I knew what was going to happen since I played some other Dynasty Warriors games, but I think the music for this game really connected with the story line.
That intro is so buttery I love it. Floats in and throws you into an emotional fog filled future with an injured, desperate yet still heroic Guan Yu trying to lead the way. As a lover of the man with the beautiful beard, I've always dreaded Fan Castle, but damn they always make incredible soundtracks.
“My son, you most stay alive. Live, and support your brother." “What are you talking about...?" “And give my lord and Zhang Fei a message for me. Tell them I'm sorry I broke my promise..."
I like to think of this from Guan Suo's perspective- A young, inexperienced boy that spent his whole life looking up to and respecting Guan Yu and finally getting to see his father in battle now has to protect his injured father through overwhelming odds as he realizes his father made a terrible miscalculation. All of a sudden, his wise and powerful father that once seemed invincible now has to depend on him. This theme captures that feeling of fear, desperation and the despair of seeing your hero fail so horribly. This was one of the best battles in the game.
@@kanalight2898 Guan Yu could've won when the rain flooded the city, but he didn't. He raided Wu's supplies and got captured and executed by Wu. Basically, he deserved it.
Guan Yu just had it coming, insuilted Sun Quan, underestimated Lu Xun and the Wu army and careless is his biggest mistake of his life. Because of it, the Shu when down too.
MrLongEagle Untrue. Sun Quan defied the basic Chinese honour, thus this man is eternally belittled through Chinese history. Guan Yu’s pride against the Shi Class (educated renowned families) caused Mi Fang’s discontent, yet Lu Meng’s backstab was strongly against the Chinese moral standards, even sun quan knew that.
@@joanofarc9793 what kind of drug are you on?? Basic Chinses honour???!!! Guan Yu insulted Quan's messenger and raided Wu supply depots not to mention beat up some of his officers due to his arrogance....get a grip..honour...pfff...working with a lowlife like Liu Bei should exempt anyone from any honour
@@joanofarc9793 Well, due to the activity of Lushu, Jinzhou's Governance (Jianglin) is borrowed by Shu from Wu after the death of Zhouyu. However, after stabbing Liuzhang in Chengdu, Shu refused to return it to Wu even after Wu had completed its promise and as an ally on the most important part of Yangtze river defence, Guanyu gave too much pressure and humiliation on Wu. So, after the death of Lushu, the radical serviceman Lumeng set off.
In any case, I love how koei is expanding their instrumental diversity. I like the slow and smooth sounding electric guitar accompanying the classic epic guitar riffs it usually has.
This song is so awesome and motivated me to keep fighting on even when close to death I didn't care I just wanted to aid guan yu . I love shu they're the best
, . This battle was depressing, espically when u know that Guan Yu's death was inevitable and how Guan Suo lost his brother and Father. Still great song :) ^
From Quan's perspective...he did the best thing for his Kingdom by ridding them of Guan Yu.... He was feared, either rightfully or being glorified, and that just created a thorn in the side of both Wei and Wu. That and Guan Yu's death in the end completely crippled Shu. Good job, Sun Quan, Lu Meng, Lu Xun, Xu Huang, etc etc. Dat strategy.
Kendall Fields in fact, Jin destroyed Wei and Wu was torn by domestic struggles for power. So technically Wei fell before Wu.Jin reigned supreme at the end.Sima Yi is the real victor.
The loss of Guan Yu hurt but LiuBei ignoring good strategies and attacking Wu in a blind rage getting a huge amount of talented officers and soldiers killed was what crippled them.
I agree on all accounts. Well, Gao Xiang was a very capable officer in the late Shu story, whatever orders he had from Zhuge Liang, he completed them without a hassle and he was very important in the whole Zhugeliang-woodenox-plan thing, he essentially made it succesfull so for late Shu purposes, if they would ever care to add a member to the cast, Gao Xiang would be instrumental.
Exactly, when they said they'd be introducing a few new characters for Shu, I was hoping for long-time veterans like Liao Hua or late Shu officers like Guan Xing, Zhang Bao and Gao Xiang but then, they decided to introduce entirely fictional characters for no real reason.
I remembered playing this battle with Guan Yu. I was thinking, "Fuck yeah, I made the flood happen and I took Fan Castle!" Then, the battle ended and the soldier started talking when this music played. I already knew something bad just happened.
It was cool hearing this again in Warriors Orochi 3 except the context was Ma Chao running to safety because the resistance army was surrounded by Cao Caos forces And that cutscene at the end where ma chao spares him because stopping the hydra is more important than taking revenge on the man that killed his family
@darktooth57 Sima Yi was behind Cao Cao's ranks to cause many great men to perish until his time came to seize power for himself eliminating the three kingdoms
@Sereniama I'm pretty sure Cao Cao had already resolved to accept that Guan Yu would not truly side with him. That persistent threat to Wei simply HAD to be eliminated.
