Setup: A very simple early setup ... The Volcas are mixed on the Volca Mix which has an FX sent to the Echo/Delay pedal (so I can put delay just on the modular and or keys). The whole mix is routed through the Strymon BlueSky prior to a single stereo capture on the Zoom H6 (hiding behind the bluesky). - เพลง
Thank's Gary this was a so strong and inspiring video... this is a true example of that it's not about of what gear you have at your disposal that makes the performance but it's alla about the capacity of the user when dealing with the limits of the gear at disposal bringing even more creativity to these sessions ...you can really see the physical relation between you and all synthesizers during the performance ....like a violinist ... nothing compared to endless scrollings of VST sound libraries on 24 inches screens in DAWland...thumbs up and keep doing what you are doing because it's outstanding...
Wow thanks Thom - one of the most insightful comments on my channel! Totally agree that the more hands on and tactile you are with an instrument the more you can organically manipulate it. In fact it probably is the case like an acoustic instrument, it will just sit there silent without input - vs say much EDM, get a drum beat going and add a bleep every few bars, minimal input, sounds more machine than man? And as you say a DAW requires a lot more controller input and takes to reach similar results to knob per function mini synths ... also check out my latest from yesterday with a similar setup to this!
What @thombroom5515 said. Beautiful!
I'm glad the TH-cam algorithm finally hooked us up. This was brilliant.
Cheers GS - the YT algorithm has been a pain recently, although this piece does get into peoples feed a lot!!
yep, probably one of best volca videos on youtube
Thanks BT!
Agree completely
I like the future! The kids are alright.
I remember asking Starbucks in Canton Ohio if me and another guy could do a set... We wanted to show off our XP-80s MIDI sync capability and my new Boss Dr Sample... Which actually didn’t sync despite Boss being the same company as Roland. Starbucks confirmed, but when we showed up they changed their minds.
We had to run an extension cord from the Blockbuster Video across the parking lot to claim our rightful place on that slab of concrete. A deal’s a deal.
IWe’re all hacking away at this kernel of truth..spinning out on the joy and irreverance of life in the context of dread and profound loss. Anyway, thanks for putting in the work. Made me smile.
Cheers Vivaplex - such a profound comment, and indeed we are all trying to create 'a' truth through music
Using those itty bitty patch cables for live playing, is actually nuts. Very impressive stuff.
Yes live patching with them not great for my biggg hands!
Hats off, absolute mastery of the Volcas.
Many thanks Drakva
Beautiful! Finally a great example of the Modular being used to actually make music and not just to „experiment with“! 💪🏻
Much appreciated WM !!
jolie stand 👍 et bonne ambiance musicale 🎹👍😉
merci Spat!
What a journey... Well. I have to go back to reality now.
Love.
Cheers Med Be
A true performance. Holy shit. So much with so little.
appreciated Barnes
You mastered those machines my friend. Loved every minute of this video. Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it Ben!
Some of the best Volca work I’ve heard.
Thanks E-Con - appreciated
You’re a wizard, Gary.
By the way. Took me about 20 seconds in to subscribe. Amazing work. 👍
Thanks v much Brian!
Thanks for the sub! 20s must be a record :)
I watched this to see if the Volca Modular was the next toy of my dreams and yes, yes it is.
Many thanks Katrina - yes I love it for this type of live sequencing, but it can do soo much more. Enjoy
love that moment at 36 where you check if theres any coffee left
Yes a highlight for me too! - it shows how one can get immersed in a piece though :)
This is the last minutes of some dystopian future sci fi flick. They emerge from the rubble of the underground to see the sun for the first time...roll credits. Love this-great job!
Yes definitely rebirth'ness going on in parts of this, but mid sections it starts to disintigrate again! Cheers Jared
@@GaryHayes cheers right back-subscribed.
Very nice! Has the feel of Tangerine Dream's "Love on a Real Train" - which is always a good thing to feel of!
Thanks mate ... Yes, shame it was used in that movie :)
It reminds me a lot of Ricochet pt2 as well.
I love the warmth of Volcas even the FM- this is a sensitive piece that also goes joyfully off the rails.
Yes love my FM2 - so useful ... would have been nice in this piece, but the Keys shines here ...
@@GaryHayes I love the brightness of all Korg analog. I’m doing a little modular and I find a bunch of Volcas to be more symphonic. So with never take them out of my set.
Listening to this again after a few years......such an original piece, Gary. That Korg Modular blew me away.
Hey thanks for popping back AMS2382 - always welcome
Besides the sip of coffee, you made Really good noises!
Haha. Should have sampled that 😀
@@GaryHayes haha, I honestly bet _you_ could make that slurp sound cool
Inspiring! Thanks, Gary. I loved the horn-like instrument on the Keys.
Thanks for listening Matt - yes the brassy pad sound really makes the overall sound bigger for sure!
you give them life

Was going back and forth on the volcas, but now I know what they can do. Thank you... I'm definitely sold now. You use them well.
Happy to help Seth - they can be big, if you get 'detailed' with them, if that makes sense?
Wow... just I don't have words...
THanks WW

Glad you enjoyed it Mick - glad you were inspired too!
I could watch and listen for hours. Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it! Ax Grue - plenty more on my channel, hope you subscribe :)
Sounds great! This is what I love about the Volca's, you can sit at your dining table and make great sounding music with hardly any space needed and have fun in the process. Anyone that discards these as mere toys is a gobshite.
Totally agree, probably as much analog power in the little volca keys for example as the early commercial synths of the 1970s ...
Yep people forget how far technology has come. You can fit a ton of synth power in a tiny package now. The Volca Drum, Keys, Sample, FM, and Modular are all extremely powerful synths.
yeah, Gary---this is outstanding.
Hey thanks Johno - appreciate that!
Amazing stuff🙏🙏
cheers luis
precious!
Cheers Ivo!
Fantastique 👌😊☮
cheers SRF1
Great morning coffee vibe
Indeed, slurp :)
Awesome Jam!
Thanks for listening VRE!
Hey @Gary P Hayes, I just want to say thank you. The last six months were tough for me, I got sick and still am occupied with recovering. But your video, this piece of unearthly beautiful music gave me back something that got lost in the last months: my desire to make music. To fucking rock, like you did there. T H A N K Y O U !
Wow Daniel really appreciate that and glad I was able to help in some way - hope you recover totally and ready to roll! Cheers mate
@@GaryHayes Thanks Gary, cheers!
