    This is so awesome for my son to see black men teaching american music on the net.( other than DAD} My son( 13 years of age budding Bass player) understands our history and the horrible and evil conditions of slavery, slaves and descendants of slaves that invented, created and founded all american music including country. Sometimes he feels that there should be way more true masters
    who are black teaching american music because its a natural part of our DNA and no one else sounds or plays it like black human beings no matter how good whites or ethnicities sound they are still copycats. He feels that none blacks are taking credit and ownership as though they created it and are the masters. This coming from a 13 year old. We do not teach discrimination of any kind in our home. I have 4 sons (some grown) and all of them have had racist experiences with their non black school band directors. I've had to address these issues at their schools and obviously it changed each time because the teachers found out that i'm an educator and i played with the Basie and Ellington orchestra, author, producer with Maurice White(EWF) Etc...I'm not against anyone teaching american music. History should always accompany teaching even if its a short phrase so that the truth about the contributions of black human beings are well known and respected as common knowledge in all of our training and learning institutions and not simply brushed over. Trivia for your subscribers: Funk is a term that came from the Blues and so-called Jazz world and Milt Hinton and Charles Mingus and a host of others were slappin the bass long before the great Funketeer(genius) Larry Graham. Keep on Keeping on dear brother. great Job!!!!!!

    0:50... "we go way more in depth..." Have you got one that goes way less in depth for the special needs group? I was lost 2 minutes later.
    Seriously, great video, I nearly got something right. I was a bit thrown when you assumed that my being able to play a CMaj scale from 3rd fret A means I can find another C somewhere else on the fretboard (without counting).
    You're all too good, I need a bad bassist to explain it, especially modes.

    So for clarification, on bass guitar should I basically only play 7th chords?

    • @stephenhookings1985
      @stephenhookings1985 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I love what Jim Stinnerts says "theres no music police!". Play what sounds right. Low down the frequency difference in the notes is small so ringing notes beat - likely better to play 3rd an octave up (10th). But you hear later a 3rd played up the neck - to my ears it sounds good.

  • @vincentm3890
    @vincentm3890 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I enjoy your lesson but there needs to be specific clarification. These are all 7th chords. You were stating that they are major and ninor chords which may cause some confusion for the begginer. There is a diffrence between a C major chord and a C major 7th or a C dominant 7th. You need to state that these are 7th chords. In the beggining you dont. Id also leave out all the stuff about the modes as it only further confuses. Once they learn the modes later this will all make sense. Other than that thanks for the lesson the chord fingerings were all correct.
