Fun fact: if the moon were to fall to earth, it wouldn't actually collide with it but rather fall apart and become a ring system around the earth. Plus it would probably be known within the first few months it was falling due to tides getting drastically higher
If the moon got too close to the earth while still in orbital motion, it would form a ring system, but in this scenario, the moon has stopped revolving around the earth and is in free fall, it break up and shower the globe with a series of life ending impacts
Agreed, but there will be fragments from the Roche limit breakup hitting the planet anyway, and that's enough to wipe out pretty much all of life anyway.

I remember reading a couple of books as a kid where a similar thing happened; the moon was hit by a meteor and knocked out of orbit, causing changes in climate and weather, among other things. One book was from the POV of a teen in N.Y.C, and the other book was the POV of a teen in a more rural area (I want to say somewhere in the Midwest).
First of all, the EAS itself is really realistic and well-made. Good job! Secondly, what I will say is that the Moon would never hit Earth. In fact, it is currently very slowly drifting *away* from the Earth. However, if the moon were to hit Earth, then this EAS scenario would be pretty realistic. The moon would split up and become smaller chunks and some would hit Earth. However most would stay in orbit and over time would create a ring, similar to Saturn but on a much smaller scale, so good job with that as well. I can tell a lot of effort went into this mock, so props to you for making it really well.
The tidal forces will cause havoc even before the moon gets close. Depending on it's trajectory, it (the moon) may break up as it goes below the Roche limit and instead of a whole planetoid hitting the planet, you get maybe 15 % of the fragments from the breakup hitting the planet...that alone will wipe out 99+% of life on the planet anyway.
@@jaycee330 True, plus you will have some fragments being shot out of Earth's orbit. And even if all the fragments magically stayed in placed, they would most likely block out the sun and destroy our satellites and space technology up there.

This reminds me of the 1970's tv series Space:1999 in which the moon is hurled out from its earth orbit due to an accidental manmade nuclear explosion on its surface and moves away into space with hunderds of humans on a lunar base on it called moon base alpha.
Scientifically, this is inaccurate. Let me explain, and correct me if I'm wrong. The moon wouldn't just simply crash into Earth whilst being intact; furthermore, tidal forces would eventually rip the moon apart, causing numerous chunks of the moon to impact Earth. This would also create some sort of ring around the Earth (which did exist when the moon was created, but it was eaten away by the moon's pull). However, there are going to be negative effects after this, such as: no tides, no stabilization of Earth's tilt, climate, and rotation, possibly affecting seasons, and if the moon were to be formed into rings, it would cause half the sunlight to be blocked, causing more crop failures and food shortages. This world would theoretically become a planet full of anarchy.

DID YOU KNOW: This EAS Scenario is based on a movie called "MOONFALL", Which has the same occurence and events to this EAS.
Without the Moon, our Earth will spin faster, the night will be darker, and cities will be flooded by the tides.

It's called The Last Survivor's series by Susan Beth Pfeffer. Very well done and I would highly recommend them.
