What a privilege to have access to Prince’s process in creating and crafting his music. It’s so interesting to hear the different instruments and lyrics that he tried out before deciding to take them out of the final version. It’s as close as we’ll ever get to seeing this genius at work. Even if you don’t like this early version (which I adore), I think there is always something about an artist’s process that one can admire and respect. Listening to this version now reminded me of how much I loved this song back in the day. There are so many different elements between this version and the album version that I could listen to them back to back…and probably will.
I’m done!!!!!…Babyyy Prince showed up and completely out it’s obvious he’s a musical genius hands down 💜💜💜 his falsetto is unmatchable and I get chills every time he hits it🎤🎤🎤 Prince was raw deal for this ”have you done this before….No💋 omg I love it!
Visiting Paisley Park in February this year was truly one of the highlights of my life. Knowing that I was in the the place where gems like this was created was amazing. Music will never be the same without a Prince release. I miss u man!!
The absolute greatest to ever make music! I miss u everyday Prince but am so grateful for your music!! This SDE release is such a gift!!!! 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💎💎💎💎⚪️⚪️⚪️💎💎💎💎💎💎
These vocals make me want to cry, they touch the soul, we miss you Prince, voice of an angel, soundtrack to millions of family reunions and BBQs, weddings, school parties and home listeners worldwide
Insatiable was recorded at Larrabee Studios as part of a multi-song session. One of the recording engineers, if not the only one that assisted Prince for the sessions shared a few great stories about the sessions and her experiences buying him acoustic guitars for him to use which he did on songs like Play and My Tree. I think he later used it on 7, but that's just a theory. He apparently loved the sound of the guitar very much and took it with him. The drum sound, and by extension the 'room', microphones, etc. definitely has a different kind of soundscape, quality to Prince's D&P era songs. IN this track even the use of somewhat default FM based drum machine (Frequency modulation synthesis as opposed to an analog drum machine like his trusty Linn Drum Computers, the LM-1 and LM-2). The choice of the Larrabee again, gave this kind of elegant, sophisticated quality to many of the Diamonds & Pearls tracks, others of which were recorded at Paisley Park Studios, which was tweaked just right to add even more of a magical shimmer to the sound. As if, the songs were diamonds and pearls... and a gift to a long lost love. Which bring me to the point that you have to then wonder if the songs from those sessions, that were left off the Graffiti Bridge late 90 'NPG' Maxi Single, such as My Tree, Play, Oobey Doop, Heaven Is Keeping Score, and A Positive Place (Eliminate The Negative) could BE considered as part of the Diamonds & Pearls era. There's obviously an overlap, and of course Insatiable was a chosen track for the album, so, it's just fun to consider as Prince was on to the next album project.
My theory is that tracks such as My Tree, are meant for a Graffiti Bridge Super Deluxe because of certain collaborators. In specifically My Tree Robin Power is in the song in which she was heavily involved in the band at the time. This is just a guess but I could be wrong since there are a few overlaps as you mentioned. Now I could be wrong and it could be a case of overlap. However, I do hope for a podcast to explain what this era meant to Prince and some of his closest collaborators at the time.
I love this song very much, and this is my first time hearing it. Prince Rogers Nelson is a musical genius, .and I legend. I love, and miss him so very much. This song is jamming! RIP Prince!🙏😪💜
what is also fascinating about Prince is how he places humor in unlikely places. In Insatiable, he gets "started" at 2:44 and is done by 2:49. LOL. This is a beautiful tender performance of a song about getting down in front of a camera. He was a tease. Writes a beautiful piece of music and sings in almost ethereal way, but you can't tell if he is completely serious at times. Love it. The best example of a guilty pleasure because there are certain people I would never listen to it in front of. At times, it kind of reminds me of International Lover which is super sexy but also a spoof of sexy songs...in the outtake of IL, you can hear him giggling at times. Such is life --at our most intimate, sometimes we are kind of silly. Prince can be silly one second and write lines like "I am insatiable and I just can not stop. Even if I wasn't thirsty, I would drink every drop" with wit and double entendre. he is like if Cole Porter wrote brilliant songs, could sing like a horny angel, and decided to write soft porn novels.
