  • This amazing assortment of beautiful wading birds were concentrated on the outgoing tide this morning at Weedon Island Preserve. Some of the birds were moving their heads side to side underwater to scare and collect fish, some were raising a wing to flush a tasty morsel closer to their waiting gape and others were immobile, waiting for their prey to come within striking distance. Each of these birds has their own unique foraging strategy based on their beak/bill shape or other physical features such as neck and leg length which give them an advantage in locating and seizing prey. Come out to Weedon Island Preserve, bring your binoculars, and take some time watching our bountiful birds!
