Audi offended Sam with that laggy transmission like they stole his bike.
Someone did steal my bike 🤣🤣

Honda💪🏻👍🏻🏆!!!
@SamCarLegion who's the girl racing with Acura? Her voice is very familiar...lol...she's from Vancouver?😂
As a diehard honda head who drives a civic i was upset for the longest time that Honda never liked doing anything with V8s since i thought a v8 honda pickup truck would be the illest. But their acura side is where all the cake is and i can rest easy knowing i can get my hands on this super beautiful mdx but in a dark dark red very soon
Honda BF350
I'm genuinely shocked…and had no idea my vehicle was this quick.
Agreed! There’s also a drag race I saved the Type S beating the BMW X5
@@BJ-sb9rkI watched that one before this and am surprised with the Volvo
Man me too and that it overheated. I thought the Volvo would win since it has more power
AND!!! YOUR "MDX" IS "RELIABLE"!!!!!
@@BJ-sb9rk I would still buy the BMW X5. German premium cars are better than this Japanese wannabe luxury car 😂
Was the Audi in dynamic mode? I didn't hear him say that he chose it.
Every time the Type S shifts it sounds like its gulping a gallon of gas 😂😂😂. But its so nice!
So did my 2019 Honda Odyssey Elite. I loved flooring that van and hearing that 10 speed and VTECH. I always wanted to throw a Hondata tune on it just for fun but we only kept it a year.
You ain’t lying. The most abysmal fuel economy I’ve ever gotten. It’s really bad!!
I owned a 2007 MDX with the 3.7L 300HP engine and it was awful on fuel. It was published at 10.9L/100km highway and I never achieved 12L/100km even at 100kph. In the city, 16-18L/100km all day long on premium gas. Traded it for an Audi Q7 TDI, I still have it after 12 years, gets 7.5-8L/100km highway at 120kph consistently, and 9-10L/100km city.
Ive got one an Im averaging 20.7mpg over 2 years and 16k miles. If you are getting 16 with this car you are driving it way too aggressively.
@@TheChismFamilyif you're getting 20+, you're diving like an old lady. I'm getting 15-17. Some fun driving, mostly crappy commuting traffic. The fuel economy is absolutely abysmal.
Great review! I wish Acura produce the same or improved Hybrid trim for MDX Type S that it had on RLX Sport Hybrid, so it becomes more efficient and maybe even faster. In this case I 100% buy one. Yet it eats too much(
But it'll come at a significant weight penalty.
Great runs...shocked with results as well. Thats the thing with some hybrids, maintaining that power consistency. Even tougher with a dwindling battery. But Sam would be great to know the drive modes these cars are in. The MDXS have several and in sport + mode the transmission stays in D so you have to manually put it in S. But just would be good to know for sure the mode the runs are in.
LOL Sam is so funny when he loses I love when he says "COME ON" LOL
Honda! 😍. Power, indestructibility, pleasure. Just love and ride ❤.
Good morning, thanks for today's exciting breakfast video 👍
Good morning!
Honda just built such a very good engines in term of speed and drivability. I love this thing.
Getting ready for my 24 pilot exl
@CarSamLegion coukd you race the Acura MDX Type S against the Lexus RX500h F sport performance?
Yes Please!
I still think it'd be interesting to see he comparison to the standard 3.5 as well just for shits and giggles.
Great video as usual Sam. I am still waiting for you to drag race the mainstream 3 rows. Please ? 😊
Soon
The Acura 3.0V6T works well but it's a very thirsty engine. Even in the smaller and lighter TLX-S the fuel economy is abysmal.
I have one as well and it’s so bad on gas and the transmission is very jerky
Tlx type s does not get bad mileage in comfort or normal. Cant say its bad if your in type s or sport the whole time 😅
@@Sandezras From what owners report, I don't think it matters much. They are thirsty no matter which mode you drive in. It's just not a very efficient V6.
Achieving good gas mileage is as much on the owner as it is on the car. So many factors are attributed to your gas mileage. If you really want to squeak out every ounce of mpg for the car u have to do the things necessary to achieve that goal just like anything else in life. Maybe you don’t know what actually helps but here’s a short list of things u can do to improve ur mpg. FYI I have a 23 tlx type s…Improve your oil : stop getting oil changes at the dealership, factory oil is made by Castrol and is a very low level “synthetic oil” liqui moly molygen oil only in my car, swapped out on mine every 2500 miles ( u do what u want)….fuel cleaners (liqui moly, Seafoam, Lucas) often. Upgrade the ground wires on ur car!! This is a must, follow Acura_mechanic on ig he sells upgraded copper ground for all makes but focuses on Acuras. This was a benefit to my car. Swap out ur stock air filter for k&n high flow engine air filter or prl stage 1 intake system. Tires! Make sure ur tire pressure is 5 pounds OVER whatever is on ur door jam. Stiffer tires will improve ur mpg at the expense of feeling the bumps a bit more. Lastly weight, if u have a big family and ur carrying tons of stuff in ur car I mean what do u expect, especially without doing the things I mentioned above. The heavier the load….u get it…it’s not a hybrid, it’s not a normal car, it’s a performance car. Don’t buy performance cars if ur gonna cry about mpg lol
I have a 21 TLX-S and can confirm MPGs are terrible regardless of the mode. I live in a city so it’s stop and go everyday. I think for those who primarily do highway driving, mileage should be better.
LOL. theres a reason Honda is known as the best engine maker in the world
In china there’s a saying, you buy a Honda engine and you get the car for free. The engine is that good.
They are...? By who?
They all suffer from horrible oil dilution and poorly designed cooling systems.
@@boost331 there will always be that guy. None of the car reviewers mention anything about bad cooling in Honda cars or Bikes! Oil dilution, do you own a vehicle that suffers from it? I believe they had them recalled correct?
@@boost331 im an auto technician, generally honda engines are very reliable. I have no idea what youre talking about. Honda is up there with toyota in terms of reliability, def one of the more reliable cars

