Culture Quest: Ukraine, Chapter 6 - Nata from ONUKA

While this is a national television series in the United States, it’s pretty much just me - Ian Grant - putting this trip and show together, so I rely heavily on the help from the people we are spending time with. And without exception everyone in our one hour Ukraine special gave more of their time and help than I had any right to expect. In particular, Nata Zhyzhchenko - the lead singer and co-founder of ‪@ONUKA‬ - went above and beyond the call, not only inviting us up to her home in Chernihiv only days after returning from a charity concert herself in Lisbon and sharing her life with us in our interview, but she also introduced us to people that became critical parts to the story we were trying to tell: the inspiring team from This Is My City ‪@thisismycity2476‬ and Stas from Chernihiv Lace demer.cn.ua/ who is restoring the history of Chernihiv one house at a time. On top of all of that, she let us weave her music throughout the episode which sets such an incredible tone to the show: literally from start to finish.
So Nata and her influence is felt throughout the second half of this episode in one way or another, and I can’t thank her enough for that. And most importantly, she exemplifies what so many Ukrainians are fighting for: the survival of their culture and country and its potential future.
