Why use pounds if a liter is one kilogram ?

Is a higher volume board always more stable? I'm wondering if it becomes more unstable as it sits more on top of the water compared to more in the water. I weigh 70kg and am considering between 105 and 115 L downwinder board.

Hi Dan, generally it is, up to a point. Volume aids stability as if you're board is sinking a lot it gets very hard to balance on (I've ridden a 96L and can attest to that). Too much volume can cause a board to be tippy if too much board sits above the water. But typically you need to go up quite a bit in volume and how tippy the board is also really depends on the shape of the board as well. I tend to work off the rule of thumb of 1.3-1.4x weight on board for volume up to 1.5xBW if learning. Sam is 75kg (165lbs) and riding a 100L (1.33 x BW) and I'm 78kg riding 105 (1.35 x BW) but you could probably add some neoprene weight for both of us as well which would lower our ratios (I wouldn't copy our ratios as we have been downwinding a bit longer, but sharing just for reference).
For 70kg 105L would put you at 1.5x bodyweight and sounds about right to me.

Great video, thanks. Has anyone tried going wider, say 24" on an 8'+ board?

How much does a 100L apple tree DW board weigh?

Thx a lot for the Descriptions. Can you tell me what I should change or adapt if I do have consistently too much pressure on my back foot? Mast-position? Shim? Riding a KT 8.4 with SABfoil Leviathan (1150) with 215 pounds. I would really appreciate a recommendation. Xxx

Hi! I am not super familiar with the Sab series but I would recommend moving the mast a little farther forward, a little bit goes a long way. You can use a base plate shim to fine tune feels but you should try to find a place in your tracks where you feel comfortable in weight distribution between your feet before adding in a base plate shim. Let us know if this helps!

The description is not very clear and confusing, I stopped watching halfway through.
