All the comments about Jenn's clothes are ridiculous. She is wearing a tank top and a maxi skirt. She is completely covered. The only thing showing is her arms. We need to get out of this religious mindset, we need to stop judging each other over petty things. If you struggle with being tempted, turn off your computer and go into your prayer closet and pray. During worship, your focus shouldn't be on the worship leader... you should be fixing your eyes on Jesus. If you are standing (or sitting) there staring at the person singing, you are missing the whole point of worship. Clothes your eyes, listen to the words and get over yourself.

As the worship leader at my church, I have some thoughts that I think my be beneficial to this conversation on Jenn's clothing choices. First of all, it is important to remember that Bethel church is located in California. Culture and modesty in California is significantly different than it is in the midwest or even on the East Coast. I am in a church in the midwest, and it would be incredibly inappropriate for me to wear a tank top on stage. As a leader I am responsible to God and to the congregation to lead the people and point them to Jesus. In Jenn's case, the culture where she lives is quite liberal in outward appearance. I'm not justifying anything, however, I think it is important to take into account various perspectives. Culture is huge. Just as men from India may look at Kari Jobe and be appalled at her clothes, we would hope that they would see the heart and take into account the difference in culture here in the United States. I think we ought to be careful to be equally considerate of other churches and the cultures they find themselves in. If the leadership at Bethel doesn't have a problem with how Jenn is dressed, I suggest we not take that burden upon ourselves either.

It is Nov. of 2020 and this was recored long go, yet is still doing the work of the Lord. It has enriched my morning worship time, and I am grateful for her willingness to use her talent in this way for our Savior. she is my preferred worship music leader because she so freely shows that the Holy Spirit dwells within her and is present with us when we worship. I think as a man whose in touch with the fact that men are very visually oriented it's impossible not to notice women. The issue is whether you linger, or look away.
I'm a woman and felt it was a distraction. Men are very visual. How bad would a t=shirt with short sleeves be? many ppl would not be distracted and would be focused on the Lord instead but making such a small change. God knows. He created us so I'm sure he said dress modestly for a reason. I'm not saying she's a bad person. Maybe she just doesn't realize how distracting it is. Being judgemental of others, and being judgemental of how another person worships is a symptom of a flawed human who has been seared by the world. We don't even recognise worship as worship anymore. They say “if you raise your hands,” you are distracting, if you "wear the wrong clothes," you're not respectful, or godly enough, "if you don't sing, dance or follow the crowd,” then you're not filled with the Holy Spirit. None of that is true. If you have an opinion of someone else and that opinion isn’t Loving, forgiving, positive, helpful, accepting, kind or from a place of servitude... Then your motivation doesn’t come from God. An atheist can go hiking in the mountains, stop to admire the view, shut their eyes, feel the wind and warmth on their face... and be thankful, in their heart, for the moment they are living in. That is worshiping God! It doesn't matter if you or I recognize it for what it truly is. That same atheist, on their own path and in their own time, with Gods grace and patience, can come to know Jesus 40 years later. You should be an example of God’s love and forgiveness along that person’s path in life. A friend. Chalange their view of Modern Christianity in a positive way. Don’t be a condemning asshole that enforces their pre-established prejudices pushing them further away from any form of organized religion. Treat everyone like brothers and sisters in Christ and maybe they will be some day. You should be so focused on God that the only time you look up from your Bible towards your neighbor is to love them, serve them, or help them.

Regarding the comment about her shirt. I believe that everyone is entitled of their opinions. I don't think God gets upset if I feel to be covered completely or be in a tank top. As long as our intentions are pure this is what God thinks about. Now with this I believe that God gives us wisdom as women to dress appropriately so we dont cause someone to fall due to in prudence. But to me jenn dresses comfortable does it with pure heart

I think as a man whose in touch with the fact that men are very visually oriented it's impossible not to notice women. The issue is whether you linger, or look away.
I'm a woman and felt it was a distraction. Men are very visual. How bad would a t=shirt with short sleeves be? many ppl would not be distracted and would be focused on the Lord instead but making such a small change. God knows. He created us so I'm sure he said dress modestly for a reason. I'm not saying she's a bad person. Maybe she just doesn't realize how distracting it is. I didn't know till someone told me nicely and explained why...

And besides sometimes short sleeved tshirts could also be a distraction..I mean think honestly if it's really hot then she could end up with huge sweat patches under her arms which I think would be both distracting for men and women and not only that but when you worship who actually looks hard at the worship leaders shouldnt our attention be on the Lord? Ps I say this with love and respect and Im considering men as I say this also :)

Being judgemental of others, and being judgemental of how another person worships is a symptom of a flawed human who has been seared by the world. We don't even recognise worship as worship anymore. They say “if you raise your hands,” you are distracting, if you "wear the wrong clothes," you're not respectful, or godly enough, "if you don't sing, dance or follow the crowd,” then you're not filled with the Holy Spirit. None of that is true. If you have an opinion of someone else and that opinion isn’t Loving, forgiving, positive, helpful, accepting, kind or from a place of servitude... Then your motivation doesn’t come from God.
An atheist can go hiking in the mountains, stop to admire the view, shut their eyes, feel the wind and warmth on their face... and be thankful, in their heart, for the moment they are living in. That is worshiping God! It doesn't matter if you or I recognize it for what it truly is. That same atheist, on their own path and in their own time, with Gods grace and patience, can come to know Jesus 40 years later.
You should be an example of God’s love and forgiveness along that person’s path in life. A friend. Chalange their view of Modern Christianity in a positive way. Don’t be a condemning asshole that enforces their pre-established prejudices pushing them further away from any form of organized religion. Treat everyone like brothers and sisters in Christ and maybe they will be some day.
You should be so focused on God that the only time you look up from your Bible towards your neighbor is to love them, serve them, or help them.
