It was a diatonic circle of fifths 7th chord progression in the key of A minor with a piccardy third
I definitely heard a major modulation, but it wasn’t at the end so it isn’t a picardy third

Dude, I'm an older viewer, a guitar player with interests wider than most guitarists, and I just wanted to say what a wonderful change this makes from a lot of the YT stuff I see. It's very nicely filmed and beautifully edited, and you're a very engaging presenter with a great sense of humour.
But how many people would slow their own video down so you can see they're faking it? (As one who's had to fake it on a few occasions, that little segment put a massive grin on my face, I can tell you.) I love that kind of no-bullshit approach. You have warmed my heart. Thank you.

Dude... as you're here... what do you think of the music of Frank Zappa? He's featured the marimba a lot, and some drummer friends have worked on The Black Page. Any thoughts? Also, has anyone tried adapting any Liget for tuned perc?
And that ENORMOUS rack of mallets in your intro makes me laugh every time I see it. I had no idea people even made anything that big, except as a custom job for a music store maybe. Love your stuff, dude.
Oooh I have played in Black Page! Xylophone part ;) I think Zappa's music is awesome and definitely set the bar for metric modulation. Did you mean Ligeti? There's a lot of Ligeti arrangements for marimba and vibraphone :)

Adam Tan Are you using Stevens (modified Musser) grip? If so, could you do sort of a tutorial with tips on that? I am beginning to learn about 4 mallet techniques and it would be cool to see you make a video about it. Thanks!

hey ,if anyone else needs to find out about try Jaffacter Instrument Builder Coach (should be on google have a look ) ? Ive heard some interesting things about it and my co-worker got cool success with it.
one thing ive kinda noticed is your perch isn't always extended and sometimes it slips back towards the rest of your fingers. I auditioned for the Bluecoats DBC and the number one thing they commented on people all weekend was the perch.
There are a few ideas for constructing a marimba
Attend a school or self-study with online lessons
Make sure you are fully committed to it before you begin

I've currently been playing percussion for 4 years, specifically marimba for 3 seasons, or about a year and a half. We have a winter percussion group during winter/spring, before marching band starts, which helps our skills stay up to date for the upcoming season. I will definitely try this cool warm-up, and hopefully show the second marimba how to play it too. I'm not cocky, but I know I'm gonna get first because I've had first for a year now, and no one else in the percussion who wants to play marimba is better than me. Our drum set player is pretty good at playing anything so he could probably beat me out if he tried, but the second marimba for a year wants to switch over to tenors or snare, and the possible second marimba player doesn't have as much experience as I do with playing marimba.

Yooo!!! If you work your way to seconds on both hands, the rotation in the fifths feel a lot better, and you can get better with fifths. You can do this for any exercise that calls for laterals. My teacher can even do it on the same note.
You should review some Rohema 1 snare drum sticks, also love the channel big fan

Hey Adam, do you think you'll ever do anything on concert snare drumming or timpani? I love the mallet stuff but I feel like you could expand to other parts of percussion a bit. Anyways, I love your stuff and keep it up!

Gunilla Lindquist you can but it would still be the same thing, just starting on the right then going left and back up. If you want to be able to use the muscles in any permutation then I would do either 1214341or 212343 (can flip the permutation to start on left or right). All of these combined (1214341, 2123432, and 1234321), and their inverted permutation should give all possibilities for triple laterals

Please do laterals at tiny intervals. I am playing Michael Burritt Four Movements for marimba and need help building those chops for those tiny laterals.
Also, Marimba ones don't have "Adam Bars" lol XD.

We have a warm-up very similar to this one, we just play the notes A, E, F, and A and going up we play sixteenth notes, but going down we do the sextuplets

Hey Adam Love your videos! I was wondering if you have any advice for adapting towards different marimba sizes? During auditions I found that its particularly hard to play on say a marimba one, when I've been practicing on a smaller octave marimba, my accuracy also tends to drop due to the larger spacing. Cheers!
Thank you for watching! This is a good question and it's why many competitions around the world allow you to choose your 'preferred' brand/type of marimba for performing. I think as long as you try to play as much as you can on the instrument that is going to be the one you perform on, you have the best chance of maximum accuracy. Alternatively, pick up a custom marimba mat that is the same size as the performance marimba to practice with at home :)
