I prefer So Hyang angelic voice above all like she sang 'the bridge over troubled water', 'arirang alone', and others. All 3 of them can belt beautifully but only So Hyang can sing the angelic voice so heavenly and made me cry. But hey, its up to your preference
It really isn't a competition if you ask me. It's more of a trio of magnificent singers who can sing their asses off. Each women offers something different when you listen to them. Monica has the most resonance, sound output, and can stay in fortissmo mode the longest without her voice tiring out is the mark of a true dramatic soprano. Sohyang has the most ease and her voice is so beautiful in color as well. Last, but certainly not least Vanessa. Her agility in the upper register is astounding, and the fact that she doesn't have the cleanest sound doesn't affect her at all since her type of music calls for her to be raspy here and there. It's a very textured voice, she can piercing, raspy, and she literally sounds like an electric guitar all in one.
I always thought the rasp was out of choice (adds distortion?) A "vocal guru" online once said that she does Aguilera better than Aguilera in that she controls this aspect. Without it, Vanessa's belts (past ~E5) are sonically confusing, and the audience doesn't quite know what she's doing. Chaka Khan handles it by keeping her middle extremely forward so the timbre isn't shockingly different

Do you know that SoHyang is a liroc soprano and that Monica is a dramatic soprano? If not, try to find the chaeacteirocs ofneaxh one. Just by definition you’ll know that Monica’s resonance is bigger. She sounded great in that clip, but I don't think that's her consistent belting tone as she tends to rasp a little uncontrollably at times. So even though I do think Vanessa *could* beat Sohyangs in terms of what their best vocals are, I don't think Vanessa would consistently beat Sohyangs tone in terms of their typical vocals.
Sohyang is a only lady who mastered both mixed and headvoice techniques here. Her belting quality is flawless and her headvoice is extended to A6. She has done many coloratura runs that most opera singers struggles with. She can sustain soprano C for more than 10 seconds with full head blast, simply amazing.
Monica and vanessa support better in the lower and middle chest along with besting Sohyang's resonance in the upper belts save for B5/C6 (only due to Sohyang having better ease because of her tessitura)
In her recent performances, Sohyang has improved. Her low and mid register sounds fuller. Better resonance on 4th octave even. To think she didn't stop improving in her 20 years of career.

Definitely agree with them as the new belting trinity. A Full Lyric, Dramatic and Falcon Soprano. Sohyang until C6 (except for F5) Vanessa until C6 as well (except for E5) Monica until G#5 (her Eb5 is so inaudible tbh) and her C6 (despite "lipped?") were my favorites!

Vanessa's mix is very heady but she retains her metallic timbre up to the top of her range with support. Monica's resonance is larger than any of these vocalists up to F#5/G5 considering her Dramatic Soprano voice. Over-all, they sure are the queens of upper belting. SOHYANG > VANESSA > MONICA.

Of course they each shine in different ways & in different parts of the scale due to their vocal fach...1st we have Sohyang who's bright Lyric Soprano voice shines the higher she ascends & her even mix/natural agility allows her to be impeccable when displaying legato phrases. 2nd we have Monica Naranjo who's Dramatic Soprano voice provides her with raw power which she's able to transform into pure resonance due to her masterful technique & projection. 3rd but not last we have Vanessa Amarosi... whose Falcon Soprano voice is as elastic as water running through a river...her heady mix complements her metallic vocal production & helps her with her insane vocal stamina. When the three singers have such a good technique, it becomes pretty much impossible to compare them purely by technique. So it all comes down to more subjective ways of judging then such as vocal tone, musicality and overall artistry. Because of this I personally prefer Monica Naranjo due to her vocal power and projection, but also because of the ability she has to change her vocal tone and color to suit the song and create art. But again, this is very subjective and really only serves to measure them as artists, not as vocalists seeing as they’re all extremely good and you can see none of them pushing their voice.
I wonder high Vanessa can truly belt because the C6 seemed so relaxed and effortless for her. All three are amazing, so I can't say which is the best, however, Vanessa appeals to me the most for her agility and her guitar-like quality in her belting range.
Because it's heady, so she can mix her voice higher if she knows how to. Same to Sohyang, because her tessitura is the highest in here but her voice always balanced mixed

