I believe creating a different set of "High Altitude Springs" would allow it to downshift completely where the air is less dense. Going to be flying at high altitude? Just switch the springs and go!
Wonderful work, I thought it would be years before seeing variable pitch propellers and yours is more a constant speed. For me and most para-motor pilots and your business, the big issue is noise. If we disturb people they complain, parks and other take-off areas are lost. If the problem gets big enough, legislation will reduce where we can fly. I have been thinking about zip-line drone's quiet propellers and wondered if two different diameter prop blades long-thin and short-broad could be used, both balanced to have the same angular momentum? If this broke the resonance of the prop blades it could be hugely quieter with very little efficiency loss. Once seeing your prop hub with the blades bolted in, I thought that would be perfect to test the theory. Quiet flying will keep our flying freedom. I would love to see you try this idea.

I'm not a pilot but one of my hobbies is building electronic circuits. A spring loaded system will need constant adjustment. A solenoid is not an option because it adds too much weight. l think a set of digitally actuated miniature gears that adjust prop pitch by rotating and latching to hold position is worth considering.
It's so good to see that your variable pitch prop is working well now! When I get more airtime, I'll certainly consider buying one for my Scout Enduro.
Amazing job miro.. but how about other motors? I guess it is possible to fly with other similar stuff with just spring preload setting. Just asking this because i know alot of pilots that fly polini motors as myself. I fly 190hf and power range is very similar to moster factory r but bolt pattern is different and it has longer stroke so it has about 200rpm less witch i think it would be adjustable by spring preload not weight. If you decide to test other motors just contact me and i can help with that.. Ps. Keep making world less boring

Such a great feeling when you can test and validate something is working as designed. I noticed your test device enclosure looks 3d printed. I really enjoy the process of using CAD to design and then print solutions on my 3d printer. It's so cool that technology like this exists and you can design and manufacture a solution in such a short time.

Hello Miro, what a great and promissing product. I hope very much, after finishing all tests and starting the serial production for the PPG the next adjustment of the variomatic prop will be for the ultralight trike family. If so, you have your firt customer, Merlin Trike BMW 1100. ;-) PS: Just made 2 weeks ago some prop readjustmens on my fixed pro, to test new pitch and I couldn´t belive how unbelievable great effect 2,5° has on it. Since then I´m totally convinced, we as trike pilots need also a very simple robust variable pitch prop. So hurry up. ;-))))

With these test LEDs, you should be able to climb to 10,000 feet just prior to sunset, then check RPMs for blade shift at 10k, then 8k, 6k, etc as you descend, then land before it gets too late. You can then try that again with different springs. Sell the prop with a set of springs, color coded for various altitude ranges. Maybe even different pre-loads on different springs (set of springs and screws). Having that LED setup would make doing those tests much easier. Just make sure the air pressure isn't vastly different between tests, since that would change things as well. Or, just set altimeter to 29.92" Hg, and base the tested altitudes on that. With a few weeks of testing, you could really dial in the springs.
This is so sick. Maybe you could have a set of two or three interchangeable spring pairs come with the prop for low/high altitude flying. Been following this project for a while, I would love to test this out. Very awesome to see some innovation in the prop department.
Hey Miro, could you do something like insert a washer under your spring to increase the force at low altitude and have it removable for high altitude flying?

Sub 70kg trikes are becoming very popular here in the uk therefore, it is likely that there will also be keen interest development this product. I myself would very interested as I'm sure there is little engine/load operating differences between the 2 types of flying.
Would love to build you a bluetooth module for your measurement system so you can record and read actual numbers on your remote phone screen instead of trying to spy some LEDs awkwardly. That said, a quick bodge that gets an answer is better than no data, nice work!

What about a spring setup that engages centrifically instead of relying on the resistance from the prop? Similar to how centrifugal clutches/ torque converters work on go karts?

The variomatic is in production now. We tried on the EFI but the engine did not work with this prop. Vittorazi has promised they will try to make a new fuel map special for this prop. Theoretically efficiency gains should add up although maybe not 1+1
What length is the prop overall? If this knocks the fuel consumption down towards Atom levels, this is definitely a contender for lighter comp pilots to get economy and power from the one unit. Do you have a retail price estimate for these?
@@LukasKuhelj I can’t imagine it’ll be too different to the moster version, possibly just the case of changing spring tension and blades. The benefit of the moster being more economical, for classic comps, would be that on eco tasks you’d be saving fuel but still be able to reach full speed with the higher power demands of the top end gliders. The Atom is economical but struggles to keep up with top end speed of say the Warp and Viper without sizing up thus loosing most of the benefit of having a high performance glider in the first place. An Atom factory 100cc or 125cc would be a nice all round engine.

Why would you want lower pitch at higher RPM and higher pitch at lower RPM? That seems like driving a car while stepping on the clutch and the gas pedal at the same time. You will spend more gas doing that.🤔🤞
Low pitch/high rpm equals best power/thrust for takeoff. High pitch/low rpm equals best efficiency for cruise. Low pitch is like low gear - best for getting going, and high pitch is like high gear - best for going fast.
