    Thank you for posting these videos. I would call that black plastic piece a "Stand Pipe". It's there to ensure you have the correct amount of fluid in the trans at 35-45 degrees C. You should've returned the stand pipe, then using your adapter, over-fill the trans, then start it up, let the trans fluid come up to 35C, then remove the adapter and any excess fluid above the stand pipe will drain out, leaving a very precise amount. It appears it was overfilled before you, because of how much fluid came out when you removed the first plug. I don't know why all the fuss about the level. I just bought my first car with DSG. I will be doing the same job soon. Thanks again.

    I have used the top fill method. You have to budget about 2.5 hours but its pretty straight forward enough to do just measure what comes out when you release the plug and put back in. About 4.5 litres. When you start car remain in park and run thru the gears a couple of times. Good to go
    Not in Canada so don't have to contend with the snow on the ground
    Ps kit costs about 130 here in the states FCP or IDparts

    Fill from the top after refitting snorkel and sump plug pour it in the top with a squeeze bottle with all 5 litres in the kit, refit new filter and replace cap, start and run through all gears before driving, no mess or fuss. After a professional service I drained out just over 5 litres which is the correct fill amount. Also the battery and tray can stay in place the filter cap is just offset under battery tray but accessible with 24mm socket still. Every third engine oil change this should be done ✅ total cost 120 Australian rupees 😊

    I doubt there are any standard SAE sized bolts anywhere on that vehicle. Everything is metric, you just found an SAE size that was close.🤔 Towards the end; you leave the snorkel in, run the motor, shifting through the gears. Get the temp up to 35 deg. Remove the "fill" plug and any excess drains out. You are now at the proper fluid level. Yes, stupid way over just having a dip stick, but, well, it's German made, so there's that.

    • @doserdiesel
      @doserdiesel 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I appreciate your insight. Like I said in the video the pump I used lost so much fluid and then Forgot to put the snorkel back in Like you said. Opinions matter I get that this trans change didn't work out like I planned. But people can do these on their own and not get Screwed by VW.

      My mechanic did the same thing as in video - drained the old oil, put in 6L new oil (from top), changed the filter, but didn't drain the excess oil at the end, as you suggested.
      I'm now afraid that I have over 6L of oil in the gearbox, because it is impossible to drain all the oil, there is always at least 200-300g of old oil left in the gearbox...
      And everyone says that the maximum should be around 4.8-5L.
      Is it dangerous to drive a car with so much oil in the gearbox? Thanks for your reply!