From watching your volvo xc60 recharge vs rx500h fsp and the RX did a 1/4 mile point 2 seconds quicker than the mdx......... would like to see a comparison of the two Japanese mid sized crossovers pls🙏🙏🙏
1/4 mile times from Car & Driver...
MDX Type S: 14.0 sec @101mph (and 14.1 sec @100mph on another test)
RX500h FSP: 14.2 sec @97mph
Surprising Results: Thanks for the testing. I will be glad to see Acura add a mild Hybrid for more low end and high end power. Of course better Gas mileage would be Exciting and make the Power Train Economical and more relevant.
Sam, since you mentioned the XC90 T8 battery was drained, how much power did it actually make for the drag race (It's about 316 hp in the T6)? Could that explain why it was so sluggish compared to its last appearance?
It’s not a fair comparison. There’s videos with GPS draggy
Acura is around 5.5 to 60 and XC90 around 5.2. From a dig the Volvo should have an advantage.
This video is super bias.
The T8 never depletes its battery fully; it won't let the driver do that. It has a petrol-powered generator which it runs to supply normal levels of power to the battery. So you get REALLY bad fuel consumption but power to all wheels is always maintained (in Power mode, this is).
In Pure mode it's rear-wheel (electric) drive only. In Hybrid it'll switch between all wheels as needed, using electric as needed until "depleted" and then will just use fuel.
Only Power mode activates the generator when the battery indicates depleted to the driver; it always provides the 400+ horse power and just drinks fuel to achieve it.
Would appreciate it if you included text of which car the cameras perspective is from
I love love the color of MDX type S. When I went to pick up my other car, I saw the color...but limited edition, wait in line for 1 year people lol...lovely car!
How accurate are these fuel tests? Literally another video got 21.5 mpg for the Type S Acura
Honda reliability… 10 years from now the Acura will be going with over 100,000 miles and will still be able to do a drag race without having a check engine light on love my Honda. Hate the fact that they still use a timing belt on their engines.
Also ten yrs from now, it will be peeing oil all over the garage floor. Ask how I know ('12 TSX in my garage right now, daughters car).
Get some Honda bond it will fix it right up
So that's why our friends mdx had to change their transition after 50k km??

