    Awesome scene and they had a steamy romance in real life! We don't see movies like this anymore...this was a classy era!

      I understood R Young to be faithfully married? (I'm aware he had mental health issues re depression n drinking BUT never heard anything re being anything other than "straight/honest" in his relationships? (though his wife was extremely plain, they married young and I guess she supported his introvert nature - though both drank n had depression so fairly likely in reality that while "devoted" it was a co-dependent toxic relationship. What's ur source re his having had an affair? Its only by watching these old films I now appreciate he could act very well and had a broader ranfe than given credit for.

    Turner may not have been "best actress of her time", but she was incredibly underrated. She is superb in "Postman", "Johnny Eager", "Ziegfeld Girl", "The Bad and the Beautiful"...several others. Too bad her beauty, private scandals and bad movies override how great she is in the good films. Yes, I can name actors that are better, but I can name countless who weren't AS good (Veronica Lake, Cyd Charrise, Kim Novak, etc.).

    I agree. I wouldn't call Lana Turner the best actress of her time, but she certainly shows off her skills in this scene. I got my copy from Warner Archives and I was taking a risk bc I had never seen the movie. To my surprise and delight, it has become one of my favorite romantic comedies and subsequently one of my favorite Lana Turner movies.

    I own a dvd copy of this movie, specially made. It is a really fun movie. But this dance scene in this restaurant is one of the best scenes of all time. Lana Turner is so appealing! She is a really smooth and charming dancer, and she seems to move through so many wonderful areas of attraction and feeling. Just beautiful.

    Also, Robert Young is pretty hilarious. The scene where he's hanging from the balcony! What a nut! The ending of the movie has some cheesy moments, but besides that. So many nice moments. When she has to choose the toy from her childhood. That's the scene that my mom remembered and that made her have this dvd made. But this dancing scene. What a gem. Her laugh. And what she does with her hands when he's attempting his little shuffle. She's so natural. Would like to have dated her, haha.

    I've seen Grable's films, Toots, including "I Wake Up Screaming." I think Grable was an okay actress (very wise-cracking), a decent dancer and an underrated singer. But Turner proved her mettle in too many films, not the least of which, is "The Postman Always Rings Twice." Grable may have been "more natural" to you, Hon, but she couldn't top Turner's best dramatic work. 'Nuff said. So long.

    The tune is "Stompin' at the Savoy," a popular dance number of the time. Benny Goodman's instrumental version is best known, though I don't think this is it.

      'Stompin' at the Savoy" is a Harlem tune recorded by the Chick Webb Orchestra in 1934 while it was the house band at Harlem's famous Savoy Ballroom. The tune was composed by Webb's saxophonist, Edgar Sampson, who was later hired by Benny Goodman as a writer/arranger. When in New York, Lana Turner is known to have visited the Savoy Ballroom on many occasion and is credited with giving it one of its enduring nicknames, "The Home of Happy Feet."
      The Savoy Ballroom was renown as THE trend setter in swing and jitterbug dance venues. Many dances were originated, developed, and became famous there. It's resident dance troupe, 'Whitey's Lindy Hoppers" became exports to Broadway shows and Hollywood movies, such as "A Day at the Races," "Hellzapoppin'" and others. Hollywood's 1943 "Swing Fever," which made dancer Jean Veloz an International celebrity, was conceived on Savoy Ballroom dances.

    Sorry, disagree. Turner was sensational in several films, including her last big movie, "Madame X." I've never seen Grable given a comparable performance. So sorry.

    Nice to see Robert Young in a leading role. He was such a good actor , but mostly suck in supporting or parts he never go the girl at the end.

  • @garyb3397

    I agree that Grable was a better singer, but since Turner didn't sing AT ALL, that point is moot. I disagree that Grable was a better actor. Turner gave more and stronger performances. Grable also wasn't as pretty. But Grable was a much better singer than generally given credit for. I always liked the sound of her voice.

    Wonder why Lana Turner never posted naked?

    • @jamesdunn9714
      @jamesdunn9714 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Women didn't do that in that era, it could destroy their careers. Besides, they had class and kept their private lives private, not to mention they kept their privates private as well. If you want to see a "sort of" celebrity look up Kim Khardashian; she shows it all.Trash gal.

    • @andyusfca
      @andyusfca 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree Khardashian is a piece of trash. However, I think posing naked can be a piece of class act if do it in a right way in the 1940s

    • @jamesdunn9714
      @jamesdunn9714 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      andyusfca It could have been a class act,but the studio system didn't allow that sort of thing and careers could be ruined.
