Old Toby is the best pipe tobacco ever created. It has the most awesome room note, it has absolutely no bite, clouds of wonderful billowing smoke, and the taste is heavenly from start to finish. If you haven't tried it then order a couple ounces and you may find that it is your new "precious"

Funny story, I thought I tried this. But I forgot I never got around to it. It's been sitting in it's little baggie they send it in for over a year now. So I pulled it out tonight and looked up reviews, not only is it still moist but I actually had to dry it out. Man, The Country Squire sure know their stuff. They are quickly becoming my favorite tobacconist of all time. This tobacco is so good, it's unbelievable. I've never had a tobacco so good that I felt like I just entered the dream world. Well okay, to be fair I've had Plum Pudding but that tobacco is on a league of it's own.
Another excellent review. All of the country Squire Middle Earth blends are special and unique. I grew up near the Country Squire so I'm admittedly biased but I love everything about them from the history of the shop, which I feel like I was a part of from the first time I went in the store and met Mrs Reeves, to the amazing work Jon David has done throughout his tenure. Jon David should be applauded for the fantastic job he did maintaining the feel of the original shop when he expanded by moving a few doors down from the original historic location. He's grown the legend of the Country Squire in a way that Mr and Mrs. Reeves would be extremely proud of. Be sure to make a visit to the the shop if you're ever down that way and save an afternoon to hang out. The atmosphere is of the shop is pure nirvana for pipers. In the meantime listen to the weekly Country Squire Radio podcast...I think this season is going to be extra special.
I got the pleasure of visiting the Squire a couple of years ago. I picked up Bag End, Green Dragon, Shepard’s Pie, and Cherokee. Bag End and Green Dragon are my 2 faves, but everything they do is top quality. Great people also. Cheers and happy smokes!
I ordered the Middle Earth Series Sampler. It was one of the first tobaccos I’ve bought. I love every one of them. I have a hobbit style pipe I only smoke Old Toby in. Love it.
I just ordered Rivendell, Old Toby, and Second Breakfast yesterday. Can't wait to get them. I also plan on getting some pipes from Macqueen in the future. I want a collection of churchwarden pipes from them. My longest pipe so far is a Shire Cobbit Corn Cob Pipe, which I believe is 7.5 inches. I would love to have the 15 inch Wizard pipe.
It took me a while to warm up to Rivendell. I am not a big aromatic guy, so I was pushing my luck. I was intrigued by the Middle Earth series because of LOTR, so I rolled the dice and bought a few ounces of it and Old Toby. I immediately liked Old Toby, but the first few times I tried Rivendell, I really did not care for it. It had that "I'm smoking a candy bar" vibe. I put it in a jar for a while and eventually gave it a second whirl, and it has quietly grown on me. It's not as good as Old Toby, but I actually buy some more the next time I place an order the The Country Squire. Maybe I am becoming an aromatic guy...who'd have thunk it?
I tried old Toney after watching your video and LOVED IT! I now have Rivendell coming because the Old Tobey was so good. Thank you for your reviews and keep them coming.
awesome review , i got my RIvendell today and absolutely love that end note on the mid puffs of chocolate and almost walnut oil . it is incredible to say the least , got myself this order Rivendell - Parsons Blend - Bills Blend - Whatever??? - Second Breakfast , cannot wait to dig into more ! only have had the second breakfast and rivendell !

Rivendell is my favorite overall blend! First one that I tried from The Country Squire and it got me hooked. Shame I can't smoke any right now, still getting over Covid, so I'm just gonna have to watch this a couple of times to live vicariously through you lol. Really hoping they make another batch or two of Mirkwood, did not get a chance to try any myself.

My brother and I are both huge Tolkien fans and are really looking forward to this Middle Earth inspired tobacco as well the random aromatic blend the Squire sells. At $1.95 an ounce I couldn’t resist trying out the crazy blend.
I love Rivendell. Love the Country Squire. Smoking Rivendell right now, so returned to this video. I get a bit of more of a vanilla note when I smoke it too in addition to the nuttyness... there are coco notes but very light ones.

I've been really enjoying the Middle Earth series from The Country Squire. I really just got them, but I love the blend of airomatic with natural tobacco I'm getting. They are all such complex tastes to me and are pretty lovely. ( I haven't had the mordor one). Lots of flavor notes in the others. I haven't smoked them all enough to decide my favorite... but so far, I really like them. My review of the Country Squire as a buisness is that they are top-notch. 5 out of 5. They get stuff to you really quickly. I think my order may have actually been in the mail the day I ordered it and they are pretty communicative, too. Great tobacconist for sure!

