I remember this story. Initially, Red Auerbach wanted to coach Wilt Chamberlain, but he soon realized that Wilt had too much ego, was not too much of a team player, and did not have the work ethic compared to other players.
Who was racist ? Wilt kinda hated on or disrespected his own race a lot and usually supported people black communities didn’t.. and seemed to not support a lot of black movements.. that’s a big reason Kareem and him didn’t get along or that was a lot of reasons Kareem didn’t like wilt once he got older.. I love wilt as a player think his game and athleticism is tremendously underrated but didn’t respect some of his off court views/opinions
@@classicrockbeagle That '68 team lost Billy Cunningham for the playoffs which severely handicapped that Sixer squad. Otherwise, they would've won. An aging Baylor on that 69 team with a poor supporting cast other than West diminished that team as well.
Red traded for Russell in 1956 - Chamberlain became eligible in 1959. Do the Celtics hang on to Macauley and continue to lose while they wait for Chamberlain? Your conjecture makes no sense
Why couldn't they keep Russ & Wilt? Wilt in the middle, Russ at the 4? They'd just won their 2nd title in 3 yrs by 59... That seems more like a Red type of move than either passing on Russ or trading him tbh
The nba would not bring in any viewers it would be BOSTON CELTICS champions every year for like 15 year straight and they already won 11 without wilt so imagine
In that Scenario Celtics had a 2nd Option too. Trade Tom Heinsohn and make Wilt the PF. Wilt had the shot of a PF, plus rebounding and inside scoring. He had every tool and ability a PF needs. They would have won 13 Finals.

There's no I in team...But there is an I in WIN "
Bullshit!!!!!! Wilt denied to play for them
1:50 This is actually a true story? Everyone simply blurts this out without context.
wow interesting story
THEY WERE RACIST AND HATED WILT BECAUSE OF HIS CONFIDENCE. AND DESIRE TO BE HIS OWN PERSON. HE WAS A WINNER..THE GOAT OF MANY ERAS

But not the GOAT of the 60's - that would be William Felton Russell. Chamberlain had the better team in 1968 and 69 and still lost
Definitely not Red Aurbach

It would be a perfect " twin towers " : PF: Russell, C: Wilt !
There’s no point of an NBA if they were on the same team dude

I didn't even think about that. They would have been the ultimate twin towers!
Russell and wilt would've been a dominant duo
@@tj5180the nba would get no traction the Goliath vs Russell brought people to the stands and to tune in
