Numbers stations are cool and all, but I'm glad you're covering the more mundane unusual transmissions; its a lot more interesting when you can actually understand the transmissions.
Those were interesting. Brought back a few memories of similar things I've heard here in the states... A dozen of so years ago, there was a crazy old coot who lived near abouts to a civil & National Guard airport. He didn't have a laser, just a 3 million candle power hand held spot light, shining it at helos landing and taking off at night. When they found and arrested him, you'd have thought they had found an Al Queda cell. And before all the Federal agents went to encrypted P25, I listened to the U.S. Marshals on a manhunt in the woods for two hours. I think the best one I ever heard was a radio call to a patrol unit about 2-3 drunks knocking on some disabled woman's door demanding beer !
Back in the late 90’s I used to be able to pick up phone conversations my neighbors would have on the phone. They were a married couple who would fight and call each other names and all. I picked up these convos on my baby’s baby monitor.
In the late 70s or possibly early 80s I can recall that I tuned into a faint but audible transmission of a repeated phrase played on a church organ. The phrase lasted maybe 20 seconds, followed by a couple of seconds of silence. I recorded maybe an hour of it but sadly the tape is long since vanished. It was a beautiful haunting piece that I'd love to work into a piece of music myself. Does anyone remember it ?
When I lived up in New York,I would hear ppl ordering from a restaurant on my cellphone and house phone. And could hear ppl talking at the restaurant. It was an Arbys restaurant. Idk how our wires got crossed, but definitely strange, lol.
Interesting again. Although, the second one reminded me of the times I was on CB. All you heard there were arguments, threats, micpushing and similar rubbish. Keep up the good work. 73 de M6VMO.
interesting listening scanning the bands in the 80s and 90s could turn up interesting listening it's making me wonder what it's like these days and if it's worth investing in a scanner
I had a recording of a 45m freebander interfering with HF air traffic control, causing the controller to miss calls from aircraft and he was very confused. I wish I could find the file!
Poor Gerald...great clips, I have heard similar but never record them, the footage of the helicopters is superb!! im fascinated with helicopters when I see them up close, ive got some good footage of a seaking landing on a beach in cornwall.
I happened upon your channel and am enjoying it very much. I am a Cold War veteran, US Army, early 1980s. I was in electronic warfare/voice intercept. I was in tactical units, so I wasn't exposed to a lot of real world stuff, I encountered things while on field exercises. Most of those were from the the other team when we were playing war. Once in Fort Hood an artillery command went on a long exchange about what to do about coyotes surrounding an artillery battery. The men piled up on the guns and were afraid to come down and do their jobs. And they talked too much about it and we got a DF, and our forward unit got another. Bomb, out. F in Army. Artillery units are generally hard to DF because their transmissions are usually short and to the point. We could easily identify them, but not locate them.
Do you know if any recordings of Manchester Airport ATC from the 70s to the 2000s are available? I was flying in the area then and wonder if I'm recorded for posterity!
Good stuff my friend very much enjoyed listening to the weird communications there in the UK. Keep up the good work look forward to hearing more from you
The old antenna components and elements shown from time index 7:42 to 7:50, are they still there and where is that site? I am interested in purchasing those components for salvage and experimental purposes.
What/where is the tower you can see at 9:11? It’s amazing when you look at it when the cables are too thin to be seen on a picture. It gives it a bit of a sci-fi feeling. Great video.
Great video as always Lewis.Yes I remember G7ERX from many years ago.We met up at one of the Brighton Amateur Radio rallies many years ago.Nice chap too!.I can't understand why idiots would point lasers at aircraft but unfortunately it does happen. The Australian voice at the end sounds like that legendary radio presenter Alan Freeman..."Not arf mate"☺73 G7HFS/PA3IKH

In my past I used to make surveilance equipment up to 3/4 mile effective range usually using the quiet part of the aircraft band frequencies above 122 making sure 121.5 wasnt used for obvious reasons. I couldnt do that for too long. A I got fired for being too honest and B the people who were buying them scared the bejeezus out of me by who they were, who they worked for and what they did. This is interesting though.
How do you get these Transmissions. Are they recorded in a database somewhere? Does everything that gets broadcast over the Airways get recorded? If so who records it?
The Seattle Alaska Q400 airliner theft on a one way joy ride ,did a victory roll and survived before slamming into a small island taking his own life. His radio communications are disturbing to listen to.
lol, some hams don’t get it that you only call cq once, wait for a reply, and if not, don’t keep trying on that frequency for another 3 minutes. At the top of each hour and at the bottom of each hour, I observe a radio silence period of 5 minutes to allow distress transmissions because I’m a very considerate operator. Try it, you just might get quite a few friends, be a dick, and we just ignore you.
I am pretty sure i found a pirate radio broadcast. First heard it 21:00 eastern standard local time in USA on 5.130 MHz Lots of f-bombs in the music, audio samples from 1986 film noir movie "Blue Velvet."
Hi Would you have any advice as to were i could get a PTT server to operate a security company on our network please? Alternatively, how do i setup/ build a very secured self build PTT server.

Ringway Manchester Really? That’s interesting. When I first got into radio in the mid 90s he used to be on the various London repeaters and what with the jammers and squeaking going on, he would be in the middle of it having rows with other radio hams and saying that people were coming into his home when he was asleep and stole various times. I think he was a Japanese POW. I did have quite a few records of him, Gerald and various other radio hams from the days of GB3SL and GB3WL but I lost the tapes. I’ve searched high and low for them. Some very good shout up’s etc especially licensed stations putting on not so good squeaky voices and you could clearly tell who it was !
You've got some cracking videos going on pal. Really good work btw... However, were you and Ricky Wilson from the Kaiser Chiefs separated at birth? :-)

I am totally blind, and looking for a radio that will speak all of its prompts screens are useless to me! Any suggestions
The big companies (Icom, Yaesu, Kenwood) make separate voice modules for most of their radios of varying capabilities.
