Winter Wonder Wiss - The Wiss at Its Snowy Best

  • There are few places in the area that are as good to ride after a significant snowfall as the Wiss. While the snow is falling, it can be a little tough once it's gets over four inches without a fat bike, but give it a little time and the terrain mixed with the high user traffic makes for a well packed and surprisingly grippy snowy trail tread that's a blast to ride on any mountain bike. Two years ago, when it was snow covered for nearly the entire month of February, it turned into an 18 inch wide ribbon of perfectly packed snow and was ripping as long as it was frozen. This video is from two days after the recent snowfall a couple weeks back, where we got about six inches. Conditions were great and we got a beautiful bluebird day to hit some frozen classics. Enjoy!

    The Wiss is the best for conditions like this. I find that with all the hikers, runners and riders the snow gets packed down so nicely. Great rip Sam.

      Thanks Sage. I rode the day before and it was already packed down really nicely the day after the snow. Definitely one of the upsides of so many trail users 😂😂

      So fun... We're lucky it gets like this so frequently when it snows

    That first hill you dropped down towards Forbidden was the first trail I ever rode down EVER. Grabbed my old Huffy from when I was a kid and PUSHED it up that hill (because the shifting didn't work) and then turned around and blasted down. By the time I got to the bottom I had two flats and the pads fell off the front brake. Was a short ride. Haha.

    See, I knew I should have visited at least valley forge park for a little snowy MTB adventure, but my riding buddies were not feeling it unfortunately. Super jealous it looks like so much fun in the snow!

    Those are perfect riding conditions for the snow. I ride the Wiss year round, but when it’s covered in snow out comes my fatbike.

      I used to have a plus bike that I'd use for fresh snow conditions, but recently I've just stuck with the trail bike after it's been packed down and don't miss the wider tires. Thanks for watching!

      @@PhillyMTB I ride a custom steel single speed plus bike 98% of the time. Lugging around on wider rims and 2.8” tires is getting old though, especially pedaling up Houston Meadow. I’m building a new wheel set now. Plus tires have their place but not on a single speed. 😂

    Perfectly packed. I'm jealous. Birdsboro was not packed at all when I went out. Still fun, but trudging...
    Were you able to pedal up or hike-a-bike? I really hope we get some more snow!

    • @PhillyMTB
      @PhillyMTB  ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm hoping for more snow too! We were able to pedal up everything except the Monster climb (although a couple in our group actually cleaned it). I'd guess Birds doesn't get enough traffic for good snow riding unless the snow sticks around for a while. Those trails would be sick though if they got packed down...

    Whoa! Wonder if the tires are Snow Tires or All Terrain? Please forgive me if this is common knowledge. 🤘👀👽👽👽

      @PhillyMTB  ปีที่แล้ว

      These are just normal tires...dhf/dhr. With the cold temps and packed snow there was tons of grip