Vanessa has a lot of potential there and I reckon with training she could bring her supported head voice up to an F6 or even G6. The other 2 have amazing voices, however Monica can not only hit high notes like C6 which I have seen live in concert but she can also hit very low notes which I doubt these other 2 singers can. Monica is considered one of the best voices in the world and definitely the best voice in the Spanish industry.
Richard Alexander Monica's overall technique falls short with the other two. Both Sohyang & Vanessa can support up to C6 in mixed voice while Monica loses it around G#5. Vanessa beats her in low notes by supporting down to E3 consistently(D3 & Eb3 inconsistently) while Sohyang beats her in headvoice by supporting up to E6 consistently(& still produce minimal strains up to A6). Even in mixed register, Monica doesn't have much to offer. All she can do is sustaining the notes while the other two didn't just simply sustain it, but also VERY acrobatic up there, showing up superior breath control. Monica has more resonance, power, sound output than them, but that's bcuz her natural dramatic fach, not bcuz better technique. Likewise, Sohyang & Vanessa is way more agile than her, another plus point. Vanessa can produce healthy rasp & stay phrasing for a long time while Sohyang has dynamic control, mixing control & placement control in her belts. Really, Monica can't compete with them overall technique-wise.
@@resurgingflame Monica’s C6 was as good and supported as a mixed C6 can be, especially for a dramatic fach, in fact, it carried more support than Vanessa’s. Also, while Sohyang and Vanessa are definitely more agile, this is only because of Monica’s dramatic voice whose agility is way harder to create. This doesn’t mean dramatic sopranos are not agile of course (a lot of bel canto dramatic sopranos like Maria Callas were extremely agile) but it is harder for them. Similarly, lighter sopranos tend to have a harder time developing good projection and resonance, again it is possible and many bel canto coloraturas in the past sounded amazingly powerful, but it is much harder and a contemporary singer will not have the need of developing Squillo anyways so it’s a bit useless to develope it. Finally, as for Sohyang’s head voice, while there is no doubt it is good, she (along with Vanessa and Monica) become quite thin in the final parts of the 5th octave and the 6th octave, so I disagree she can support E6 or A6. The maximum note she could support in head voice would maybe be D6 before her high larynx starts causing far too much tension, but with contemporary singers ranking their head voice is quite troublesome as they all tend to have an awfully undeveloped chest voice coordination, resulting in a weak sound lacking any color.

I tend to find high belters (past F5) annoying because the voice just seems to lose distinct color; SoHyang is one of the few that has color up there--although I find C6 is and up "belts" to be cancer--there's simply no color at that point
It should be prefaced that ALL 3 of these women are some of the best belters of all time, but I do think Sohyang is technically the MOST impressive, at least in this area of the voice. Her mix is the most even, balanced, relaxed, and resonant here and she also uses the least twang and head voice to hit these notes. She also has my favorite tone out of the bunch for sure, but that’s not really technically relevant. Still though, all 3 are extremely talented and technically skilled, both in general and in belting.

She's certainly great in that area, but for me, Sohyang starts having a more booming, resonant, and full projection as early as D5 when compared to Vanessa, as Vanessa gets very heady and twangy quite early...technically still great, but Sohyang maintains more weight and balance while still being very relaxed, which is arguably more technically impressive.

When the three singers have such a good technique, it becomes pretty much impossible to compare them purely by technique. So it all comes down to more subjective ways of judging then such as vocal tone, musicality and overall artistry. Because of this I personally prefer Monica Naranjo due to her vocal power and projection, but also because of the ability she has to change her vocal tone and color to suit the song and create art.
But again, this is very subjective and really only serves to measure them as artists, not as vocalists seeing as they’re all extremely good and you can see none of them pushing their voice.

