Hi all, I hope you enjoy this more longer form sort of content. I'm dabbling with the idea of adding more astronomy in to my channel. Video came out a bit later than anticipated! I underestimated just how long this would take to edit! Hope you enjoy.
@@Alan-gn6ij Cheers Alan! Don't worry, I love making the astrophotography vlogs so I'll certainly be making more of those when I can! These astronomy videos are just things I can cut in whilst the UK is being cloudy! :)
Despite being an astrophotographer, I am by no means anti-moon. I am, however, anti-supermoon for two reasons: 1) unless you have sophisticated instrumentation for measuring angular size and brightness, a supermoon looks no different than an ordinary full moon; it's a bait and switch; 2) the full moon is the least interesting of the lunar phases; the shadows along the terminator of a partial moon are so utterly cool. I'd much rather see the hype directed toward lunar eclipses or planetary conjunctions, or articles about Indigenous traditions regarding full moons and their names (providing, of course, they are accurate and don't conflate all Indigenous peoples into one idealized mass).
I find myself agreeing with you entirely there Dave. I don't hate the Moon, as I mentioned, I got my start with the Moon and I think many of us did. It's certainly a bait-and-switch unless you can measure it correctly. The quarter moon phases I think are a lot more interesting, or if you can get a toe-nail Moon. Lunar eclipses and conjunctions are also good! That reminds me I have another script I need to write and edit now also! hah It's interesting to see people who enjoy the Moon nomenclature. I mention the Full Moon names on my Night Sky series but I always wonder who enjoys learning about them. Cheers for the comment mate
I think this is great. There is a bit of a gap between astrophotography and astronomy. I also like the longer format. More theory, strategy, and perspective would be a great addition to the hobby.
@jongreen2362 great to meet you also! So that explains why my forecast is heavy rain and thunder this weekend then 😂 I'm tempted by a 103 triplet from Askar. Makes it sound like I have the money for it 😂
I liked that very much 👍. And yes, why not continuing with such videos from time to time ? And, in particular, I agree that for most people the Moon is the starting point to get interested in astronomy (although, then, at a later stage, this thingy might be annoying to them 😅) 🔭
I was going to just delete this, who cares, but, watched it. Your explanation of orbital mechanics was just what I needed to help explain this stuff to less techy people.
Great video, Ruzz and great to bump into you at IAS; as for the Supermoon. I see it as purely annoying hyperbole. I will not use the term. Of course, the event also renders most astrophotography useless. I do get questions of how do I best photograph it, single word answer don't - unless pictures of headlamps please you...😂
Cheers Tony! Yeah was nice to speak at IAS also. Hope you had a good day there. I agree it's certainly a bit of hyperbole. I don't entirely hate it. The Full Moon is nice to capture, but there's much more interesting phases to image during the month that garner greater details.
I don’t get this anti the name of supermoon, but okay. I photographed the supermoon before and it never got to me that it’s actually larger than normal, but the yesterday harvest supermoon was remarkably bigger than the photos I took earlier this year. That was the moment that I thought ‘it really is being a supermoon’. It’s much larger than normal because it’s ±50.000 km. closer to Earth. After watching the video I still do not understand why the name is bugging people. It’s just a name for the larger size of the Moon when in perigeum. If they had called it Fat Moon there would’ve been obese people who don’t like the name. So Super Moon, no problem whatsoever.
As I said on Stargazers, its click bait, immoral, ill-informed and misrepresents science. Adding to that - I get frustrated with people who think astrology and astronomy are interchangeable terms - Every full moon is not 13% larger and is therefore not a true 'super moon' as originally intended.

Great video, very informative and interesting results, be great to have some astrophotography vlogs and tips for us newbies!

Great video, well presented. People don't always appreciate the effort that goes behind making long format videos 👍
@mattskillett6622 thanks Matt. Yeah, even I didn't anticipate how much work this took to make 😅 cheers for the comment and glad you liked it

I enjoyed this video Ruz, really interesting and presented in a understandable way. Great job!
@Wheeljack678 hi mate thanks for the comment! Glad you enjoyed it and found it interesting. I'll be sure to do more in the future!
Nice one Ruzz, good to see you back on this! 👊🏽

Great to meet you at the IAS this past weekend, just thought I'd let you know all is going well with the monster 130PHQ 😅

@@AstroMaggus thanks mate glad you enjoyed it! Already got more astronomy related content in the works 💪
Loving the content. And I love saying "Supermoon" in a Geordie accent
Cheers mate! And hmm... I never considered how it may sound in a Geordie accent and I can now see your point!

@mikehardy8247 well I'm glad you didn't delete it Mike. Glad the explanation will help you with others 👍
Hi Ruzz great video my friend really enjoyed it
Thanks. Enjoyed it very much and I did photograph and video the Harvest moon yesterday.

same with occultations or parades or any other astronomical event that is very common, you start seeing too many media postings
I think Supermoon is overhyping a simple thing.
As I said on Stargazers, its click bait, immoral, ill-informed and misrepresents science.
