You could do with a rain cap on that exhaust now its in "vertical-boy-racer" mode ;)

If you get a 4 inch paint roller and use covers with the least nap you can find (not foam ones) do this: thin down the oil based paint a little and paint metal with that. You will get “factory finish” results, trust me. I used to refurbish vending machines this way and they came out great. With a 4 inch roller it’s easy to get into the nooks and crannies. All the best. Try it, you will be surprised.👍

Kris, you might like to fit a flapper onto the exhaust to keep out the rain, or maybe just stick a bean tin on top. Works on tractors. Oh and that is a great bit of kit you've built yourself. Very well done, it looks the business.

I was thinking he should make that exhaust pipe reach higher. A flexible ventilation pipe would do. Standing beside that exhaust wont be fun the day the wind comes from the wrong direction and you have to turn the mill around to avoid the fumes. And a flapper or can on top is a good idea.

Hey Kris. I've been running a Norwood band mill for almost 20 years, and it is very similar to what you've built there. Great job, by the way! I would recommend that you weld on a push handle for yourself to push the carriage while milling, and put the throttle on that handle as well. Excited to see it in action.

A round bar for a handle with a spring loaded motorcycle throttle would probably work great and being spring loaded it will idle unless your hand is on the throttle might add an extra level of safety for the commenters you were telling the cat about. 😉

Kris I remember the day's before all of this and you was living in a tent while you were building your roundhouse for yourself and your then girlfriend and you telling us all how you had worked upon building site's etc.
Now looking at what you've achieved over the past few years its pretty astonishing as most of it was done with very little or no help whatsoever!!!
You would never believe that you don't have a background in engineering !!! Thinking about it honestly engineering should have been your job as your pretty damn good at it.!!!
The woodmill is going to need a name....how about Dorothy's Demon 😈!!!
When you start upon your journey to build your forever home with Dotty this mill is going to save you a bloody fortune so well done on thinking ahead 👏 😀
    As always buddy 💯% 👍🇬🇧.

Looks great. I suggest that you relocate the water drip to the outside of the blade guide so that it doesn't eat into your cutting width. It looks as though the blueing on the guide rollers hasn't held up. You'd probably have better results by heating them and quenching in oil.

Hello. From the States. One tip that may help you save Gas and electric , would be to stitch weld. Make a series of 25mm welds about 50mm apart. It will hold just as well and save time and material. I have welded for over 30 years. I hope this may help you. Liked, shared. All my best.

    Hey Kris
The Bandsaw Mill looks AWESOME! Time to put it to the test and get the blade biting into some hardwood. So, time to start cutting timbers to sit and dry out in preparation for the house? I'm looking forward to the next video, I wanna see a nice stack of wood cut and drying.
Hey, are you going to build a Kiln so you can Kiln dry wood? That way you can control the time it takes to dry, but also keep the wood from drying too quickly and splitting. If you did build a kiln you could also use it to dry different types of foods for preserving them, so a kiln would have a use other than drying wood. Just an idea!
    Keep Safe All,
Peace, Happiness, Love and Laughter Always,
    Matt - Toronto, Canada

That mill is built like a tank.. Awesome work. That mill will perform like a completely different animal after its broke in and you get the RPMs up. I think the sawmill trailer i built is around 23 feet from bow to stern light... every time i move it i drop a string line down my rails to ensure a strait shot with the sled. Being that your angle iron (rails) are different you might drag a line down your log beds then adjust. Fast an easy... I usually mill up say 4 logs then add the drops (slabs) of similar sizes 6 at a time if possible standing up on the mill and debark them with a quick pass. All that 1xs add up fast

Bolt a couple of pieces of wood to the back corners as skid blocks then in future you can just plough on without worrying. Little things like that will make it really useable, but then maybe you never plan to move it much. Next up, a shed for it and a log deck....we don't ask much.

One of my tricks is a second valve (a quick one, like a ball valve) inline with the needle valve. Lets you get a nice steady water feed setting and just flip it on and off without overthinking things. There's so much to pay attention to when running a mill that anything that makes it easier is worth it (at least in my experience).

    • @hypnolobster
      @hypnolobster 3 ปีที่แล้ว

Side note, it's crazy easy to put a 12v solenoid valve inline and wire it to a future power feed too. No more accidentally leaving the water on/forgetting to turn the water on.

Awesome. I have a Woodland Mills HM122 and I love it. I recommend you do 2 things. Connect your throttle, which turns your blade, to you water output to save water in the reservoir. You can also add windshield washer fluid to it for the cold. Second, attach a hook to where the sawdust comes out so you can hang a bucket to catch the sawdust when cutting. It becomes a real mess without a bucket to catch the sawdust. Congratulations!

Hey Kris, Very impressive build, i've enjoyed the progress videos. Just one thought, where the band saw re-enters the guard, will you have a means for the chips to escape? I think perhaps over time it may build up in there. Another thought is maybe to cut horizontal slits and then bend the top of slit inwards, and bottom outwards to create a weather proof vent for heat and dust. You could also attach very small fins on the large pulleys to create air movement, like a fan. It would help to vent the guard section of heat, dust, and possibly chips.
Just a thought, i'm sure you've thought through that already and dismissed it until you know for certain if there is any issues.
Good on you for all you've created there, you and Dot, fantastic stuff.
    Cheers from Ontario!

Wow you take a problem and master it! Great result it looks the part can't wait to see it cutting wood.
I hadn't realised until now how the blade runs on the deive belt and the spacer belt on the other side, very clever, it keeps everything inline nicely!