Yes The Country Squire seems like a great place. Hope you get to visit there one day. Hopefully you have seen their channel and podcasts. I have thought about ordering from them. Yes I listen to their podcast often. The flavors here are much more vibrant and pronounced than a mild blend like Carter Hall to me, with that candied walnut experience that is really lovely. I think you’d like it if you gave it a try. :)
I think that Rivendell is my favorite of the Fantasy South blends. I'm not sure who this Riverboat Queen is... Oh well, I'm still going to lurk about Eriador with the other Dúnedain smoking this stuff.
Cool video man, I will definitely be purchasing from them in the future. We are lucky here in the states with all this amazing pipe tobacco, yet it seems even harder and harder to find around in any kind of stores other than occasional pipe stores. Maybe this will keep our pipe tobacco cheap? I sure hopes so cause cigarette taxes are very high haha. Great video! Good smoke

Hey Kevin, good review. I've not had Rivendell yet. I've had Old Toby, but found it too sweet and sticky. I mixed it with a VaPer, and it was much better. I ordered Mirkwood, Green Dragon, and Second Breakfast, but haven't tried them yet. It's awfully cold here in WV, so I'll be waiting for warmer weather before I try them.

Never tried their series of the middle of the earth. I’ve o my tried “Just for him tobacconist”. And let me tell …. Their Shortcut To Mushrooms is delicious! It’s the original blend made by the That many people fell in-love with. Have you where’d tried it? I also liked their “Longbottom Leaf” .👌🏼👌🏼

I would make no comparisons to either of those blends when it comes to this blend. It’s completely different. It’s exactly as this video describes, to me :)

I love Rivendell. Love the Country Squire. Smoking Rivendell right now, so returned to this video. I get a bit of more of a vanilla note when I smoke it too in addition to the nuttyness... there are coco notes but very light ones.
We are on the same page here…like I said, think white chocolate walnuts…

I've had them all. None are bad but there are standouts. I agree Rivendell is one of the standouts.

I've been really enjoying the Middle Earth series from The Country Squire. I really just got them, but I love the blend of airomatic with natural tobacco I'm getting. They are all such complex tastes to me and are pretty lovely. ( I haven't had the mordor one). Lots of flavor notes in the others. I haven't smoked them all enough to decide my favorite... but so far, I really like them.
My review of the Country Squire as a buisness is that they are top-notch. 5 out of 5. They get stuff to you really quickly. I think my order may have actually been in the mail the day I ordered it and they are pretty communicative, too. Great tobacconist for sure!

Yes I listen to their podcast often. The flavors here are much more vibrant and pronounced than a mild blend like Carter Hall to me, with that candied walnut experience that is really lovely. I think you’d like it if you gave it a try. :)

Cool video man, I will definitely be purchasing from them in the future. We are lucky here in the states with all this amazing pipe tobacco, yet it seems even harder and harder to find around in any kind of stores other than occasional pipe stores. Maybe this will keep our pipe tobacco cheap? I sure hopes so cause cigarette taxes are very high haha. Great video! Good smoke

Hey Kevin, good review. I've not had Rivendell yet. I've had Old Toby, but found it too sweet and sticky. I mixed it with a VaPer, and it was much better. I ordered Mirkwood, Green Dragon, and Second Breakfast, but haven't tried them yet. It's awfully cold here in WV, so I'll be waiting for warmer weather before I try them.

Not a big fan of white chocolate or walnut IRL, but I can see how both those would be good with the right tobacco. We definitely have to check them out! How are you getting a 50° day in January!? Here in Iowa, we’ve been lucky to get a 30° day this month!

What is the size and brand of the jars you use to store your tobacco? I just purchased Tombigbee and Riverboat Queen from the Country Squire yesterday.
The ones I usually show on screen are squat sized 8oz wide mouth Ball jars. Unfortunately these exact squat shaped jars I believe are discontinued
I smoked some Rivendell this afternoon. I liked it, but the nic crept up on me after I put the pipe down.
Ah, well just eat beforehand, and if necessary, stop and leave the last third of the bowl unsmoked

I would make no comparisons to either of those blends when it comes to this blend. It’s completely different. It’s exactly as this video describes, to me :)

Not for me no, but that’s personal to each person’s individual mouth chemistry and smoking technique. Every mouth reacts differently to a blend.
