You should try putting darks and lights underneath for your shadows and highlights let them dry completely then paint on top and use a thin piece of metal like an the back of an exacto knife to do some hatching.
I've used house paint on canvas. It's a great background color on the cheap of you have a large space for one time. Evidently there's an order of operations here, and if you don't follow it, you risk the painting peeling. Housepaint always on the bottom, oil on top.

Those round pieces of wood kind of inspired me to do some tabletop rpg stuff. Maybe a call of cthulhu emblem! Oooh possibilities. P.s. the painting came out great.

I've used sai since 2013 and I would def say it is. I think Echo uses procreate and Photoshop, so I don't know how much she knows about Sai. But, I've used both Sai and photoshop and if you only want to create art for fun and as a hobby (i'm saying this because Photoshop is a industry standard, you have to pay for it every month I think tho, but you only have to pay for Sai once, also you can use the license on multiply computers), I would def recommend it. If you haven't already used it, Sai offers a free 30 days trial, so you can try out the program. If you don't feel like it's worth it there are some free art programs out there! I love Sai, so I might be bias, but you should try it out, good luck!!

The clearance paint section is a good hit! Plus 30 points for that. Yes their brushes suck for detail... and house paint comes in different finishes. High Gloss, Gloss, Semi-Gloss, Eggshell, Satin, Matte, Flat ect. I try to stay away from all forms of Gloss. Hardware store Challenge? 5 gal bucket makeover. *evil laugh and sinks away*

Back when I was studying art I got about half of my supplies from hardware stores because it's cheaper than from art-stores. Like I sometimes bought cheap canvases from hardware stores, sometimes I just bought pasteboard because it's cheaper, I also bought very cheap pig-hair brushes of a bunch of sizes (not as pretty as the ones from art-stores, but who cares?). Paint is also cheaper, but you have to also buy turpentine and oil to give different qualities to the paint. Being poor teaches you things :)
Home Depot has mini plastic cans of Behr Premium for about 5 bucks with tax. About the size of jar of cheese dip. A lot of paint for a little money. Screw top lid. All the wonderful Behr colours.

Home Depot has those round wood pieces (table tops, I guess?) for less than Lowes (I used one for an acrylic pour).
I think they are mostly intended to be stool tops. But I suppose you can use for anything you might need wood for.

Best compass I ever purchased was a no-frills brass compass meant for use in wood working. It'll last forever and cost one dollar.

luminesse air has a cheap air brush thing for a total of $27 which is wayyy cheaper than buying an air brush paint set on ebay
