    I too, want to thank you for tutorial on use of this sewing machine. I was given a Singer 185 from 1960 from a good friend who received this machine as a wedding gift, back in 1960. You have done a great service to each of us out here in showing us how to set-up the Singer 185.

    Hey Beth! Great video. I just acquired a 185K from an estate sale. It needed a new belt so I just took it apart and fixed it. Cleaned it up and oiled it. She's purring like a kitten now. Love it! I look forward to each and every video you put out. You are so relaxing and I have learned "sew" much from you and I really do appreciate you.

      The sewing machine technician is a poo poo head ,,,that is fixable,, Remove the screw in the hand wheel lock wheel,, remove the lock wheel,,,remove motor belt. And Handwwheel. Do not remove the Motor,,,,slip the belt off,,,,Oil the arm shaft,,where the Hand Wheel fits,,,only sewing machine oil. ,,no cooking oil,or corn oil,,,install,,,hand wheel ,,,install the Motor Belt. Slip belt in motor pulley first,,,put on hand wheel. ,and turn towards you. Or loosen the motor set screw,,,do not remove,,,,,,, Put machine to stand on Face. Upright,,,,,screw it on. ,,now install the lock washer, In the two groves in the bushing. install the hand wheel lock,,,so. Hand wheel,,lock washer ,and The silver lock wheel is on. Install set screw,,,tighten,,,,to check. In proper position,,locking Wheel. Must move like half a inch, towards you,,,if not. Remove lock,,,change position of clutch washer. ,,,re install as above. To disengage move move lock wheel with set screw screwed in tight,,,loosen the Lock wheel,,will move towards you like half a inch,,,test bobbin winding. With needle bar not moving. If you cannot do it ,,send ticket. 🇨🇦🇨🇦. Will fix that in a jiffy,,,and a complete tune up for all the family. Good luck. Haaaaaa

    Thanks for the tutorial. I was given a K185 20+ years ago - Same model but in its own box / carry case. It sat in a cupboard until last month. I wish I'd seen your video a few weeks ago, however fortunately found a copy of the manual online it told me how to thread it. I've made a very basic dog coat. (It looks good from afar lol) I need practice and should've started with something with straight lines!. I'm looking at other projects to build confidence. Do you know any good books with basic sewing techniques or should I just keep warching YT? : - )

    • @bethshibleyquilts
      @bethshibleyquilts  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I can't recommend any specific books...but I'm sure they're out there! It seems YT has the advantage of SEEING how to do it. I've tried to learn knitting from books and have found that in person or videos have the been the best way for me to learn. Good luck and happy sewing!

    • @bethshibleyquilts

      I think bobbins can look different but be the same size depending on manufacturer.👌

  • @jasondean3332
    @jasondean3332 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Cool machine. So once the bobbin thread comes out, do they both go thru the foot or just the top thread ??? I’m watching so many videos and no one actually shows that part. I’m new so I have no clue. Thanks for the cool video.

    • @bethshibleyquilts
      @bethshibleyquilts  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jason - the top thread goes into the eye of the needle. The bobbin with thread is placed inside the machine. You turn the wheel...the needle goes down and “catches” the bobbin thread and pulls it up through the little hole. Now there’s thread on your needle and thread coming up through the bottom hole. You are NOW ready to sew.

    • @jasondean3332
      @jasondean3332 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      my sewing room I see now. Wow, one week of turning this and that taught me some things. I can actually stitch in a semi straight line now. (I’m using pink thread on top & white on bottom) On my zig zag stitch, there’s pink on the corners of the bobbin thread. How can I fix that??? The top and bottom of the fabric should be only one color right? No trace of pink on white and white on pink?? Thank you for replying. I really want to learn

    • @jasondean3332

    • @jasondean3332
      @jasondean3332 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      But then I won’t know if my stitches are correct. I thought I’m supposed to use 2 different colors so I can make adjustments. The when I’m happy with the stitch, I can put same color thread on.....

      Hi Rob. My machine is a K185. But not green or on a stand in its own box / case. I have a light switch I can turn on/off too. The sewing machine is on when it's plugged in, there was no other switch. So if it's not starting up, check fuse in the plug first and failing that there may be another issue. Hope you've sorted it by now.
