- Join me for an adventure into a new public land spot where I harvested the prettiest wood duck I have ever seen. Even my Taxidermist wants it! Morning of a typical public land hunter in North Carolina. I take time to answer some questions folks have asked about my bands. Come along!
Got a banded gring wing last weekend in the beaver swamp i planted in rice and built your water control structure in. Bird was from Ontario Canada. Central nc
VERY COOL! Makes me so happy to hear. Pinned the comment
the spread is angled a bit wrong when all of the duck decoys are facing one direction the ducks think they are about to takeoff. but some of the time it will work. feeder decoys in that work super well.
Since this video I have actually tied two of the mallards in reverse, same with some of my wood ducks. Does look more natural in light wind
@@Yellowlab247_Outdoors ah couldnt see that.
Awesome woodie! I’ve been hunting ducks for 10 years and have yet to kill a wood duck, I don’t see many where I hunt.
Dont know where you are located, but come to NC! That is the state duck lol
Nice. Beautiful bird. Who cares what anyone else thinks about replacing your stolen bands. Thieves suck! Glad you can actually get replicas. Haters gonna hate. I just got into ducks this season at 62 years young. Loving it. I like your style. Keep it up and thanks for sharing. Sub'd
Thanks for the encouragement and for subscribing, means a lot!
I had a single like that real pretty one and I already had a flying pair on the wall so I had it mounted standing on a piece of wood for a desk top mount. To me the woodie is the prettiest bird with its colors. As for the bands, to me they are reminders of the hunt just like a deer mount. I hate that yours were stolen, but the duplicates serve the same purpose. So, funny story: we had a QDMA fundraising dinner and one of the drawings involved a bunch of wood duck bands. I ended up with the bands after the event. I'd say about 30 of them and I keep saying I'm going to put them on my duck call lanyard just as a joke, but I never have. I still have them in a baggie some where around here. I've never shot a banded bird of any species, but I sure would love to.
Good luck in your quest! Certainly not all about bands for our crowd but they are special
Man what a Stud. I’ve killed thousands and never seen one with the colors on the back like that! U just set the bar for what I want for a wood duck to mount
Thanks dude, same here! Like you said, killed endless amount of Wood ducks and have never seen one colored up like that. It is wrapped up in my freezer for safety. Promised my Taxidermist he could have it (he asked) but we shall see.
Cool new spot, great looking spread!
Simple and real!
Next season we should do a kayak hunt together
Thought about putting something together for some local subscribers. Cant do it on my private, would have to be very selective on my public so as not to ruin any good spots (you know the deal). Keep following along and commenting
I'm waiting for a woodie like that to mount. Luckily there are plenty around here in center NC. Nice one!
I actually gave this one to my taxidermist, he is working on a log with 8 on it and has me saving him some studs. Good luck in your search, this is the time of year for them!
@@Yellowlab247_Outdoors Hello good videos i have hunting videos on youtube
Sweet!
Quality not quantity, right?
Absolutely... We went this morning and never fired a shot but seeing the mallards circle was worth the price of admission. @@Yellowlab247_Outdoors
@@Yellowlab247_Outdoors Right.
I used to bass fish ponds all around Greensboro i remember seeing those neck banded geese alive paired up on a pond by the airport
Yes! I did pond management and would see them everywhere. I have to imagine most of the neck collared ones have died by now, that was circa 2008-2015
I got into duck hunt 3 years ago but I have only been able to hunt 2 seasons but I'm from Arkansas but live in NC and would love to start hunting here but the only thing is that I am still a residence in Arkansas
NC is VERY different from Arkansas from duck numbers, to public access, hunt dates, you name it. Read up on all our regulations, some lakes are only 3 days a week so you have to really know your regulations. No Sunday waterfowl hunting!
What part of the state is this in? Not looking for exact spot. Just curious if you’re near the coast or more central. I’m by Wilmington area
Very much Central. Thanks for asking politely!
To me a wood duck is the prettiest of them all
Agreed! So many colors. Killed my first pheasant recently and it rivals a wood duck for color, my gosh. Short of it on my channel
Looks like you got a full choke in? What kind?
What part of nc do you hunt
Honestly, all over but mostly Central NC > Coast
Can I have one of those wood ducks
It’s safely wrapped in my freezer, how much money you got ! Lol holding on to this one
