Had no idea Canadian Customs existed. What a cool, and unique VW. Great walk around, Randy. We're all instant "authorities" now as to what makes it a Canada only car thanks to you! Steering wheel and rear fender badge were highlights for me. Whole thing about the engine/transaxle sitting at a different angle requiring a special dip stick is a real head scratcher. Somebody in Ottawa better buy this.
My first car when I turned 16 back in 1969, paid $300 Canadian for it. Car was in bad shape, the floors were pretty rotted out, shook like crazy going down the road. My dad made me get insurance on it, was $350.. more than the car cost! My dad wouldn't let me park it in the driveway as it leaked oil really bad. I'd buy the cheapest cans of oil I could find at the Canadian Tire store. Didn't have to change the oil ever! Broke down on the side of the road and the local police chief actually pushed me home one night with his 454 Chev Impala police cruiser, Put his front bumper up against my rear bumper and pushed me home! Great memories.
Ah the "factory callook" aka the standard models! What a great survivor with such an beautiful patina, i think repainting this one would be a crime against all survivor cars..
Very cool Randy!! I’m from Winnipeg and the casting company on the emblem would be “Aristo-Cast”. They did all of the local Manitoba and Winnipeg dealer emblems. I had no idea they would have supplied the VW emblems for the Canadian beetles. Great video!
Thanks Randy, I don't think i've seen a Beetle with no door pulls or armrests before. I have a new merch idea for you: Shine your car with Randy's patented nose oil!!
The details on a standard. A Canadian one at that! This is a super cool '60. Mine is a '57 Canadian with a paragraph in German. Wax ass'y pencil on the original driver's door something about "Eine finger..." It's in script with original prairie beige over spray. I hope to translate it someday. It's weird.
@@JohnShinn6078 Yeah, I got that but, the rest of the grouping of words is in quick script. I am gonna try some filters and source lighting to get a pic revealing more detail.
I’ve owned that beetle twice! I imported it from Canada the first time and the second time I bought it from a guy in Texas then I flew down and drove it all the way back to Washington in like 3 days time. That was an adventure with 36hp! Made it home and then wouldn’t restart again until I adjusted the valves. Shortly after that I had the engine and trans rebuilt. I hand polished that car before and it will shine up for you. I installed that shift lock too. That car had the brightest 6V lights I’ve ever seen on a VW. Should be my name on the birth certificate. One downside, in between my ownerships, someone replaced the original bumpers with repops, I don’t know either. The originals were nice still when I sold it.
Hi James, Larry here, my wife and I have purchased this old VW and Randy will be delivering this back to Arizona this month. If you would be willing to speak with me about your experiences when you owned the car I would be very grateful. I'd like to preserve your comments and stories as you were the one who imported the car into the USA, and would like to know more about the engine and tranny rebuild. Many thanks. LS
My wife and I will be the new caretakers of this wonderful old survivor. As chance would have it the car will be returning to Arizona and will live about 30 miles from where the previous owners did. We plan on maintaining the car in it's present state with no modifications, preserving it's history for the next owners when we are done.
Randy----when you put this up for sale you must do an very extensive background check on any potential buyer to ensure that somebody doesn't get the crazy notion that the car will look "better" with a fresh coat of paint. That would be criminal.
I had a 1958 in Montreal and it was fully chromed and complete inside ,otherwise similar to this car . Did not have gas gauge but a floor lever to switch over to reserve. This is the cheapest version of a Beetle I have ever seen.
The Canada Custom feels like it was designed for crooked salesmen. I could see a yellow-checked suit, cigar smoking, wide brimmed fedora wearing sleazeball suckering someone into buying this model new at sticker price instead of either haggling down the price of a deluxe or getting a used one under the grounds of it being the "custom model"

What an awesome specimen to cross paths with. Can’t wait to see the transformation 👍

Thanks for the info!

I’ve got a sizable nose, but not quite big enough to extract bottles of oil from it. 😂. Love the idea though!!
Steering wheel looks like right outta 1938!
Nice vw I have one vw 1960 in Brasil and one vw karmanghia 1965
My 1959 had no gas gauge, it did have a reserve lever. It was my first car, a nice, solid 10 year old cabriolet.

Could be wrong but my translator says "one finger"

What a neat and virtually unique bug.
Dig your channel. Can you show the 'standard' in and out that we never got in USA?
