I've used the MyWeigh KD-7000 for 8 years, at least twice a week. I've changed the batteries 3 times during that period. They are perfect, very similar to the KD-8000 but without the baker's percentage button.
I've had my 8000 for years and I agree, they are the best scales out there. Even better is the lifetime warranty, my display packed up , sent em back and got a brand new one sent to me.
I have had the KD-8000 for 3 months and I really love it. I use it for bread baking, miscellaneous baking, and feeding my dogs. It gets a workout. I too took off the shield, but realized it potected the control panel from being squashed when I pickit up from its spot on my counter. I am thrilled to learn I can turn off the the auto off function! I've only had the scale shut down prematurely once; I usually just randomly press on the platform to keep it working if I'm not ready to add my next ingredient.
I hadn't thought about the buttons being inadvertently pressed without the shield, although I haven't had an issue yet. It's well worth turning the auto power off, off!
I've been using the KD-8000 Since June and I have to say that I love it. I like the turn-off after 5 minute function. That gives me plenty of time to measure what I want without it turning off as I'm in the process of adding an ingredient. It is very easy to keep clean and while it is bulky it is not heavy and is really easy to move around.
I’ve had the very same KD-8000 for 5 years and it still works flawlessly. If it ever dies, I’d buy another without hesitation. I bought it based on another TH-cam review back then. They’re very miserly on battery usage. In the time I’ve had it, I’ve replaced the batteries no more than three times. You can’t go wrong with this scale. I don’t bake bread without it. 👍. Yes, it’s a little bulky, but it is very sturdy and I’ve the cabinet space to stow it. Thanks for the honest review.
@@CulinaryExploration i programmed it to never shut off. I leave the backlight on. Granted, it’s used for perhaps 10 to 12 minutes per use and I use it at least 2 times a week, more during the holidays so not an exorbitant amount of use. I turned off the beep via the back switch, not sure if that makes a significant difference to battery life, I just found it rather annoying. As you know, the buttons give a good tactile response when pressed; a pretty good click. I also replace batteries after around 18 months in everything because they will eventually fail and leak, we’ve all seen that and have been after that mess with wet Q-tips. Also, I’ve never used the baker’s percentage, go figure. Maybe one day I’ll get curious and follow such a recipe 👍
I've had my KD-2000 for nearly 2 years. Still on original batteries and I love it. Not too big but (as far as I know) accurate. What is probably more important is they are reliable and repeatable. Would recommend.
I started with KD-6000's. When I needed more scales, they were no longer available, so I bought 6 KD-7000's. I've used them for my household use, as well as for baking classes. 10 years on, they are all still working wonderfully! The cover on the tare button on the KD-6000 cracked and became erratic after 12 or so years. I contacted MyWeigh and they replaced it under the lifetime warranty with no quibbles or hassles. The company seems to be as solid as the scales!
I think I’ve had this scale for about 6-7 years now. So long that I didn’t even remember it had a baker’s percentage function 😂. I Love this scale though. It has even been dropped on the floor and the sides separated a bit so I put it back together and taped it. After that the display screen is ever so slightly tilted, but this thing still keeps on working and accurately. It’s been a beast. My young adult baker son has bought several other scales to use when he moved out and has not been as happy with them as mine. His only complaint, and it’s mine too, is that the kd-8000 is a bit bulky and not very modern looking. I store mine in a drawer however when not in use so it’s not a huge deal for me. I still highly recommend this scale
I've been using the OXO 11lb. scale for many years, and I like that it's so compact and has a pull-out feature for the readout so a larger bowl doesn't get in the way of reading. I've never had to change the batteries. The KD-8000 looks great, but it's too big and bulky for me.
I also had the OXO for several years and loved it, but I gave it to my daughter when she moved out. Though the KD-8000 is taller and thus will not fit in the same space, the screen is easier to read. The back light stays on as long as I want it and the numerals are clearer. Because the platform is higher and the screen is angled, I hqve not had any interference from large bowls or anything else. I think the options to personalize its operations makes this far superior.
