Quiting dairy, SO TRUE 😢 I love cheese and many other dairy products. 1. Quit Dairy 2. Cut out gluten and certain grains 3. Quit Processed junk food 4. Quit high fat 5. Quit high sugar 6. Quit food that triggers sensitivity ( temporary elimination diet) 7. Spicy food, garlic, yeast, spices, vinegar, fermented foods. 8. Alcohol (wine) 9. Beverages ( kombucha), lemon water, etc. 10. Quit condiments ( especially store bought) 11. Food triggers go to same place on the body over and over 12. Keep a food journal
Thanks for sharing your journey, Christine! One of my triggers was silicones and anything that sat on top of the skin to trap the body's natural process of purging oils, sweat, and dead skin. I was doing the work on the inside, but as soon as I cut those out the cystic acne went away and never came back. It's difficult to navigate around the standards of the beauty industry and I don't think they want people to know how much the products they sell work against our intentions.
Thank you so much for this video!!! 💕💕💕I am a 50 year plant-based eater (mostly whole foods) and have been for about 5 years (100% at home and about 85% outside of my home). I have had acne for years. I think it improved after I cut out dairy, but it is still very much there. Your video helped to explain why I get acne pretty much the same location on my face each time. I eat rice and oats five or more times a week and I love spicy foods. I cut out adding spices to my food about two weeks ago when I saw one of your videos. I’m not sure if that is one of my triggers or not. But I think I will start with eliminating oats first for a week and see if my skin responds positively and then eliminate oats and rice for the next week and so on. Thanks again!!🎁🎁🎁
Spices do not cause acne. Please consult a doctor before wasting your time on pseudoscience. I had cystic acne for 15 years before I finally found out it was caused by a hormonal imbalance. I've been completely clear for nearly five years now.
It could be b12 supplements. That was what caused my occasional cystic bump. My diet was perfect, WFPB, no oil for years and I still got them. I figured out it was b12...1 out of 10 people it can cause an excess of bacteria in the skin. When I avoid b 12 my skin is flawless. But that also made me have to adjust my diet to get b 12 from foods. Just something to look into.
Also! One of the best very simple easy things that helps skin, with redness and texture and etc, is simply... sunscreen! Using sunscreen daily on my face makes my skin look so calm and even. And I don't follow any certain diet. Guess the thing to take away is just keep it simple, and then yeah... of course use moderation on foods that may upset your body. 💌 (also worth noting talk to your doctor if you think you have any sensitives and whatnot, if you can, before eliminating tons of things)
Christine...I was 100% whole food plantbased, no oil, perfect diet for years and still had the occasional cystic bump...1-2 , thankfully not all over. I figured out it was b12 supplements. I can not tolerate them at all, 1 out of 10 people this can be an issues because it causes excess bacteria in the skin. Anyway, this was the case for me. I’ve adjusted my diet and stay off of supplements and my skin never has an issue. It’s sad to me that b 12 was the culprit because I really want to eat plantbased...I’m still mostly but now have tuna, salmon, other seafood like clams(very high in b 12)...so that’s my story. My derm said that all of the b vitamins can cause acne in some people.
I started watching your channel back in 2015 and yours was the first exposure I had to a plant based diet. Since then I've learned so much about the diet, eat much healthier than I did previously, and it's made such an impact on my life. Thank you for putting this information out there!
That's amazing to hear Ashley! Taking control of our health is such a rewarding journey, thank you so much for all of your wonderful positivity and support over the years! I really appreciate you! 💖
Never had cystic acne, but what finally healed my skin was turning to normal skincare and not relying on Sephora and their cosmeceuticals. CeraVe cleanser, a gentle chemical exfoliant and SPF totally saved my skin and my wallet. Def not perfect, but MUCH better. Usually less is more and skincare is no exception
@@LuceroDelgado-ip3oi when I wrote that I was using Paula’s Choice several days a week (it doesn’t sting or peel). And now I use the lowest strength tretinoin and Paula’s Choice once a week or so.
I wish I had this video in high school. I had such horrible skin, and it caused me so much embarrassment. Doctors would prescribe me harsh medications and it only made things worse. I love the thought of treating the body from the inside out with nourishing foods.
Thank you for this information and I truly admire your ability to quit so many foods causing you pain- that is hard to do, but I know when you are dealing with something so painful it is worth it! I love your channel and you are gorgeous and such an inspiration!
You can watch Dr Dray. Her videos on skin care and knowledge of ingredients, being a certified dermatologist is just awesome. Plus, her no nonsensical approach towards the subject and her own upright character makes it more genuine.
I had a skin problem too. What helped me the most was not combining bakery products with dairy products. My doctor informed me that this irritating skin issue affects many people. Solving this by avoiding dairy is not necessary, you lose the chance to get a lot of protein and great things from it. On the other hand, bakery products are not staples in nourishment. So I skipped bread and other similar products and my problems disappeared.
I've found that eating clean works best for me. I still cheat and pay for it but I just keep trucking on. Also a daily turmeric mask and a 500mg turmeric supplement helps alot
Very interesting and thorough video. Your videos always educate me but also give me hope that I can improve my health. Years ago, you shared the use of a dry brush for lymphatic massage and that did wonders for reducing the swelling I had in my right leg. I followed your yoga suggestions. Your videos about green smoothies and fruit smoothies have been inspirational. Thank you for sharing your experiences and highlighting that these changes are lifestyle changes and take time to accomplish. I recently tried to add oatmeal back into my diet and my body reminded me that oatmeal is not for me. All the best to you, Christine and Michael, and to those you love.