I wonder high Vanessa can truly belt because the C6 seemed so relaxed and effortless for her.
All three are amazing, so I can't say which is the best, however, Vanessa appeals to me the most for her agility and her guitar-like quality in her belting range.
Her highest belt is an C#6 which was even supported, I feel like she could belt F6's if she forced them out lol
Because it's heady, so she can mix her voice higher if she knows how to. Same to Sohyang, because her tessitura is the highest in here but her voice always balanced mixed
@@asiastraineddogwillleaveyou The remarkable thing is Vanessa never had any formal vocal training, although she comes from a musical family which would explain why she has a great technique. I reckon with some formal training she could probably belt an E6, matching Rachelle Ferrell's highest belt. To be honest though I would rather see more of Vanessa's head voice as she has quite a good one at that, although not as good as Monica's or SoHyangs. Vanessa has a lot of potential there and I reckon with training she could bring her supported head voice up to an F6 or even G6. She already supports up to C6 in head voice and her highest note is an F6, which isn't even that tense. Btw I absolutely love your name, freaking hilarious and I totally get the reference.

It is true if we take into account the entire vocal range and all the qualities of a voice that of Monica is the best.
The other 2 have amazing voices, however Monica can not only hit high notes like C6 which I have seen live in concert but she can also hit very low notes which I doubt these other 2 singers can. Monica is considered one of the best voices in the world and definitely the best voice in the Spanish industry.

Richard Alexander Monica's overall technique falls short with the other two. Both Sohyang & Vanessa can support up to C6 in mixed voice while Monica loses it around G#5.
Vanessa beats her in low notes by supporting down to E3 consistently(D3 & Eb3 inconsistently) while Sohyang beats her in headvoice by supporting up to E6 consistently(& still produce minimal strains up to A6).
Even in mixed register, Monica doesn't have much to offer. All she can do is sustaining the notes while the other two didn't just simply sustain it, but also VERY acrobatic up there, showing up superior breath control.
Monica has more resonance, power, sound output than them, but that's bcuz her natural dramatic fach, not bcuz better technique. Likewise, Sohyang & Vanessa is way more agile than her, another plus point.
Vanessa can produce healthy rasp & stay phrasing for a long time while Sohyang has dynamic control, mixing control & placement control in her belts. Really, Monica can't compete with them overall technique-wise.
@@resurgingflame Monica’s C6 was as good and supported as a mixed C6 can be, especially for a dramatic fach, in fact, it carried more support than Vanessa’s. Also, while Sohyang and Vanessa are definitely more agile, this is only because of Monica’s dramatic voice whose agility is way harder to create. This doesn’t mean dramatic sopranos are not agile of course (a lot of bel canto dramatic sopranos like Maria Callas were extremely agile) but it is harder for them. Similarly, lighter sopranos tend to have a harder time developing good projection and resonance, again it is possible and many bel canto coloraturas in the past sounded amazingly powerful, but it is much harder and a contemporary singer will not have the need of developing Squillo anyways so it’s a bit useless to develope it.
Finally, as for Sohyang’s head voice, while there is no doubt it is good, she (along with Vanessa and Monica) become quite thin in the final parts of the 5th octave and the 6th octave, so I disagree she can support E6 or A6. The maximum note she could support in head voice would maybe be D6 before her high larynx starts causing far too much tension, but with contemporary singers ranking their head voice is quite troublesome as they all tend to have an awfully undeveloped chest voice coordination, resulting in a weak sound lacking any color.

I tend to find high belters (past F5) annoying because the voice just seems to lose distinct color; SoHyang is one of the few that has color up there--although I find C6 is and up "belts" to be cancer--there's simply no color at that point

It should be prefaced that ALL 3 of these women are some of the best belters of all time, but I do think Sohyang is technically the MOST impressive, at least in this area of the voice. Her mix is the most even, balanced, relaxed, and resonant here and she also uses the least twang and head voice to hit these notes. She also has my favorite tone out of the bunch for sure, but that’s not really technically relevant. Still though, all 3 are extremely talented and technically skilled, both in general and in belting.

@@badbada3003 idk if Vanessa really owns those. She's certainly great in that area, but for me, Sohyang starts having a more booming, resonant, and full projection as early as D5 when compared to Vanessa, as Vanessa gets very heady and twangy quite early...technically still great, but Sohyang maintains more weight and balance while still being very relaxed, which is arguably more technically impressive.

@@badbada3003 That’s a fair enough opinion. I just think Sohyang has the overall more resonant-sounding mix. Vanessa’s heady mix is still technically excellent and is certainly stylistically fitting, but showing the ability to add more weight and balance is also technically impressive.
