- “Cold War Warriors” is the story of countless nuclear weapons workers at Sandia Corporation who worked in all aspects of Sandia’s above-ground, atmospheric and underground nuclear weapons field test operations from the dawn of the atomic age in 1945 to the cessation of testing in 1992. This historical documentary includes interviews with such notable figures as Glenn Fowler, Jack Howard, Wendell Weart, Leon Smith, Howard Austin, and Ben Benjamin.

Was privileged to have supported these magnificent period of history from 1964-2009. First dozen years hands on field support of almost all of the underground testing. Made friends with many of those scientists interviewed.Would not trade my working years with anyone. Fantastic people fantastic science and it has served us well. Bill Hyatt
Well Done! I had the pleasure of working with several of the Sandia engineers and technicians interviewed in the video. I participated in 14 Nuclear Weapons Effects Tests at NTS between 1965 and 1992 as a contractor for the AEC, ERDA, DOE and DOD. I worked for EG&G, Ken O'Brien & Associates, Computer Sciences Corp. and later as a fed with the Defense Nuclear Agency and the Dept. of Energy. I have the greatest respect for the Sandia personnel I worked with; they were the "Can Do Guys".
It's amazing how many people in the TH-cam comments section personally worked on this project. I had no idea so many 60-70 year olds were so invested in the comment section.
Nice job! I had the pleasure of knowing and working with many of the interviewees. Ben Benjamin was one of my first supervisors in field test.

Interesting movie and well put together. I also had the pleasure of working with many of these field testers for a few years near the end of nuclear testing as a member of the Sandia Arming and Firing department. I guess I worked on a half dozen or so "shots". Now that I'm nearing the end of my Sandia career and have gotten to do some very different and interesting projects, I think that the nuclear field tests were the ones that I think about most often. What I really miss is that lobster bisque at the steak house in Mercury!! :-)

Let's not forget that Sandia was not the only lab participating in testing. Nor should we forget the many individuals that gave their lives for this work by way of the multitude of illnesses and cancers caused by exposure during development and testing.
Are any of these individuals still living? My grandfather worked at Sandia from 1944 to 1970 and I would like to know more about the man. He was a radio engineer. Thanks!