What driving mode was the Volvo set to? Performance or normal driving?
Performance
Damn… I didn’t think the Acura would win pretty much all the races
That Transmission is 🔥🔥🔥
very understated comment but FACTS!!
Try the aviator hybrid. On paper it’s supposed to be faster than the ford explorer st.
I just love Acura ❤️
Acura has JDM power and its amazing ❤
Was the Audi in Dynamic mode or regular comfort mode they drive differently and the throttle reacts differently
Why would we race in comfort mode?
Different day- different results
Sam, did you think about ensuring the battery in the XC90 is charged? Each run the Volvo is slower because of battery depletion... You should do the test with battery topped.
In a hybrid system, the power of two motors does not add up). The T8 has a combined capacity of 407 forces
2023 it’s upgraded. Battery is now 18kw and fuel tank is increased to 71L, 50hp was added too.
Is anyone surprised the Volvo broke down? It looks nice though. This is why I bought the Type S. It’s a great SUv. And super comfortable
The powertrain needed to cool down it didn't break down
Nothing is as comfortable as a Volvo XC90 for under £100k ($126k). Best seats on the market in their segment and several segments above.
The Volvo has the best seats for sure if you opt for the top seat option. But the suspension is not. I’ve driven both and as Savagegeese said, the Acura rides way better than the XC90.
@gratd981 and the ELS audio system doesn't even hold a candle to the H/K or bowers and wilkins audio system.. some people prefer a firm ride as well. It all boils down to preference on ride without the air suspension
@@christopherrmcg the ELS absolutely trumps H/K. Ask me how I know, coming from my BMW... The air suspension is dreamy. I wouldn't buy another vehicle without it.
Something is wrong with the newer model XC90 T8, mine was the 18 model with 407hp and doing pretty good against some fast sports car, evidence in my channel.
The TCS if cutting too much power, off it and you will see at least a 15% power difference.
How do you compare a heavy car with less horsepower (Q7 )Vs a light car with more power (Acura) ???? isn't it obvious??? This would have been interesting if you find cars with almost similar hosepower and roughly same weight
The Acuras big assed badge is not in scale atall!
Thats what happens when company’s have a small engine maxed out from stock. A 4 cylinder engines 2.0L pulling a 3 thousand pound car😂 they lost their mind.
Don’t doubt the Acura, it’s quick!
Man! Another great win for Acura Power!💪🏿😎. I thought for sure that the Volvo would win. It boils down to the transmission..That was a good race. Sam, The Acura NSX Type S vs Audi R8 V-10 vs McLaren 720s

Why present the stats if they are not level or comparable. I am no Acura fan but at least charge the car before recording... WOW
The Acura has extremely short gearing it's like in 3rd even before the first 100 meters
The Volvo kept up with the MDX better then the Audi did
Acura TOP💪🦾
Don’t think the Audi was ever n sport mode
MDX fast ashit
Honda high rev is music to my ears but, I would be in hook n sinker for a hybrid MDX!!
I would like to see the type s vs ford raptor
1st love your videos 😊
You rock!
Charge the volvo! Knowing nothing
Should probably get the X5 xDrive40i into the mix. Even in base trim, I'm betting it's the quickest of the segment, albeit not a 7 pax. And XC90's issues are exactly what makes something like an MDX Type S desirable.
I cross shopped the X5. No air suspension, massaging seats, all the creature comforts, etc unless you're getting an M50i- then it's $30k more than the type s. It's not the same.
I don’t believe for one second that any Acura is faster than an Audi.. doesn’t make sense
Seeing these comments makes me happy to be an Acura fan in these late days . Make me smile every time and every car purchase
They have similar power outputs and the Acura has 2 extra ratio's and less weight. It was only pulling by about a car in the 1/4 mile. From behind the wheel you wouldn't even be able to tell the difference between them in terms of acceleration, and the Audi is far more refined and beautiful inside. So shhhhh, be at peace, friend lol.
@@mholmes9262 well explained. The Japanese (Acura)have nipped at the one of the big 3 is what is looks like to me. For better affect an Audi customers sheer ironic shock by the brand is so satisfying lol
@@The3358151l In terms of looks and dynamic qualities, it's a good effort by Acura, aside from the thirsty engine that drinks like a V8.
It just goes to show you... Audi didn't try to make the q7 fast, but still didn't make it pathetically slow like the MDX base. There's a sport SQ7 that will look better and smoke the MDX type S... by quite some margins(500HP V8)
That Volvo also needs to be in power -driving mode so it doesn't try to guess if you really want to go or not when you stomp the pedal. Volvo has also lost its supercharger - T8 recharge is not twin charged, it has only turbocharger in its engine and more power on the hybrid. Does Volvos hybrid system still cut off somewhere after 130kph/80mph? The older twin charged T8 pulls happily well beyond 200kph/125mph. Havent checked how the torque figures of the old and new petrol engines compare.
I knew the Volvo would have issues…..lol
🥶🥶🥶
Well its...chinese.
It needed to cool down, not really an issue
Audi needs too make the q7 a touch more sporty in design
Definitely
Yes, they could call it the SQ7.
Audi does make a sport version of this suv… this is not it… I’m not sure why so much stress on speed/sportiness with these vehicles
Listen to that engine? Isn’t it more like that exhaust ?
Did you guys scan the Volvo and see what was the fault?
We aren’t allowed to use any sort of machine. After I got home, car went back to normal
There is always something wrong or out of whack in these videos. I like that they made them but damn
Acura should win..it has much more power and is lighter too
Against that xc90 though….that was shocking
I’m an Acura fan, but I’m not sure this win against XC90 was legit. Either Sam forgot how to drive or something was wrong with the Volvo.
He explained what happened lol@@jimc3007
@@jimc3007 pretty sure the volvo has problem, honda reliability is way ahead lol
The Acura had 20 more horsepower than the Audi but 100 less horsepower than the Volvo…..less torque than both of them. You bring what you got to the race and the Acura clearly won!!!

