I love heading home to Mayo and farming with my uncle on his '73 MF135. Brand new to your channel, apologies if my contribution is not useful, but you're absolutely correct that cows will always battle it out to establish a pecking order. After that, the fighting should stop unless a cow gets a set on one of the other cows in the yard. The way I have seen this solved most often is to use a ring feeder. Use and angle grinder and cut out every other bar so that the cow/calf doesn't get their head stuck at the wrong time (keeping the hold wider). Then when ye back in with a transport box of feed to fill, ye can keep an eye on them at the start and cut out any troublemakers. The reason this really works is that the bully can keep trying to put the other cow out... but with a ring feeder the cow has to keep circling and won't be able to eat all the feed herself before the other cows get in. Sounds simple, and it works -- my uncle is a smart. Very jealous of your MF135 starting no bother in the cold. I can't convince my uncle to use a trickle charger, and the tractor sits out years round... except the saving grace is that we use it twice a day, everyday. Please let me know if ye have anything special added to your 135 besides keeping it in the shed. Blankets over the engine during the night help with the cold winters, but not a guaranteed solution.
135 has a pre heat on the engine keep it in high or low and hold key in start position for 15 to 20 seconds before starting. Keep up the good work work
Tip for the OKO, use it before you get a puncture, always easier. If you jack the wheel off the floor and get the valve to 12 then when OKO is in, take the vehicle for a spin to run the OKO around the tyre ;-)
Never take the bullied cow out of pen - always the bully . Take out for week or two , put back in then shes the newbie and has lost her position at the top. Also have heard of pouring vinegar down the back and on the head of the bullied cow ( careful not to get in her eyes )
Usually we are lucky so far south because it don't hang about before thawing. Those animals are well looked after but sure thats the whole purpose of your farm. Well done & Keep 'er Lit.
Diagonal bars are a great job to stop them throwing the head into each other. It's worked well in the past. You can also separate the main trouble maker for 2 weeks to reinforce the position. It's a bit of work but you'll get sorted 👍👍
Maybe built a shelter shed 4 pole and roof iron in the corner of your paddock or look around for a old truck that has a box on the back and remove the box to the ground in a corner paddock there cheap to buy, just a tip or a thought, good video as always.
Well Karen, cattle all in few out, they like the silage, yea it is cold weather now , wrap up plenty clothes, A HOT whisky would warm u , at night, great video, kieran mcgroary from near Donegal town 😀 😄
Everything is harder in the winter!!! Karen, the diagonal bars will help a lot ! It shouldn't cost a lot just to install on that one section. Also it would ease your being bothered . I think the bars would help because I saw your Dad holding something between the cows that seemed to work. Also I am excited for you to get your loader !!! Please be careful Karen and God bless you and yours !!!! Eddy
Hi Karen we have a locking barrier in 1 pen there is 7 spaces in a column it might be handy for you if you put in silage and pull the lever and they can't bully each other while they eating . I use it for scanning and A.I and dosing and bollusing they get used of it very fast
Cheap automatic transmission fluid does a better job than expensive sealants and does not corrode the wheel rims. We have been using atf to seal tires for years. Be sure to buy the cheap off brand because it does not have the additives the expensive ones do. For the size tire in the video I would use 1 quart of atf. Actually one quart works for any tractor tire. Save the sealant bottle and hose to reuse with the atf. Or make your own hose with fish tank hose, etc.
Hi Karen before when we used to be mixing the incalf heifers and cows together we used to put apple cider vinegar on their backs and backsides they would never fight afterwards. That wouldn't do your bullying cows. The diagonal bar barriers should help with the bullying. They come ready made just to fit them. Or else maybe could you put a gate across the pen and give her about aquarter of it
Tell your boss at Aldi that those tire inflators would fly off the shelves here in Florida and in North Carolina. If they were here before, then they did fly off the shelves because I never saw them, lol. I think the yearlings were shying at the jacket. You had me laughing at the way they backed away from you, like you're an alien. You're doing a fine job too and you aren't a part time farmer. Most farmers have a job and farm too. Also help, which is your Dad and the rest of the family.
All Masseys have Thermostart - a Heater Plug located on the air inlet manifold. Turn the key to the 'heat' position for a bit, before starting the engine. Not good to start straight up from cold like that.
Saw your latest video cows in the snow!! What I didn't get was you being told, can't find the puncture, Wow!!! I'd be embarrassed to tell ya I don't know what I'm doing, that's what there basically saying, well done to you keep up the hard work
Hi Karen, great work with your animals evven though the snow looks nice but hard to work, my own place got completely flooded when it all melted and the rain down on top of it 80 acres under water , thank god all are in , looking forward to seeing your loader.
A fine shed of animals, that middle pen I'd be loading up and off to the mart prices are crazy at the moment anything over 550kg suckler breed making well over €3.50/kg, it would save on feed cost and silage usage and you could be able to divide up the cows also, one wrong thump on the bullied cow could loose her calf. Great Video Karen keep up the good work
Ur looking very festive over there and it's not even December. I think the diagonal bars will make a big difference for them. Hope it warms up for u soon, lovely video as usual. Cheers, Poth.
Hi Karen, About the bullying problem, the diagonal feed barriers are good job. But before I would go to that expense, I would be inclined to keep plenty of silage in front of them. I know that when they are cows and they are incalf that, you might not want to be feeding them up too much in case they put on too much condition before they calf, but I would definitely increase the amount of silage that you put in front of them. I think that would be a help towards the bullying.
We have a bar on the barrier that drops down to stop calves getting out and to eat the cows have to push the bar up and it’s heavy enough to stop them from bullying
Hello Karen ,It all normal cow stuf ,but i've seen many times that if a cow is sick or is not 100 %its natures way of keeping the herd strong 'and as for OKO I've been using it for years its excellent I've used it on my Motorcycle
Lovely video Karen , the snow looks good on ya ! Cattle look happy to be out in the snow . I miss the snow now that I live in south Texas it’s been alittle cooler lately it’s in the mid 40 f happy thanksgiving from USA stay warm young lady
Do you think a barrier would be better. I thought the bars u have in shed was a great job. I put one in this year for the store cattle and took out barrier.
If you’re going putting in a diagonal feeding barrier go the bit dearer and get a locking barrier you could use it then for AI’ing and dosing the cows it would be a great investment 👍🏻
Carrying two buckets of anything is hard labour. The Chinese solved it years ago with the Chinese carrying pole. Google it. Alternatively put the buckets into a where.
Bet there is office staff shivering going into the heated buildings, no such luxuries in the farming community. You need to be hard core out in hardy weather. No snow came here in the sunny south east. That's impressive with the 135 starting with no glow plug......shouldn't there meant to be?? Its awhile since I heard that expression....."I 'll get no good of it" 😃
I've the same Aldi tyre inflator 😄 It is super handy, but......If you use it for a large tyre the air gets hot, and so does the air line. Then it bursts 😕 Mine is on it's second air line. I was blowing up a van tyre (using the cigarette lighter plug adapter) so, advice is use it in short bursts then let it cool. ( The pump has a built in fan, it's fine. It's the hose/airline that doesn't like getting hot).
My father burned out my Michelin tyre inflator trying to pump the back wheel of a tractor. Left it on for nearly an hour. Turns out the tube was split. 😬

Fair point
What Krypton said worked for me. 10 days at least.
Never heard about the vinegar.

When you get the tractor and loader home make sure to buy a weight block for her
The tires might be leaking air from around the rims?
