the company profit for year 2022-2023 was a whopping £31 MILLION, from a turnover of close on £155 miliion. 2021-2022 , pandemic year profit was close of 24 MILLION. Was any of that re invested ? absolutly not . Liquid cash in the bank at year end 2023 was a massive £63.6 million. Just 10% of that would go a long way to put right the Prince of Wales and Scarisbrick Hotels
This used to be a beautiful Hotel. It was very posh and only the wealthy could afford to stay there. There are other Southport Hotels that have gone the same way unfortunately because they have been taken over by large companies
I remember it being fairly posh but then Britannia took over, who also own the Scarisbrick Hotel, The Carlton Hotel and Pontins and within months all have all gone to pot. They haven’t invested a penny…. Your getter of in the Premier Inn or Travel lodge, seriously x
Only Brittania Hotels have cornered the market in doing this. THey made a fortune in the pandemic, fill the hotels with homeless refugees, and chargeing the government top rates
This was once the best hotel in Southport. Out of town football teams would stay here before playing other north west teams. In the 60’s, 70’s a suited and booted large chap would man the front door. His job was stop unsavoury visitor’s gaining entry!!!!
I stayed there last weekend. Never again. Receptions very helpful but unfortunately left something in the room and guest what it was taken by cleaners never to be seen again. They need to check out there housekeeping staff.
My sister got married in that hotel, also had her wedding reception there. The food was revolting and there was some sort of cheerleading competition going on, although they had not informed her that it would coincide with her wedding. There kids running all over and empty beer cans rolling around in the corridors. My mother's engagement ring was stolen from her room, as well. What a dump!!
Hi thanks for watching, both the POW and the Scarisbrick are owned by Britannia hotels, so I would imagine they are pretty much on par, maybe I also need to check it out sometime 😆
Back in the 60s it was a good hotel since then it went down hill & was neglected when I stayed there back in the 90s I caught a horrendous virus & was very sick I was Not treated well whilst staying there & because I threw up & messed the towels, on leaving they tried to make me pay for this to which I objected to, My Mother at the time said to reception that I must have eaten something that made me ill, but they got offened & were in deniel if that was the last hotel in Southport I'd sooner sleep under the stars than stay there it stinks to high heaven & I would Never ever stay or recommend it to it to anyone else no doubt this establishment should be demolished its had it's day.
Thank you for that brilliantly detailed and informative comment. I can at least say that ive shared a little of your pain with my own stay. At least we are letting people know what it’s really like right now, I hope you had better luck with other hotels!
Omg I got a fright at 19:26 you say what the then spin the camera around at those 2 fire extinguishers I thought they were 2 wee girls standing at the end of the corridor.
All Britannia hotels are like this one. The smell will be sour milk. I don't know why, but Britannia hotels seem to smell of sour milk in my experience. I guess if you need a cheap hotel, you get what you pay for.
Such a shame the hotel has been allowed to get so run down the furniture is grime the decor is depressing. We often went fof lunch there it was very nice down side was self service. Thank you for video like your hair very smart ❤
@@andrewemmerson botanical Gardens in southport have a museum it's been closed for at least 10 years that's full of ghosts you can hear them running and screaming its that bad most Haunted 👻 filmed there they put a video out and it's on TH-cam.
Here again Andrew? Are you obsessed with Southport ? ha I mentioned this hotel when I commented on your Waterfront experience, saying what it USED to be...horribly tired in the early 80's it looks like its in its death throes now It is too beautiful to knock down ,but should be rescued and turned into apartments PLEASE
someone should really drag the directors, Langsam and Ferrari around there properties, and ask straight questions, why do they expect their guests to put up with hostel conditions, why they use 2nd hand mixes of furniture, and tv's recycled from the rubbish tips.i suppose because one of the directors in in his 90's, and doesnt give a flying fig, as long as the bank account is healthy. which it is. there is , and has never been real re investment that the comapny has taken over over the years, picking up at bargain prices. this cmpany has reduced the Scarisbrisk Arms, royal clifton hotels to grubby , smeely doss house standards. managed to run Pontins also into the ground. Shame on you . and poor staff who have to put up with those conditions.
Some really good points there, I really hope they can turn this hotel around instead of just using a sticking plaster approach for repairs and maintenance!
If you pull the curtain over the TV, it's going to block the view of it, if you pull the curtain the other way (towards the window) the way it's supposed to go, I will bet you will be able to see the TV just fine. Utter rubbish trying to manipulate things in the room to be a problem when they are not.

It really does need proper investment and as you say they have the deep pockets to be able to do it, but the work being done is cheap.

Ah that’s interesting, I wish it was still like that today! 🥲

Sorry to hear that I think this is possibly the worst hotel in Southport 😱
Hahaha your review genuinely made me laugh 😂 this hotel needs A LOT of work, what a shame really… great video!🎉
It really does need work, glad you enjoyed the video though 😆
I Like this old hotel. I’ve stayed there a few times outside of school holidays.
I hope you didn’t have the same room I got 😬
I got the shinning vibes when I was there too it’s so spooky haha 😂
Thanks for watching 😆👍

Omg that’s really bad, at least I could show what it’s really like!
So cool you got to see where kubrick shot the shining!
😆 it definitely felt like I was there! 🫣
There used to be a concierge on the revolving doors at the entrance under a canopy...
The dance floor was sprung loaded.
Those were the days!
I remember him, I knew his daughters
Oh dear. It's definitely grim up north (west). 😮
It can be in places! 😩 hopefully a less grim one next time.
First viewing of your channel -- and very interesting it is , too . How does this hotel compare with the Scarisbrick down the road ?
Hi thanks for watching, both the POW and the Scarisbrick are owned by Britannia hotels, so I would imagine they are pretty much on par, maybe I also need to check it out sometime 😆
Ive stayed at the scarisbrick it wasnt bad very small dining room
What the hell is so difficult, in getting a plaster in to skim the walls at least. unbeleivable!
You would think
This used to be Southports premier hotel! [Britannia again!] I'm sure the only thing they are interested in is the land value!
That could be right 😬

Sounds like a good plan 😆

Yes such a shame it’s got so run down, at least the exterior is having work done, hopefully the rest of it will be improved soon!
More videos soon Please Andrew Xx
Oh love we go there all the time it's a great hotel for what you get for your money love the pow
It’s certainly a good price, just needs more work!
I liked it, I’ve stayed in worse… not sure about those pillows though.
😂 You wouldn't have liked it with smellavision

I was only half joking…..a bit like the TV 😆
I’m guessing mid week you paid under £50 for your stay so I’m very unsure why you are moaning? Long corridors are a sign of an old Victorian hotel!
It’s just a bad hotel.
