My parents are Buddhist. Our temple in China has a list of names that can be given to our children for generations to come. All that has been lost from my generation onward. The list of given names has been calculated generations before we were born.
Decades ago, my mother had gone to a person who could calculate the history of our life to come because the person calculate our life based on astronomy, mathematics and the weather condition, time, day of the week and date of our birth. She did that and all the things that the person stated during that session were all true for my parents and all of us. They are very specific events for all those that is thinking that all those things could happen to anybody. Believe me when I tell you that the things that the person stated were not common things that will happen to any family. I am sure that art is no longer in existence which makes me very sad.

The name you are given whether consciously or not, is a perfect fit just as the time and date of the birth, so even of a chosen name has certain characteristics , it has to blend with the frequency of the date.
As a numerologist for decades, I describe the birthdate number as the road you were born on , and the name being the sort of car you will be driving, so you can be born on a mountain track with the name equivalent to a formula1 racing car.

Einstein and Vedas also say it. Certain type of vibrations attract certain type of positive and negative energies. So names matter.Only a pure yogi like Sadhguru knows the importance of vibration.

Nowadays you will live with your daughters as well as your sons. SO call them both with dignity and importance. I understand what he says, but don’t buy it, sorry. The daughter is also born under the stars and planets with their positions as is the son. SO both are important and should thus be called with care. (I suppose that this realisation made it as it is now) sadly Sadghuru only stresses the fact that the son should be well called.
Not bashing/hating him he is a good man, and like his content. But I thought it would be nicer if he had stressed the importance of both. SO pls, don’t go tell me in the comments I’m a sadghuru-hater and all that nonsense.
I believe Sadghuru has no problem truly with critical questions as long as they are polite.

The name you are given whether consciously or not, is a perfect fit just as the time and date of the birth, so even when a chosen name has certain characteristics , it has to blend with the frequency of the birth date.
As a numerologist for decades, I describe the birthdate number as the road you were born on , and the name being the sort of car you will be driving, so you can be born on a mountain track with the name equivalent to a formula1 racing car.
You could call this your " carma" lol..

There is no right or wrong in numerology. Some people have essential obstacles on their path for their spiritual growth.
One characteristic in his case , is the powerful influence of his intuitive nature (the number of 2's in his birth date) is balanced by his name and birth numbers, being 6 and 9., more at the intellectual level.

But.....the names which people find the most auspicious are given due to the meaning we have given to that sound. They're words with meaning. They're not even just names with a deeper meaning. So unless I missed something then we are not naming according to reverberations, but rather due to human alloted meaning to that sound.
The explanation that males were given more ceremony and thought when naming because they were going to be around you till you leave this plane, makes zero sense. Again unless I missed something that is saying that females don't have any value to you/the family in the time she stays with you/the family. And then also has that "throw away" name discarded and given a new name, not according to her own being but rather to the male and his placement within the universe. To me this is contradictory to female energies and goddess worshipping, where the female is acknowledged and given respect.
I often hear how archaic patriarchal values and norms are disregarded as wrong by simply saying "Modern society is so far removed from any spirituality and understanding that, this great tradition and spirituality of what seems oppressive but we say is spiritual, they see this as oppressive, and that's why they can't see passed their own ego to see this as enlightenment".
    I just dont buy this.
Oddly I only see this angled used when trying to say let's keep practicing toxic patriarchy.
    Some things can change MOI.

      @shriyasridharamaiya9216 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Are you a feminist? :P
When you analyse something as negative from the start, you're already biased to what it actually is.
I think a few things were clearly missed/misinterpreted.
Regarding meanings and sounds, a lot of names considered "good" or "sacred" in ancient India had not just good meanings but also good reverberations, example, Shiva, Vishnu, Krishna etc.
Meaning is what we as humans gave it, for the existence as a whole, it's only the sound. And these sounds have a positive impact when you utter them, is what he meant.
Secondly, regarding toxic patriarchy, he clearly said, when things are done in an exploitative manner, resistance comes up, when they are conducted reasonably and respectfully, it is accepted.
He even says times have changed now.
Back then, they married off the girl as early as 10-12 years, so yes, naming the girl wasn't considered important, hence the family she married into gave her a new name, according to their family characteristics, as she spent most of her life there, which does make more sense because she doesn't call out her name, people around her do.
I'm sure here a part of it was unclear or unexplained, but I think they also considered the girl's horoscope for this purpose. Back then, there was a lot of importance given to kundli matching and marriage prospects. I'm sure this was considered too. Ancient Indian rituals, are afterall, extremely well thought out and thorough.
And like you said, in a land where we worship Goddesses, patriarchy is indeed unacceptable.
The ancient Indian culture did not discriminate against woman, it was all well thought of and for the good of the woman. It is the people who later changed it to make it exploitative.

@@shriyasridharamaiya9216 You start of asking whether I'm a feminist, as if feminism is a destructive agency, as toxic misogynistic patriarchy is. White feminism is toxic though, but that's another discussion.
If you believe that feminism is toxic I think you need to go back and look at what feminism is, how strong it has been as a role player in the world's revolutions, shaping of societies and in basic human rights for people. Im not sure if you're a woman, but if your name is an indication of your identity then you are a woman, thus you have greatly benefitted from feminism fought by women to ensure your rights. In India feminism played a massive role in breaking colonialism. Poolan Devi for one was one of the fiercest feminists ever to exist. The same with other incredible Indian women.
Thereafter you go on repeating what was said in the video. Now friend, I dont have a problem understanding what has been said in that manner; I can hear just fine.
Lastly you end of actually agreeing with what I wrote....Hmmm.
I think you have confused culture with spirituality. This is a common mistake. Spirituality does not oppress, other or otherwise differentiate in toxic ways. Culture on the other hand can do those things. Cultures are human made interpretations of a variety of things, including spirituality.

@@ts4686 @T S haha not bad, you did exactly what you accused me of doing :P
But anyway, I have to admit, "Are you a feminist?" - was a wrong question. The right question was "Are you a pseudo-feminist?" The one where people speak of equality but expect unfair bias in situations where it is convenient for them, and yes, that includes white feminism as well.
With actual feminism, of course, I don't have a problem. In fact, if my argument sounded so, I must justify, I'm one of those people who is strongly against misogyny and toxic patriarchy. But sometimes there's also a difference between these things and what the situation actually is. So understanding the difference is important - was my point.
Your comment clearly didn't seem like you understood what he said, but anyway, if you have, good for you :)
Though I don't think we agreed with each other in the end, if we had either you didn't understand me or I didn't understand you.
I haven't confused culture and spirituality. In fact, you misunderstood my point, again. I'm saying the culture you speak of was tainted and changed according to the conveniences of people. There was no mention of that linked to spirituality. But in any case, in our initial/original culture, they were not mutually exclusive. Over time, it just changed according to the conveniences of people and patriarchal minds. Then the difference you speak of exists, culture being different from spirituality.
The ancient Indian culture of conducting rituals for example, had a spiritual significance, women were allowed to conduct them also. Gradually that changed, women weren't allowed to do so later.
So you see, they're not mutually exclusive but they were made so, by the later generations of people.
