Stewart Copeland is talking about his Rhythmatism concept in his House in London in 1985. Sorry, I had to cut out some music from this Video to get it on TH-cam.
32:54 "...playing Pop Music. Which is, in many aspects, the highest art form. Being able to communicate something that's interesting and unique but still understandable and meaningful to lots of people, as opposed to just a few intellectuals." WOOOOW!!!!!!!!!
Mr. Stewart Copeland was so low-key for this interview. I think the magical effects of his Rhythmatist sojourn were still sinking in. This was extremely enjoyable for me to watch. Thanks very much for posting.
From @20:15 to @21:10. One of the most impressive and hilarious arguments for sampling and computer assisted composition. This is in the top 10 of my favorite quotes ever, on the subject.
I had just learned about him and many other drummer recently Hes my favorite for sure And when he started to breakdance i was in disbelief he actually was dope.
Now before watching this, is anyone younger here that thought to themselves " Hey he's sampling sounds for music and making a song in a DAW!" Isn't that something new in technology that just came out not too long ago?" ... well you are thinking wrong about that one. What you are witnessing here in the 80's is the dawn of digital recording. It's the birth of what you are doing right now. Actually at the time in the video, producers were pretty much well into it by this time and just erupted into a main format of creating music even up to now as we know it.
As a drummer I found this movie fascinating. This could have been a Doctoral thesis. The beating heart rhythm and simply beating on a hollow tree have always appealed to me.
This man is extremely intelligent; first of all, he has a solid foundation as a drummer, and with THE POLICE, he invented some of the most exciting reggae/rock crossover & inventive drumming/percussion sound/rhythms. In the history of drummers, there is nobody like him and till date, he's simply amazing. Just listen to his latest collaboration : th-cam.com/video/HaeKc7hXSt8/w-d-xo.html
the rythm is very important in music... The source is music of - 10 000 years J.C and .Celtic about -1000 years J.C .. Threes= empty wood ; Stone Age and Heavy Age... The music is the source of humanity...
They actually did reunite in 1986 for a tour and reserved studio time for new recordings but Stewart broke his collarbone playing polo and nothing happened except for Don't Stand So Close To Me 86 and they fell out again
Copeland is not like any other musician, what a clever man! He was ahead of his time best drummer ever
@Vox Quod 😂😂👍🏻
Stewart is so much calmer in this video. He is normally a lot more wound up, and a little bit hyper. Love him!!!
20:44 I love Stewart for this single quote.
goddamn right.
There is cool, and then there is Copeland-cool….this guy is a true legend
Fascinating!! Stewart is so...
much more than a drummer!!!

WOOOOW!!!!!!!!!
I can't stop watching this again and again. Pure gold!
Thank you so much for sharing it.
Extremely well spoken! Funny watching him now. He’s more ADHD than now! Lol!

It's such a shame they never got together for Live Aid.

So Copeland was getting into this before Paul Simon and Graceland.
And before that Ginger Baker. 🙂
Love the old chessboard police poster from 78. Currently framed and on the wall in my hallway :)
Following Ginger Baker's footsteps.
Guys. Before Graceland from Paul Simon. Realize that!
yeah they got back together, 22 years later! some holiday lol
Thanks for this.Fantastic.
31:34 That break-dance shit always kills me LMAO
MrJohnnyfarragut i like that jump and twist in the air bit
I think he made them laugh at him here but with astonishment. 😄

Stewart a littlebit stoned hahahaha
17:29 Never swap your floppy disks, kids! Looool
Fascinating!
STEWART COPELAND GENIUS
Bien que lo encontré 👍👏
crazy now we got all these DAWs now
11:15 When the military grade Ganja kicks in :D
Genius
Trapped in a box (1992) by No Doubt sounds a lot like Don’t box me in (1985) !!!
Great Fairlight content.
I would pay money to see a conversation between Steward and Grateful Dead co- Drummer Mickey Hart.......both masters of The Rhythm!
Amazing
Those African tigers.. :)
I was giggling at that as well.
Oh god, yes, I heard it but didn’t reflect on it.😂
It looks like Ferris Bueller's room.
humans came out of Africa and the rhythm did too. God bless!!
The interviewer is Gaz Top!

un genio en la batería
Dammit, I am so jealous of you!
I actually have this album on vinyl.
Я люблю Стюарт Коупленд. Он лучший.
Little did Stewart know during this interview in 1985 that The Police would not reunite until 2007
teeshirts and beer
He had to go quad platinum with The Police so he could have the time and money to do Klark Kent, the highest musical achievement
IT IS FUNNY TO SEE THAT STEWART HAD PLANS FOR A NEW POLICE ALBUM.........WE KNOW DIFFERENTLY.
Stewart broke his collar bone when playing polo around that time.
@Clement Augustine Stewart broke his collarbone right before the sessions to work on new music. That delay proved fatal.
The Sacred Grove
The irony his comments at the end....Sting had already told them he didn't want to carry on, though stewart here seems to be ignoring that.
They actually did reunite in 1986 for a tour and reserved studio time for new recordings but Stewart broke his collarbone playing polo and nothing happened except for Don't Stand So Close To Me 86 and they fell out again

Man thank god he became a musician or else he just would have been a cop, no pun, like his old man. Totally has the personality type/mindset for it.
For being a cop? (His father was a jazz musician as well.)
he was still a cop. he was the drummer for The Police. haha. thats a bad joke
Imagine being pulled over for speeding by none other than The Rhythmatist himself
kyledrums : his father was not a cop. His father was in the CIA.
maxi floppy disk! ahahhaha
Lmao! The old black drummer was annoyed and thinking to himself this canoe chinned white boy think he's arrived 😆😂😆😂
Oh my gosh canoe chinned white boy 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. Funniest insult I heard in awhile. Laughing so hard.
I wouldn't mind going to Africa as a rich guy like him - otherwise I'd rather NOT go there..
Beyer DT 100’s far out...
I’m glad Stewart settled in Los Angeles and lost his British twang
I was just thinking the exact opposite 😬
He’s American. Born in Virginia. Dad was a CIA man.
