Did you guys know the Vietnam War really kicked off after WWII? Vietnam wanted independence from France, but France wasn’t having it. After a big battle in 1954, Vietnam split into communist North and non-communist South. The U.S. stepped in to stop the spread of communism, sending military help, and by the 60s, it escalated into a full-blown war!

As a Vietnamese I have to clarify that Viet Minh defeated France in Battle of Dien Bien Phu (1954) that gained indepence for Vietnam. Their flag is the one with a big yellow star and red background and it’s also our flag now 🇻🇳.
I can hear the France ball in your video said “enjoy your freedom while you can Viet Minh” so the dialogue is correct but NOT THE FLAG. I hope you notice this
(Also there is a confusion in this video. The Democratic Republic of Vietnam 🇻🇳 was established by Ho Chi Minh after the Declaration of Independence in 1945. The flag with red stripes and yellow background was used twice. First it was the flag of the State of Vietnam which was a France’s puppet state created in 1949 by France. After 1954 it was used as South Vietnam’s flag)
Pretty sure that was the flag of Vietnam while communist, then they changed it

This video is got it WRONG from the very beginning. By the time the Viet Minh defeated the French in 1954, the official flag of Vietnam had already been the red flag with a ("chubby") golden star. From 1955, that flag was replaced by a newer version with a more refined star that you see till this day.
From as early as 1941 (the year when the red flag with a golden star was first introduced), Viet Minh was the only entity representing the Vietnamese people fighting against the illegal occupation of the French colonialist for national independence, followed by the creation of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam in 1945, the official independent state of Viet Nam. The red flag with a golden star has been officially the national flag of Viet Nam ever since.
On the other hand, the golden flag with 3 red stripes was first used by the Provisional Central Government of Vietnam in 1948, later adopted by the State of Vietnam (1949), then finally by the Republic of Vietnam (1955-1975). The first 2 entities were the puppet states of the French Union while the last one was the puppet state of the US.
This is either a fatal flaw, or an attempt to spread disinformation. I kindly request correction and respect to the history and people of Viet Nam!

You have used the wrong flag, the 3-striped flag is the flag of the Republic of Vietnam, used by South Vietnam in 1954 and they have never been able to expel the French colonialists and the Republic of Vietnam forces in the South ( also known as Viet Minh) never used a 3-striped flag, they used a half-red, half-blue flag with a yellow star in the middle and the North Vietnamese flag is the flag we are using today. Next, the image of the burned Buddhist is describing the event in June 1963 when a monk self-immolated to protest the southern republican regime named THICH QUANG DUC. At least this channel did it better than most other channels by mention it was temporarily separated, and reunification elections were canceled. Other channels never mention this fact.
Also
Some facts I want to add here:
1. Vietcong isn't a real name created by the Vietcong, but a slang to call the National Liberation Front army. They call themselves the Liberal army, but the US and South Vietnam don't want to call them by that name, so they give them a nick name Vietcong instead.
2. 50% of Saigon population were Chinese.
3. Despite made up 8% of the population, 85% of Chinese living in wealthy part of Saigon, and the Chinese control 80% of South Vietnam GDP.
4. Most of the people support South Vietnamese government were Chinese, 90% of South Vietnam population didn't get to vote.
5. After 1975, boat people and re-education camps were mostly ethnic Chinese.
At least this channel did it better than most other channels by mention it was temporarily separated, and reunification elections were canceled. Other channels never mention this fact.
Also Vietcong was a name given by South Vietnam to the NLF army also called the Liberal army, not by North Vietnam. North Vietnam never call them Vietcong.

I would have tried to include that ho chin min was a pro USA Communist, because the USA supplied the most weapons to his resistance and the fight against japan. he even included the US Declaration of independance in his declaration. he wrote multible letters to the USA and like barely had contact with the Soviet union. But great video!
@@cooler_boi_patrick3989 Where did you read that? It seems like most communists automatically hate the US. It would be a very interesting read to me if you could, thanks.
@@cooler_boi_patrick3989 But in Vietnam war we hate America. Because, during World War II, the United States and Vietnam were on the same side (Allies) and the US President (Frankin D. Roosevelt) supported the independence movements of nations around the world, but then, the new US President Harry S. Truman did not care much about the independence movements of nations around the world. Although declaring anti-colonialism, the US was neutral with French actions in Indochina. But... the Cold War had begun. In 1950, the Chinese civil war ended with the final result belonging to Mao Zedong's Communist Party of China. The People's Republic of China was established and no one else, they were the first state to recognize the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, the Soviet Union later did the same. 1 year later, the conflict on the Korean peninsula broke out. Between North Korea following the Communist ideology and South Korea following the Capitalist ideology, and North Korea struck first, pushing South Korea to the brink. Realizing that the Communist wave was spreading, Truman proposed the Domino Theory, the Chinese Domino had fallen, if Vietnam fell into the hands of Ho Chi Minh, it would be the first step for the whole of Southeast Asia to fall into the hands of the Communists. The East Sea held a high strategic position, the US did not want to lose it, but its close allies here, so it was no longer neutral. Immediately, the United Nations army led by the US immediately joined the war to reverse the situation and save South Korea on the Korean peninsula, China felt threatened and also joined the war to help North Korea. In Indochina, the US approved aid packages for the French Colonialists, essentially to prevent Vietnam from becoming a Communist state. From here, the Vietnamese people who had had feelings for the US turned to hate the US because they supported the exploitative colonialists.