I bought this scale 2 months ago, based in part on your review. I bake bread 2-3 times weekly, a braided Challah every Friday, and I weigh my border collies' food twice daily. Still using the original batteries, although I have purchased some NiMH rechargeable batteries for future use. I turned off that annoying auto-off feature after the scale turned off right in the middle of weighing an ingredient. Other than that, I find this scale to be fast and accurate. The plastic body is lightweight making it easy to move around my kitchen, and to store away in a drawer. I bought it to replace a 25 year old Soehnle scale that looked neat but was slow, inaccurate, and constantly failed to lock in on the reading. I really like this KD-8000 scale. Thanks for your review and recommendation!
I have used these scales for about 4 years or so. For bread flour which tends to be in the kilo or two weight they are great, I tend to only use my regular kitchen scales for other baking e.g. cakes etc. I like the % feature especially for a new recipe, once I know that recipe then I dont use it again until I experiment again. Thank you for the tip of how to switch off the annoying beep which I must have inadvertently put on, I didn't know there was a secret switch! I agree that they are a bitof plastic feel and not heavy which for me is a bonus as I put them away after use as they tend to take up a bit of counter space which is at a premium in a domestic kitchen. For regular bakers I would also highly recommend them. Thank you for a great video. Ramon.
I've been using the OXO 11lb. scale for many years but it dropped on my counter this morning and it is spitting out numbers like a tweaker on crack now. I am considering the My Weigh, but I did order another OXO anyway because I have been so happy with it up until today. Might get the My Weigh as an alternate or a backup. I make a lot of sourdough and mix four 1.5 lb loaves at a time so I need a scale that I can put a 12 Qt. Cambro container on it and still be able to read the scale. That's why I like the pull-out scale feature of the OXO. Looks like the My Weigh would not be a problem for this large container as well.
Hi @CulinaryExploration - loved your thorough review of this scale! Thanks for all of the detailed information. I've been researching scales online for soapmaking purposes and had read a few reviews on the KD-8000, but your video helped push me off the fence and I'm definitely wanting to purchase this one. Can you please help recommend a good 5 kg calibration weight that can be purchased online and shipped to North America (Canadian viewer over here)? Or if anyone sees this comment and can help me out as well, I'd be greatful 😊 I've never purchased a calibration weight before and am not sure what to look out for, I just want to make sure it'll be accurate/reliable and not break the bank. Thanks!
Just the other day I was 1 mouse click away from ordering this but hesitated because of the same issues that bothered you, especially the plastic issue. I really like the idea of the read out panel cantilevering out from the body. I'm always trying to look under a large bowl to get the readout. You were spot on about the Challenger bake pan so I'm probably going to give this a go. Just thought I'd "weigh" in on this. Sorry. Terrible pun. Jerry from Fla.
Haha Jerry! I'm pleased you were pleased with the challenger pan. I'll be filming a video on everything I use that for soon. I don't think you'll be disappointed with this one Jerry

Seriously, I get where you're coming from about build quality. I HATE cheap tools and was thrilled to see Amazon Warehouse offering the Escali M-Series Digital Multifunctional Scale for $45 (since it normally retails for about $120 USD). But when I got it, the entire housing was plastic, even though it is sold as commercial use by restaurant supply stores here. Easy to see why the MyWeigh KD-8000 is in so many YT bakeries.
Looks good! And does it accurately weigh items under 1 gram? If so, what is smallest amount under 1 gm will it register ? thanks. Also I would love to have a feature where you can freeze the weight so you don't 4get it as you do a million things at once. I have this useful feature on my Temola thermometer.
It doesn't weigh in less than 1 gram increments. I use a mini scale for that. Do you mean that you'd like the scale to show the last weighed amount so you don't forget if you remove the bowl/ingredients?
If you lifted the sticky dough ball directly upwards it would have a good chance of detaching. I use a dough scraper and slide the dough off, that works perfectly and feels like a natural fluid motion. Hope it helps :)

They're all individual parts of the greater whole which is mathematicS - correctly abbreviated to maths.
And let's not get into 'gotten' - it seems to be the past tense of a past tense. 🤣🤣🤣
Probably best not to open that hornets nest, it's called English for a reason - feel free to speak American, that's fine. But the arbiter of what is correct English will always be the English - sorry if that's inconvenient for you :-)
