The Goa Hippy Tribe project is about people who shared a common space and time on the shores of Goa, India during the 70's 'hippy revolution' and are now re-uniting after more than 30 years via Facebook.
Director Darius, who spent his early years living on the beaches of Goa, traveled back to document this unique re-union of an old community. The video interviews were posted to the Goa Hippy Tribe Facebook page creating a unique full circle link to the story. The project was Funded by SBS television, Screen Australia, Screen NSW and was a co production between Freehand Productions, Being Films and Dubz TV.

Today our Goa I'd totally destroyed by our greedy politicians and the real estate sharks who have come from rest of India and turning our beautiful Goa into a concrete jungle.

Arrived there overland from London by Magic Bus. My first trip abroad from England. 78/79. I was not a hippie. That said, Anjuna then was a WONDERFUL place full of amazing people. At the age of 73, Eight Finger Eddie remains a true icon in my life. I treasure the conversations. Rest easy my good friend.
And no, having seen this video, would I EVER entertain going back.
wtf, we had the great times!

Yes Lion King it is a blessed place Goa. The early hippies were clean and respectful of the holy soil. I was one of them. Very sad to see the plastic there. This is a Global poisoning of our planet by oil industry. The most remote beaches in the world have plastic on them. Education starts at home in the community. Cannabis can replace all plastics and oil products, Teach your children well. Namaste

    1) "Facebook is what brought all these people together and they all hate it and they all say how terrible it is..." - Facebook doesn't bring people together or change lives, it is a tool people can use to reconnect or to change their lives, but one they can also use to hurt others with.
    2) They spoke about how 'everything changed' in terms of the drugs and music - If they defined who they were in terms of what they were taking and what music they were listening to, it is little surprise that 'everything changed' - the thing people don't always get about hippy and similar groups is that it is not about the drugs, about the music, they are taking drugs as part of something else - this is part of being free and (re)connecting to the universe. Giving people marijuana and hallucinogens and playing psychedelic rock does not make them into hippies, there has to be a real desire to leave most of what has now become entrenched in our society behind.
    3) there is a lot of freedom, a lot of fun, yes - but there is a degree of hard work and sacrifice which can not be denied. Being a hippy is not just about running away from your alleged responsibilities, smoking hash and dancing topless in the moonlight, it is about building something new, questioning what is important and exploring what we can leave behind. I would not so much compare a hippy to a crazy homeless person but rather to a monk living on a high mountain top.
I was raised by hippy parents, I do not want to identify myself as belonging to any group or assign meaning to things - I am sharing my understanding of this for people who think that if they join a facebook group, camp out on the beach and smoke a lot of outdoor they can revive the hippy movement.
The reasons people chose this lifestyle are not only still around, they are even more relevant - the question is if anything meaningful can be achieved by trying to embrace such principles in modern times...

Also if ya dig and enjoyed this video Goa hippy tribe which was cool and still a long haired after all these years though with a changed heart and peace 😀 you may also enjoy the song " Most of All " By Glenn Kaiser and Where Roses Grow Live by Rez Band Awesome songs check them out. Also I remember hearing the song by Led Zepp " In My Time of Dyin " during my drug years and made me think about death and Jesus. Then a hippy friend that dug Jesus told me more of Jesus love and forgiveness and how I could also know Jesus love. So in 1981 I cried out to Jesus and wow man He came into my life and I had and have so much joy and peace and now know that through Jesus when I die I will be with Him in Heaven. Hey Jesus loves each of you also and yall can know Him if you are at all open. Just cry out to Him and a good question to ask yourself if you were to die today would you go to heaven ? And if yes why ? To find out more please read the Gospel of John in the Bible or check out the movie on TH-cam. 😀

It's just normal classical music. There's no fixed "pieces" in India like "Symphony no. 5" or something. It's just ragas (set of made-up rules about which notes / flats / sharps are allowed / disallowed in this particular raga - then it's pure freestyle). Anyone can make up a raga and 2 musical sessions using the same raga can sound markedly different overall, while still being identifiable by someone who recognizes notes. As far as I know SaReGaMaPaDhaNiSa is almost identical to DoReMiFaSoLaTiDo.

In my opinion hippies were neither good or bad necessarily, I doubt they all did the same things. Im sure some of them used psychedelics responsibly and didn't overdo and abuse them, im sure not all of them had casual sex. Spirituality doesn't involve random meaningless sex, that's no different than modern american life anyway. In america hookup culture is very prominent and normal even though it harms many peoples mental health. Spirituality isn't supposed to be destructive to anyone including yourself. I don't wish to offend anyone who considers themselves a hippy but it seems like a big majority of hippies were drug addicted and sex addicted. Addiction is the opposite of spirituality, spirituality is how you set yourself free and all addiction does is enslave you.

@wtnomad I admire hippies and they changed america in a great way, they paved the way for free thinking and spiritual interest, im just saying they weren't very developed as a whole spirituality in a practical way. Many of them converted to hindu or buddhism taoist ect. Being hippy alone isn't a form of spirituality, its an introduction or beginning of consideration to it.

jeezies; so i just watched this for the first time in Jan 27 2020...and tho i never met any of those Goa people ( prolly because i had fleas in Kathmandu ), i straight away thought 'my people'...especially some of those old girls with nice plastic teeth like mine,,, the thought of getting amongst some nice herb, some clean LSD, lil bit of MDMA with those people,,, would be so wonderful for me - about the coolest thing i can think of. I doubt if i would be prepared to suffer Goa for it, or India, or anywhere chinese holiday - as i write, coronavirus is trying to take over the world. Bat soup was never going to be a good idea.