I remember my mom saying how funny he was when I was a kid, when he sang "The rain sounds so cool when it hits the barn roof, the horses wonder who you are..." on Raspberry Beret. My mom was always into lyrics, she inadvertently taught me to listen to them.
You can choose to be amused by the 5 minute duration, but IMO Prince isn't trying to be funny, quite the opposite; he's demonstrating the unbelievable intensity that this woman brings and how he just isn't able to control himself. A similar theme appears in I Love U In Me when he sings "No man in this world could ever hope to last, When my baby downshifts and starts pumpin' fast" It's both a huge compliment to his partner and also one of the many examples of Prince being so secure in his masculinity and sexuality that he's completely confident to admit to something that most men would think of as shameful or embarrassing.
Prince was a musical genius and to be able to play 25 different instruments to perfection is unheard of. And his vocal arrangements is just masterful. Only once in a lifetime talent.🙏🏾🩷🎼🔥🔥
Much as I'm a fan of Prince's rock and pop, there is no denying, his periodic ballads were his forte. When We're Dancing Close and slow, Do Me Baby, The Beautiful Ones, Adore, Scandalous, Insatiable, Shhh, The One, The Breakdown.
This is so cool!! Hearing this makes me feel like he never left. Releasing the never- before- heard stuff gives me that rush that he would always give me with every new song/album!💜💜💜 This mix makes me fall more in love with the song even more. Please keep 'em coming!💜💜💜💜💜💜
I thought that the Camille album was gonna be the next unreleased album but I just found out now it's gonna be the diamonds and pearls super edition with 30+ unreleased tracks including never before seen concert and so on just like the previous treatment with purple rain and 1999 and so on. What a treat for any true fan😊 If they keep this up throughout the years for the rest of his albums we will have heard all the vault stuff🙂 PRINCE FOREVER❤️
This is so stunning. So exquisite. I love hearing how a classic is formed and this is the perfect example of that. Makes me love Insatiable even more! It feels like Christmas right now!!! 💎⚪️💜
I love the scream he added at the end of the album version. Gives me goosebumps every time . The strings, cello, bass etc. he really knew how to bring his demos to life.
I had a poor quality of an early version of this song from years ago. The quality of this version is so much better. Studying this version is great in hearing what Prince decided to keep for the final version versus what he edited out or dubbed over in certain sections. I do love this longer version though. Such a great vibe. Such a classic Prince ballad. Thank you Prince for all of these blessing you gave us.
Oooh yes! See, this is what I like. I'm excited for this _Diamonds And Pearls_ deluxe edition. _Diamonds And Pearls, Come_ and _The Gold Experience_ are my favorite '90s LPs by Unc. Anyhow, this version is so doggon bomb. Unc was singin' his face off.
Where has EVERYONE Been???? Now that he's gone???? You've all poetic? Sentimental??? Creative in HIS HONOR???? DISGUSTING!!! AND I CAN STAND BY MY WORDS...YESSSSSS!!!! 💜💜💜
yes. I said the same thing. But sexy and kind of humorous at the same time. Also reminds me of When She Comes a bit (the outtake on Welcome 2 America). In that song when he sings "I wanna turn you 'round I want to hear those sounds. You know which sounds", I literally lost my breath for a second. and that was a 52 year old JW prince. Sensual as hell.

The original version is already a classic and then you get this extraordinary extended version from his vault. Such a true genius.
The album version is quiet storm radio. This is jamming at the jazz club under the red, blue, whatever light.
💯 % right this is 🔥
Prince's eternal and faithful fans will miss an update to his TH-cam page.
Thank you very much for these wonderful posts.
PRINCE 4EVER ! O(+> 💜
Much better than the release one. 7 years after he passed away, we can still receive pearls from him. You miss me Prince 💔
Yes it is with a nice slow and smooth rhythm and Prince’s voice🙏🏾🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I totally agree with you and talking about smooth 🙏🏾🩷🎼🔥🔥🔥🔥
Guess you're a native French speaker? Literal translation of 'tu me manques'?
This may have been a gift, the album, the title to a special someone in Prince's life, whom most didn't know was still in it.
I love this song very much, and this is my first time hearing it. Prince Rogers Nelson is a musical genius, .and I legend. I love, and miss him so very much. This song is jamming! RIP Prince!🙏😪💜
