    OpenVSP did not know it! It is a fantastic and unique project! very interesting, I've been looking for a specific software for designing my 3D aircraftmodels for years.
    I use various 3D modelers (Blender, Wings 3D, Freecad). To draw my planes I realize the 3 orthographic views drawing the concepts with QCad (cad 2d Open source), then I export the high resolution image with the 3 orthographic views inside Blender, and finally model the various parts of the aircraft .
    OpenVSP is very convenient, I really like the gui that allows modeling through simple sliders to change the geometry. Very useful and interesting to include the various parts of the plane (fuselage, wings, pilot, and more) I learned the basics experimenting with the various commands, some things I have to understand but I assure you that it is not as difficult as it seems.
    I love this project, I only hope not to see it abandoned because it is really very useful.
    Useful advice: We need documentation, step by step tutorials for the realization of a complete model (simple, medium, intermediate, complex). We need only documentation to make it perfect.
    I have tested the export in obj and in dxf, fantastic! the obj models are imported perfectly, even the export in dxf is very nice, it is useful the possibility to export all 3 views (top, side, front) in visual spelling for 2D CAD drawing programs. Choice of measurement, I have tested the export in obj and in dxf, fantastic! the obj models are imported perfectly, even the export in dxf is very beautiful, it is useful to export all 3 views (top, side, front) in visual spelling for 2D CAD drawing programs. Choice of the measure, and coloring of the lines for the various parts of the model (useful for wireframe modeling).
    Thanks, OpenVSP is a masterpiece! I only hope that it will not be abandoned because it is a unique and truly well-designed project.

      OpenVSP isn't going anywhere, glad it is helpful to you. Check out the Google Group if you have in-depth questions.

    working on a foot launched blended wing concept which I hope to develop into an electric powered LSA and my research lead me here and to VSP for which I am massively grateful. See you at the hangar

    Nice sketch.The wing looks mildly reminiscent of the Horton designs but with enhancements.

    the software is amazing, i have been studying it, and i have a question, How can i model an aircraft fin, like rudder or elevator? and i think they are all important in aircraft conceptual design stage.

      Just use a Wing component, rotate and place it as needed. For a vertical fin, turn off XZ symmetry.

    Could I use 3D model for 3D print?

    • @openvspvideos5394
      @openvspvideos5394  7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Sure, OpenVSP can write out an STL file used as the starting point for any 3D printer. You'll want to run 'CompGeom' in OpenVSP before export to make your model into a single watertight triangle mesh.

    How can I change the airfoil geometry?

  • @zachhazen2627
    @zachhazen2627 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Does the blended geometry translate into VSPAERO? Sometimes I've found in programs like AVL those winglet sections need some decent curvature paneling to model the CL distribution.

      It should work fine, let us know if you have any trouble with it.

    Please help guys, my horrible Windows PC died on me and I had to rebuild a new machine and reinstall VSP but it crashes immediately on startup 100% of the time, at wit's end because I have projects that are being delayed as a result.
