God I loved this game as a kid before I was 10. But being young and not aware of collectibles I was frustrated but got better... until I got to the slime boss. That laugh, every time it grew, I was like "what is this thing? It ain't no toy". Could not beat him until I was 15. Besides that loved this game. One of my top 10.
The spider boss always freaked me out as a child for many reasons: 1. It's a spider 2. It's a spider with a flame thrower 3. Those LIFELESS EYES LOOKING RIGHT AT YOU WHEN YOU TURN AROUND!!!!

I always found it amazing how Zurg,the prospector and the blacksmith are the only bosses in the game that are immune to laser attacks but vaunerable to spin attacks.
i have a theory that the reason they (including the jackhammer boss who can only be defeated with the disk launcher) are invullnerable is because a) they're actually real toys/tool who need actual damage to be harmed and a simple laser isn't gonna do much b) during his journey, buzz somehow still thinks he's a space ranger... that's why he sees so many zurgbots around the place, it's all PTSD kicking back in

The hardest for for me was the Blacksmith in Tarmac Trouble. He's easier to beat in Prospector Showdown because in the plane there's more room to outrun his mallet shock wave. But in Tarmac Trouble because he's on the top of a small platform with not a lot of space to run and in a hole that's hard to jump to the edge it's harder to avoid the mallet shock wave.
@@moatguy4471 At least, in ”Tarmac Trouble”, the arena and the camera are stable, and you only need to deal with 1 boss. It’s not too small of a platform, for me, either. Usually. Though, in the PS1-release that I own, the shockwaves don’t seem to travel as far, as in, say, the PC-release. Though, I must admit that getting on the edges, in a timely manner, can be difficult, though. 🤔

Oh gosh, the memories!!!! I remember getting so intimidated by some of these bosses as a little kid, and I needed my father's help in beating these guys (especially the Slime Boss). I remember a point when my bro and I were exploring Al's Toy Barn for the first time, and we got to that room where the Dinosaur Boss was. We were all like, "Oh, who's that cute little fella?" So we jumped down -- ONLY TO GET THE POP-UP THAT SAID WE HAD TO BEAT THIS BOSS! Then we both freaked out and bailed because we were both like, "Arrrrgggghhhhh, he's not friendly!!!!!" Ah, good times.... XD
My brother knew Zurg's fall in the movie was supposed to be a reference to Emperor Palpatine's fall, and we only played the N64 version of the game. 14:02 Really pushes it.
I have a pretty scary memory of that first robot mini-boss fight. If you leave the mini-boss arena without defeating it and go to the area above to collect Bo's sheep, it will actually follow you around below waiting for you to fall off.
The projectiles that went after you had such a short time. On the pc version I've played the time has been way longer. The spider booster, Zurg's green balls and the attack of the blacksmith were nearly impossible to evade.
Here are some strategy to beat those bosses: Tin robot: use green laser. Zurg kite: use green laser. Toy plane: use charged laser. Jackhammer: use disk launcher Clown: use green laser . Slime: shoot him until he shrink . Dinosaur: use green laser. Fake buzz: use green laser. Big robot: shoot it's yellow lamps then shoot the body. Spider: use green laser. Gunslinger: use green laser. Zurg: use spin attack. Prospector : use spin attack. Blacksmith: use spin attack. Last boss: use spin attack against all of them.
15:02-16:00 You're very good!!!! For me about 98% of the time The Blacksmith in Tarmac Trouble is the hardest boss in the game to defeat. Defeating him in Prospector Showdown is easier because you can outrun his blue mallet homing pound. In Tarmac Trouble it's almost impossible because of the steep wall in a small square shaped hole, so make sure you have full health if you want to defeat him without dying and make sure you have four or more lives before you start fighting him or else....GAME OVER!!!

OMG I can't even for the life of me complete that final level (3-bosses showdown) without DYING much less without taking damage! But having played this recently, I've been able to successfully defeat the following bosses without taking damage: the first robot, that creepy clown top boss, trash can slime monster, the dinosaur toy, that mother bird thing from Toy Barn Encounter, the gunslinger, Zurg, and the Prospector.
The gunslinger and blacksmith is interesting, in the final showdown I keep hearing a voice saying that is no way to treat a collectable. Who is saying that?
Same here. The 1st time around, I had no Disk Launcher, and didn’t even know it was a thing (I’m also not a native English-speaker); so, I thought he was invincible. I had no idea, how to fight him; which made him even scarier, for me. The 1st time I dealt damage to him, it was such a surreal feeling: I felt, like I was cheating, or breaking the laws of physics. Like, I actually did damage, to this guy 😮?! 😅
this game felt like what would be bloodborne in my childhood, dare i say i had more trouble beating this game (which i never did) than bloodborne (which i have beaten)

Also he, The Blacksmith, Emperor Zurg and the Prospector were the only bosses that required the Disc Launcher and the latter with the Spin Attack to beat since they are immune to Buzz's Laser so if you didn't get it well back down you go after that arduous climb until you can get it.

Well there are only five mandatory major bosses being the Biplane/Slime Monster/Mothership/Evil Emperor Zurg/The Tenacious Trio. The others are classed as Mini Bosses but might as well be the optional bosses of their stages since you have to go out of your way to find them. if you get the required tokens for unlocking the next stage you won't even need to fight them at all unless you're 100%ing the game which everyone will be doing anyway.