I have to correct sth:The first Vietnam in the video must be Democratic Republic of Vietnam (Red and yellow star flag). DRV had been established by Ho Chi Minh in 1945 and defeated France in 1954 to get freedom and then, Vietnam and France signed Geneve to divide Vietnam into North and South with a promise that North Vietnam would unite with South Vietnam peacefully. (Soviet Union didnt care about Vietnam until 1950) so the division in the video is wrong(not like the division of Korea). And also at that time, USA established Republic of Vietnam as a puppet leading by a dictator to prevent Democratic Republic of Vietnam from uniting. (We didnt want war but the "freedom" and "humanity" of USA which always considers itself as a peace country had destroyed all.😢) Fun fact: USA helped Vietnam by providing CIA agents to training Vietnamese soldiers to fight against France.

This is not the Vietnam War, it is Vietnam's national liberation struggle
This is wrong on so many levels. Firstly you represented the French Puppet or the State of Vietnam as a sole representation for the South Vietnamese people (of which is false). The SV didnt have actual power. Meanwhile the Viet Minh or the DRV had actual support from the people of the South (and the whole nation). There for the rightful representation for the Vietnamese people should have been the DRV. Secondly, the flag of the south Vietnamese communists should have been the NLF flag. The NLF had its own party, organization... which was ran by the Southern Vietnamese. Thats why in 1975, it was the NLF flag that was hung in the Independence palace rather than the DRV flag. The southern Vietnamese liberated themselves.
Edit: Sorry I missed this but in the Geneva convention of 1954 of which all agreed (which included the DRV but not the SOV which supported what I said above) Vietnam wasnt going to be split (of which in the Video it was). There was a planned general election in 1956. Which the US stopped and formed the ROV.
Although the production quality is high but the lack of proper research makes this video so inaccurate. As a south Vietnamese myself, I suggest making corrections on the comment sections or the description.
They also got the Vietcong background wrong in 4:07 , North Vietnam never call them Vietcong, they call them the NLF and the Liberal army. Vietcong was a given name by South Vietnam to the NLF.
As a Vietnamese, I would like to say that you should learn more about our country's history before making videos like this. Honestly, I feel like my country's history is being insulted by the distortion of this video.
Before talking about the Dien Bien Phu victory in 1954, we must recall 1945. On September 2, 1945, Emperor Hirohito officially signed the document of unconditional surrender to the Allies. On the same day, Vietnam declared independence from Japan (not France). President Ho Chi Minh read the declaration of independence at Ba Dinh Square (Hanoi) under the flag of the Viet Minh revolutionary army (similar to the current national flag of Vietnam 🇻🇳). And that yellow flag with three red stripes in the video was originally the flag representing the puppet government of France given to former Emperor Bao Dai (Nguyen Dynasty) as head of state. In 1946, France invaded Vietnam (it can be said that it was the second time), re-establishing a puppet government with the yellow flag with three red stripes in the places France occupied. The Vietnamese people fought against the French until 1954, the year of the Dien Bien Phu victory, when France lost and had to withdraw its troops. And the victory flag raised high at Dien Bien Phu was this flag🇻🇳, not that yellow one.
After France lost, America jumped in, interfering in the election in Vietnam, dividing the country into two factions. Then there is what you call the "Vietnam war", but the Vietnamese people call it the resistance war against American invasion. And the people you call "Vietcong" are the revolutionary organization of the people of South Vietnam who rose up against the US and the puppet government of the Republic of Vietnam.
I didn't have the patience to watch your entire video (the first seconds gave me the feeling that my country's history was being insulted). Sincere advice, you should delete this video. If you have made content about history, then do it right, because if you make wrong information, it will lead to misunderstanding about history, which is very harmful.
Dude, you have mistaken, you must change the VietMinh flag before the Vietnamese invade this video.

@@MrSpherical In my opinion, you should separate the red flag with yellow star from the three-striped flag and have the red flag with yellow star defeat France, while the three-striped flag just stands there and watches. That would be more historically accurate.
Fun Fact: One of my family members fought in the war
4:07 is wrong. North Vietnam give them the National Liberation Front, and call them the Liberal army, they never use the name Vietcong. Its the US and South Vietnam give them the name Vietcong cause they don't want to call them the National army.
