  • We recently visited this Kaga government level preserved/protected old village in the mountains of Ishikawa - it's called Ozuchi-machi. It's truly a place that time has forgotten. It's not even 20Km from the nearest major highway and a population center of nearly 100,000 people, but is hidden away up in the mountains and is almost completely deserted, EXCEPT for ONE man who was born and grew up in this village, but then left for many years, and then decided to come back to live there and farm his family's land - he even still makes charcoal (the old-fashioned way!), which is what this village used to do 100 years ago. Only a couple weeks later we were invited back to Ozuchi for a BBQ lunch with one of the local families who still lives here in the summer months (winters are very, very hard here). It was a truly memorable experience! #foreignerinjapan , #ishikawa , #kominka , #yamanaka , #japan , #ruraljapan , #japaneseculture , #bear , #bears , #japanlife , #japantravel , #japanesefood
