This week we’re taking a look at a Space Jam vehicle from 1996:the Nerdluck’s Airship. The original retail price for this was around $25.
The outside of the ship is made out of teal plastic. The details nicely painted in several different colors.
One nice thing about this set is that it actually came with all 5 of the Nerdluck figures. These little guys range in height. I believe purchasing this ship was the only way to get the full set of them. The orange one is Pound, the green is Bang, the red is Nawt, the blue is Blanko, and of course, my favorite is the purple one, Bupkus.
The top hatch of the ship opens to reveal the command bridge with sticker details. The command bridge has 5 pegs for the Nerdlucks to latch onto and a nice feature is that each peg is labeled with the corresponding Nerdluck’s name.
It’s a tight fit, but all the Nerdlucks do fit inside the ship.
The ship has several action features. The first is a launchable scout pod. The pod hinges open to reveal a solitary peg for one Nerdluck to sit. The scout pod is launched by pressing a red button on the right side of the airship. Unlike the larger airship, the bottom of the pod has wheels.
The pod easily attaches back to the ship by connecting the silver piece of the pod to the back of the airship. The pod fits in between molded tabs on the interior sides of the airship so the pod will not fall out if the ship is rotated.
The second action feature of the airship is the asteroid defense missiles. These are located on the front of the ship and are launched by pressing the red buttons on the corresponding sides. The missiles are spring launched and like the scout pod, shoot a decent distance. Right now, one of them is now on the other side of this room. I better go get that.
In the future, we’ll take a closer look at the Space Jam Tune Squad action figures from this line and we’ll see why it’s a bad idea to challenge Nerdlucks to a basketball game.