Well, Ma Chao was rebelling against Cao Cao and Wang Yi's husband didn't want to give in to him when he raided the city.. It's not really killing her family in "cold blood" when they're trying to kill Ma Chao too.. Btw the same thing happened to his father and brother
Ha ha, this is good stuff, plain and simple, some nice, slow and chugging metal that somehow fits in with kicking serious ass while plodding along an awesome battlefield. Very 80's inspired and that's not a bad thing. I agree with anyone who says this would've been a good track to crank for the Wu Zhang Plains. Without a doubt it's an excellent piece of music.
Actually, Guan Yu insulted Sun Quan's envoy, and stole grain from Wu. So basically, like an idiot, he gave Sun Quan a proper reason to break their already uneasy alliance with Shu-Han and reclaim Jing.
They don't need to make seperate models, Sun Quan was supposedly old enough to fight at the time of Hu Lao gate in these games while when his father died in history, he was just a teen, Liao Hua in this series would be great! Together with Yu Jin, Yue Jin, Xun Yu, Sha Moke (imagine if they made him as he is described, a true menacing beast indeed!), Gao Xiang, Xu Sheng, Han Dang and Cheng Pu
it's called a leitmotif. DW7 ost is known for using Leitmotifs heavily. that's why they restricted it to only faction music in DW8; because it does get kinda repetitive at some point
@Sereniama Cao Cao had alot of respect for Guan Yu but he knew that Guan Yu had to die because he was not going to ever be loyal to him. Plus the position Guan Yu was holding was a very critical position.
Shu attacking Wu WAS justice, that WAS for virtue! What's more righteous than punishing villains? Just because Zhuge Liang had it out for Wei, doesn't change the fact that it was betrayal! Apparently he didn't even help Liu Bei plan his formation! Wu needed to be punished-and they lost Gan Ning, as well as Lu Meng at Fan Castle, but still!
I´ve been wondering for years why yue jin and yu jin haven´t been made playable, I mean they had all five dragon generals of shu playable way back in DW2!!!! same goes for cheng pu who served wu for like 60 years, was featured in all major battles, was respected by many wu officers, was proficient with his shooting star spear etc... why did you list gao xiang though? just curious
Shu was taken down by their own ruler who was played by some greedy eunuch greatly, the fact that Liu Shan did not care one bit and he was getting played by Huang Hao might have made the difference
@Mysterbyg It was because Guan Yu, even though he is portrayed as a man of honor, sometimes would show disrespect to his fellow officers and one day Mi Fang had enough......
@Mysterbyg Shu did steal Jing off of Wu while Zhou Yu was dying and with Wu's position getting weaker they had to make a move, if they were still strong enough to stand then they wouldn't have needed Wei's help in killing Guan Yu. In any case for Wu it was strike now before it's too late because Shu would end up attacking Wu after Wei was gone anyway
It's not that hard to understand actually. You see the games portray what happened very well, but again it is all still Romanticized and some of it fictionalized to add the team's own perception into it, as well as making it quite fun and entertaining. Guan Yu was slayed by a coalition of Wu and Wei soldiers, but each playthrough in different kingdoms ads their little twist at that point. All that mattered was Guan Yu was killed, and the story goes on, to Jin.
@ThePnost84 Liao Hua must make it in, he's already there during the rebellion of yellow turbans and still there during the battl of Wu Zhang Plains...no comment about Guan Suo and Lady Bao, but i hope Yu Jin and Yue Jin will make it in the next installment...
This song is pretty cool. Definitely fitting for Shu. I like Wu's battle theme more though. This is still a great song though. GOD DAMN IT. I love Dyansty Warriors music.
@setiapratamadupi I highly doubt Zhou Cang will be in since he's just fictional, but then we have Bao Sanniang and Guan Suo which are both fictional, so...well, if there's no Liao Hua in 8, then maybe they're giving us Zhou Cang.

Why are people argueing about which kingdoms are better!?!? I love them all and apreciate all their accomplishments and achievements!
“My son, you most stay alive. Live, and support your brother."
“What are you talking about...?"
“And give my lord and Zhang Fei a message for me. Tell them I'm sorry I broke my promise..."
Then he knock guan suo in the river to assure his escape
Guan Yu: Support your brother
Guan Suo: Pings already dead and Xing isn’t even a playable character yet...why bother?
"Farewell my son.... I have always been proud of you..."
