Basically. You bat until you the ball hits the sticks. So in theory in a certain part of cricket, you can bat over 500 balls (deliveries). While bowling, the ball moves after it bounces as opposed to the ball moving in the air in baseball (funnily enough there was a cricket world cup that ended recently that was hosted in America and the West Indies). Home runs are sometimes called sixers but you just call it a 6. In cricket there are cutters (like baseball), in swingers and out swingers ,and potentially reverse swing but thats rarer to see, (like sliders I guess), normal deliveries (like 4 seam fastballs). And you can bowl where the ball doesnt hit the ground (called a full toss which is weirdly the easiest delivery to pitch). The quick bowlers can also pitch varieties like yorkers (where the ball lands near the batsmens feet). And theres spin deliveries (which are too hard to explain). Its easier to explain just watching a game.
@Jayfish. I tried to explain it but its longer to explain than Baseball and harder to learn than baseball as well. Id just say watch a game if you want to learn (especially short form games like The Hundred or The IPL to get hooked)
The brown strip on which you were palying is called as the "pitch". The 3 sticks behind you is known as "stumps". And the pitcher(here bowler) throws the ball , or when he is "bowling"(pitching in baseball) , if the ball hits the stumps , you are out. The white coloured curved wall in front of you, the rope that runs parallel to the wall is known as "boundary". If the ball goes over it directly , its called a "six" (runs), if the ball croses the boundary touching the ground then its called a "4". You can run between the pitch after hitting the ball to ground. The number of times you run back and fourth accounts for the same number of runs . There are in total 11 players in each team and only 10 wickets to play, which means if 10 of your players are out then it's game over for you I hope you understand