I think you should always start from a dig first. The roll races really put a strain on the engines. I hope you guys run the engines after each race and check fluids. That mdx s raced a few vehicles. Hope she changed all her fluids. Maintenance is kay
Can you explain how roll races strain the engines over the digs? I always assume a dig was worse for the car
@@BigDunker345💯
uhhh from a dig is far worse on the drivetrain than from a roll. Stop talking about cars, please.
Drag race between the Acura and the T8 it looks like the Volvo may not be producin full power. Maybe electric motor fault or engine in a limp mode... cuz 450hp compared to 372hp the t8 shouldn't lose
I doubt they would put these results out if it were limp mode.
Acura has only 352hp not 372hp.
Spoiler alert, the Q7 is faster from a dig and at the top end which should be obvious bc its tuned for autobahn, MDX is faster in between. Q7 also has the superior AWD system and is a better SUV for towing, comfort, etc. It does all this while being several hundred pounds heavier to boot. Good job Audi, looking forward to the new Q7
In the other race with the xc90 recharge,it beat the Kia ev9 and the Range Rover velar and the numbers of the Volvo were better. There is something wrong with this Volvo in this race.
What you did not expected as you choose the heavyest AND the less powerful from the trio? Of course audi will loose, because have more weight, less power, more transmission losses (is the ONLY one using real center diff) AND also seems you did NOT brake boost at launch in dragrace...
It only lost by a little. It's still the nicest of the bunch. These are big people movers, anyway. You don't buy cars like this to line up at stoplights, you just want enough power to get out of the way when you need to. All 3 are within pretty narrow margins of each other.
Explorer ST?
Was a good race. The Type S won there too.
The Volvo 0 to 60 is way too slow. I've seen 4.5 and 4.6. Are you racing in the power setting?
You've never seen those numbers, stop it
Why were you surprised by the MDX beating the Q7? It’s more powerful and lighter… I was surprised the Audi kept up as well as it did, especially considering how comfort-oriented non-sport Audis are these days.

Taking Volvo to a drag race is like taking a Knife to a gunfight. Volvo is not built to get you there on time. It's built to get you there safely.
Except for the racing versions
Was the Volvo battery charged?
Clearly that would have a big impact. Also why would it lose power? Volvo come on now ???
During my research- system saves close to 20% battery even though it says zero to give you full power.
Otherwise the car would be fwd
It will indeed save 20% in normal driving. Arriving to location at 0%, and then drag racing the car multiple times leads to the battery being depleted to a level where it needs to protect itself and therefore reduce the power. You can’t have it both ways - 20 % + unlimited electric motor power is impossible. The proof is in the times getting longer and longer.
It’s going to cost you a lot at the gas station for that MDX Type S(with premium gas plus low MPG), the car has great interior and exterior, and it has good luxury feel, but not having a hybrid is what really keeps me away from buying it.
They are horrible on gas. I'm not looking for a car like this right now but I wouldn't consider the MDX even if I was. It looks good but the fuel economy makes me wonder if the folks at Acura are expecting $2 gas again soon.
@@mholmes9262 it’s $3.5 per gallon in my area, it was $2 five years ago. Too bad, I think Acura did say that they won’t do anymore hybrids.

I don't think buying a quasi-performance/luxury SUV for $75K really care that much about gas prices. Most high-end "hybrids" (such as the NSX) are for the performance advantage or virtue signalling, not to save their owners money at the pump.
@@jec20721 NSX is obviously out of reach to many people, so buying NSX is definitely not try to save gas for those can actually afford, but MDX is still affordable for many people out there, at least a lot more affordable than NSX, Lexus TX does have hybrid max powertrain that’s actually get you 27 MPG compared to 17 MPG on MDX Type S, that’s 10 more MPG saving. TX even have plug in hybrid as well, assuming it’s under 80K which will get you federal tax credit. If you just drive short distance each day, you can just drive it in EV mode all the time. Regular MDX advance is only 65K, just add a regular hybrid for 2K more, and I will buy it for 67K, so it still cost less than Type S. I don’t a huge power increase on the hybrid. I’m glad Acura actually listened to people’s complaints about the touch pad, that’s why we are getting touch screen for the 2025 MDX, but still missing a hybrid.
You should have charged the battery on the Volvo and you would got a different result