Many in the chat disagree w/ Christine, but all of you have to realize she's doing what's best for her body/health. Many don't want to try pharma solutions. That's great. Many of us have food sensitivities/allergies. It's not obsessive at all to care greatly for our health!
I had exactly same experience with milk products! My acne started at 19 and they were red, deep under skin and painful. I stopped dairy at 26 and they stopped showing up. After 15 years I take very small amounts of milk products, but mostly eat vegan. Like you I believe no skin product can fix if we don’t eat well. By the way love your recipe for carrot apple pineapple juice! 😊
Thank you Christine for sharing! I've been doing these tips and I'm still trying to go off cheese to help with the eczema (not acne) and it WORKS. All of these affect the skin and I work in the skincare world. I usually start off by asking people what they're eating and they look at me like I'm crazy. I tell them that their skin is their gut turned inside out.
Thanks for this video , Christine! I’ve always loved and got so much inspiration from you, especially regarding diet and health! ❤ i recently learnt i cannot eat onions and garlic, so sad when you can’t eat things you love but wow the difference when you do cut out these things is amazing
Thank you for sharing. I have autoimmune diseases, but besides dry skin no skin problems. But I do have a lot of problems with almost all foods you mentioned minus the lemos and healthy fats. Further more I can't eat bananas, soy, eggs!! Big one for me. And legumes. I do eat beef but it's the only meat I eat. I might eliminate more foods or supplements. Why is nutrition so complicated? 🙄 hope to see more videos soon.
Hey Christine, you are looking so good! I have watched you since your maiden voyage on TH-cam, Pink So Foxy? I have your jewelry, treasures! Not sure why but I haven’t kept up with you even while keeping my subscription to your channel. You are beautiful! Still!!! Grateful I found you again, pray Michael is swell. Christine, I'm so happy for you that you found what works for your skincare and eliminating the acne!! I wanna eat some of your recipes, for health and to get to a better weight. Thx again! 😊💕🌵🥑🍊🍑
Hi! How did you know lemon causes the breakout unless that’s all you ate all day? I think backing that up with some research on the correlation between lemon and acne would have been helpful!
She stated that her personal experience was that she would breakout when she consumed lemons. She would journal what she ate and test with eliminating foods. She gave that as a personal experience of what is a healthy food but one that she cannot consume. I hope that helps to clarify her point.
She is sharing her personal experiences, like she expressed clearly in this video. So no, there is no science to back this up. Do your own homework if you want science backed information.
Although these are good things to consider - I think it is also important that acne can also simply be caused by genetics. My Dad had very bad acne as a young adult, and so do I now. I'm a healthy person but at the end of the day - no amount of food or exercise can beat out my DNA haha. Seeing a dermatologist and getting a professional treatment will always be the best option in the end.
I've eliminated most of these (for stomach reasons) and still have really bad acne. eventually I'm not going to have anything to eat. kinda lost and not sure what to do other than just not eat. ever. I already don't have the best relationship with food because of my chronic stomach issues and my eating disorder
I saw an owner feeding his cattle donuts and little Debby cake. I ask him why and he said it fattens them up so he pocket extra profits. Greedy and very unhealthy then we wonder about our health. Those poor animals.
This video made me so sad that she's sensitive to like 100 things! I don't think her experience will relate to 90% of the people who watch it because she obviously has some extreme food sensitivities. But I 100% agree that food is medicine! I solved my migraine mystery by discovering what foods were triggering it. When I share this info with fellow migraine-sufferers I feel like they don't really believe me, like that sounds too easy
This is going to be an unpopular opinion. I admire your dedication to healthy eating habits and maintaining your lifestyle, however if you have to go your entire life scrutinizing every thing you put in your mouth how is that not a type of eating disorder. People need to discuss their acne problems with a dermatologist. In addition everyone on here suffering from acne has options of various medications. This is 2023, we have medicine and technology now. I had acne well into my 30s. Did one round of Accutane under strict supervision, was it scary! Yes, but the science is there and it's been a cure for acne since the 70s. Haven't had a single pimple in 4 years. Is this medication for everyone? Absolutely not, but it is an option. If the only thing you're allowed to eat is leafy greens and water then this is not the way either. I mean no disrespect just wanted to give a different perspective.
I agree. Food is important yes but the role our hormones play is undeniable. Some people eat junk yet are skinny and have perfect skin. Others practice "clean eating" and still have terrible skin. I suffered from cystic acne for 15 years before I was finally diagnosed with PCOS, started spironolactone and my acne disappeared in a matter of weeks. I'd tried giving up the typical acne-causing "culprits" like dairy but it had never worked. I'd rather not spend my life obsessing over every morsel I put in my mouth or cutting out entire food groups forever. Food isn't good or bad, it's our relationship with it that makes it so. Moderation is key in everything.
So in other words, you’d rather take the easy road to instant gratification (popping pills) than do the hard work and listen to your body? Food intolerances are real and healing comes from treating the ROOT cause. Not hiding the symptoms for short periods of time.
Inflammation of any kind isn't healthy. It also plays havoc with your immune system which leads to many issues including cystic acne. Whole Foods, clean eating and really paying attention to your body is preventative care. I am starting the year really focused on mind body and soul and inflammation issues and healing. Thank you Christine- your insights and advice are very appreciated. ☀️🦩🌴☺️🥰❤️😊
