female class preform on the gym floor. For the school talent show. Instead of during gym. But i learned most of my moves from watching Debbie Allen and others. But thanks for the response

I will never forget the scene when the teacher tried to make Leroy read and he went off. I made sure I could read vey well so I would never have to experience that type of shame. I ran back to my dorm at FIT looking to borrow audition money and a choreographed dance you must perform before Juilliard Faculty with challenging day of classes and interviews, The dance division director stated that my solo reminded her of her hometown bestfriend owner of Dayton Ballet in Ohio which turned out to be my dance teacher. I graduated from the same class and dorm as Viola Davis and Audra McDonald. A tough but tight and loving supportive faculty!

He was untrained also & became an amazing talent, thanks to wonderful choreographers & his own skill, I was in love with "Leroy" on Fame & in love with "Fik-shun" on SYTYCD, which Debbie Allen happen to be a guest judge on, when Fik-shun was on, so, I thought that was a great "circle of life" moment for her. RIP Gene, never stop dancing. I still love you Fik-shun, you deserve the shout out. Stay safe & happy everyone.
